A Lesson I Learnt About Money - True Story.

Hi Warriors,

Being an internet marketer, the focus is always about making sales and cramming money into your PayPal account. I used to think that money bought happiness... and thought that only rich people said that money didn't buy happiness. Recently, I learnt that I was wrong.

I live in Singapore and it's been voted the most expensive city in the world. My cousin, girlfriends and I decided to have a night out at a local bar. One small bottle of beer set us back by $25 each. This left us with a bad taste in our mouth. The total bill by the end of the night was about $300.

We left the bar in disgust and headed to the car. The designated driver for the night was in a relatively good mood since he hadn't touched a single drink. When he got to his car, there was a parking notice on his windshield for $70. This was at a spot where people usually park and the fine was really uncalled for since it was 3am.

We went back home angry, irritated and utterly disgusted with the state of things in our country.

3 weeks later, the same group of us took a trip to Kuala Lumpur (the capital of our neighbour country). This time we spent 2 nights at the bars and bought 4 times more alcohol than we did back home. The amount we spent was about $250. Less than what we paid back home.

However, we got much more than we paid for, the service was better, parking wasn't even an issue... It was just great.

The amount of money spent was about the same... but the experience was not. We were HAPPY and light-hearted.

When I pondered about this on the way back home, I realized that it doesnt matter how much you earn, if you're a millionaire or just a thousandnaire.

What truly matters is if you are happy with what your money does for you. If your money makes you happy, you're pretty much set. The numbers are just numbers.

As with all things, this is my opinion. But of course, you're entitled to your own opinion.

Agreed, money can't buy everything. Fresh morning air, mental peace, job satisfaction are the few things which i can think off as of now. Which necessarily doesn't need money

Yes money can't buy anything but can be use in investing some piece of place up there. Giving it to the needy and expecting nothing in return. Letting the good deeds by right hand NOT to be known by your left hand.

Money buys alcohol and temporary pleasure/entertainment, not happiness and good times.

Happiness and good times are created, not bought.

If you're crying on a bus, it's quite easy to improve upon your current standing and circumstance.

If you're able to afford a Jag and are still crying, you're beyond help.

Better earn minimum wage and live an austere and simple life than live in luxury full on insecurities and debt. Happy to be drinking $2 bottle of beer where I come from. I feel rich when I'm with the company of my friends.

It's much happier to drink with your circle of friends with just $25 budget than drink alone a $1000 wine bottle.

  • Money can't buy happiness but it does give security and peace of mind. I know I can be happy with less but it's reassuring to know that I don't have to worry about sending my daughter to a good school or being able to pay all the bills. I'm happiest when I'm with my family but I like when I'm able to treat them to somewhere nice.

    blah blah blah,

yeah there sure as hell is a lot of stuff money can't buy .. but there is far more you can't buy when you don't have any money ..

for some people being able to pay 25 $ for a bottle of beer and not care about the cost makes them happer.. or 3,000 usd for a bottle of wine not to drink but to sprey on the people around them at a pool party ..

but if you are in Arun's shoes and there really is no choice but to spend that when you go out.. it may grate on you when you know just a short distance away the same money can get you far more .

and there i am kind of in that area ..but it wasn't a short distance .. lol .. but i am taking my woman out and we are having beers and nice food and side dishes ..and we are spending what it would have cost me where i use to live just to go out and eat what i had for the main course..and drink water .

even if money can't buy it .. it tends not to be that free if it is really to be valued
