Beacons or Geofencing

I'm late to the beacon game, but I wanted to know if anyone has been working with beacons for marketing and whether it has paid off. Any application or industry setting would be good to understand.

Honestly, it depends on what you're trying to accomplish. Beacons work in a smaller radius and are voluntary due to privacy concerns. They are great if you're trying to connect immediately to a customer in a physical location. If you're trying to geotarget an ad or personalize your website, geofencing or some other form of geotargeting would be more effective cost-wise.
