If what you're reading is not something you're already an expert in, you need at least 2 thorough reads before you can even say you read it.
You can argue with me on this one...but if you get what i meant you get it.
I read a book at least thrice before even touching the next one.
What do most people do instead?
They read through a book, halfway thorough they lose interest because somehow the 'magic' pill they thought was in there isn't. (Its there but but they want instant results) and then they close it.
Then they go onto the next one...
Probably leave it halfway through as well.
This is where people go wrong ,why they think nothing works for them.
Because they don't stick long enough to see the results...they quit or loose faith.
2nd important factor is application.
You need to apply what you learnt right away, for it to stay with you long-term.
This is all in case of books where you learn something ,of course.
I'm not talking about story books or novels.
So, would you rather read a book thrice or read 3 different books once?
