Bit of help re mobile Web apps v responsive sites
Share on:

Im putting together a business plan selling mobile web apps to small businesses. Some don't even have a website, or a very poor unresponsive site.

Other local businesses do have a responsive site and I wonder on the potential to sell a web app to them. On the one hand of course are some of the app benefits v resp. websites. But on the other there is the additional cost of hosting, support, updating another source, shelling out a couple of hundred for the site.

Anyone have any experinces of seling into such a base or point me to any articles on the area. I can't find a lot on the web.

Thanks

Hey there
here's a few points I wrote a few months ago but still good, and reasons why I think a separate mobile website is way better than a responsive one, especially for SMB: Why a separate mobile site is (usually) better than responsive design

Let me know if you need anything else, or any help in building the sites/apps.

Cheers!

I know! How would you cnvince a small business with a responsive site on the addd value of having a separate mobile website, given the additional hosting/build costs and need to maintain an additional site?

I find it as more of an addon that people ask for and don't market it as much. Many of my clients ask me about doing a mobile app and then I sell them on the web app as in most cases it can do what they need and is much cheaper than doing a native app. I would focus on selling responsive "mobile" websites and then upsell people on the web app. I wouldn't try to sell them on the app until I've already sold them on the responsive site.
