Erase This Word From Your Mental Vocabulary...

DESERVE this word is ingrained in many of us from youth on. If you work hard you'll get rewarded because you deserve it. Schools love the idea because it gets kids to work harder on their education. Then the idea crosses over into adulthood where it is believed that working hard should be repaid (even if the results aren't there). In a way it makes perfect sense the worker at the low end isn't concerned about results but about doing what he is told to do. Most of us are told very little about results because the assumption is that we'll be working for someone else.

If you're working in IM you must get away from the idea that you deserve anything. You may spend hours on copy for a sales page and it ends up converting at a very low rate. You may think it deserved to do better but it makes no difference! The only thing that matters is results.

    "DESERVE"

I know this as entitlement mentality.

i am disagreeable many time ..this is one of those many times . so i will use the referance from dictionary .com

verb (used with object), deserved, deserving.
    1.
to merit, be qualified for, or have a claim to (reward, assistance, punishment, etc.) because of actions, qualities, or situation:
to deserve exile; to deserve charity; a theory that deserves consideration.
verb (used without object), deserved, deserving.
    2.
to be worthy of, qualified for, or have a claim to reward, punishment, recompense, etc.:

so i will agree will you ..erase the word from your vocabulary..if you are not willing to do the things in order to be derserving of the rewards for doing them .

just because you have a very expencive piece of paper called a degree .. does not mean you deserve to be given a job .. you still have to earn the job and the jobs have to be there to earn them .

and just because you have the debt to pay from getting that degree doesn't mean you derve to earn enough to pay for it ..

now once you have done the work to get the degree ..you deserve the pricey piece of paper ..once you earn the job ..and show up and fulfill the requirements of the job ..you deserve to get paid for the work you have done ..

and you only realy deserve the job ..as long as the person paying you is profitting more having you do the work than someone else ..there are some countries you main own your job .. but most of the worl.. your job is technically just work your employer needs someone to do .

understand what it actually mean to deserve something.. forget the crap fed to you by teachers and many other who get paid ..pecause they show up and do time at work every day no matter what the result .. so your teacher who can get away with failing to teach most of the student in from of them anything because the system isn't built to actually teach students ..but to train them to be workers .

so right if you have the prisoner minset i showed up and did my time .. so i deserve to be paid ..enough to live on .

just wait until reality stick comes along and beats you to a pulp..as is happening to many in the western world ..

you don't get what you deserve ..you get what you negotiate .

Great post Odahh! Life is a competition but in a 9 - 5 it's easy to say "I did my job, now where's my check?" IM is different you may feel like you put in work but the check never comes in. I see people complain that they followed all the steps from a WSO or eBook and didn't make any money. Well, now who's fault is that? In the end you are responsible for your success a WSO or eBook may give some basic ideas but you'll have to work out the wrinkles on your own.

For the most part I understand what you're trying to say here. Nobody should have a "victim of life" or "the world owes me" mentality. However, I wouldn't go so far to forget about what you deserve. It gets into ethics- what goes around comes around. When IM folks don't care about who deserves what, they might be more inclined to just make money from hype and tricks. Then they act surprised when they get chargebacks or bad reviews everywhere. I truly believe people get what they deserve, and try to help others who are down on their luck (so long as they aren't acting entitled).

For instance I've payed graphic designers what I felt they deserved, even when it's more than what they're asking. I could pay them less and still get the job done. However, I find the artistic types are far happier when they can just talk to someone and know they'll get what they deserve, not have to worry about always having to negotiate for things. Happy artists make better graphics, and I'll leave it at that.

Very true, I guess I was thinking more about how people see themselves and the work that they put into their business. As far outsourcing goes though you should only pay someone what you think the results of their work will be worth.
