Hahaha I do both. SMS is expensive if you do not know what you are doing. Monthly setup cost are generally in thousands before you start making money.

There really aren't any free mass SMS services the good ones are all paid. You can you Google Voice or Google Hangouts to send out SMS messages for free, but you can't do mass ones.

160.com.au is a reliable and cheap bulk sms provider. When we used them they had set up costs, or contracts it was, sign-up, choose an SMS package and start sending SMS's - pretty simple. Regardless of which comapny you use SMS has near 100% open rates and around 36% CTR depending on your offer of course. Some view it as the "new email marketing" not sure if I'd go that far but it is a powerful channel.

You can easily find that on Google but the free services have caps on how many messages you can send per day, week , etc

Are you looking to send bulk messages. If so I don't believe there are any free ones. You can use Googlevoice to send free text messages.
