First things first. I’m definitely not a huge fan of the crystal ball users. Yet, every now and then I read an interesting prediction and I want to share it. So, this time the leading consultant companies played a mobile future prediction game. Here are some interesting results from the marketing point of view. So, according to the busy little bees working in PwC, our global population will reach 7.4 billion in less than five years from now. One in two people in the year 2020 will be signed up for some kind of the mobile Internet service. In addition, these mobile Internet users will use their devices and available mobile data mainly to watch video content. Now, it makes sense to me that Facebook has become so obsessed with videos. The PwC consultants are also emphasizing the “shocking” fact that more than 90% of all Internet users are going to live outside the USA four years from now. It seems that 2020 is going to be very important for mobile future. Cisco predicted that this particular year will mark a moment when the number of people who own and use a mobile phone will overpass the number of people who are “privileged” to have electricity. I’m not sure, if Cisco was referring to Africa, for example. I can imagine a village with no electricity where the only light comes from the mobile devices. Yet, how you’re going to charge your smartphone? You have to wait until you reach the local city or something. Some solar power charger. Not a pretty sight, indeed. Ericsson also predicted that by 2020 more than 70% of the entire world’s population will use a smartphone. In a way, this is an “old” news. I remember that we already made mobile history when it was confirmed officially that there are more mobile phones than people on our planet. Yet, I’m not quite sure about this one. Either way, our Internet marketing future is going to be a mobile one. So, Mobilegeddon will reach its peak in 2020. Lovely. |
