My Client's App - Check it out, get ideas
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hey everyone,

I'm really pumped that the new mobile marketing forum is finally here. With that, I'd like to share what I created for my local flooring client.

Ok, so I have been working with a local flooring client and we have been doing different things like SEO, google places, etc.

I decided to build him a simple app that does the following:

*one touch GPS navigation
*submit photos (we used this to have customers send photos of the floor so he can give suggestions)
*contact page
*search inventory
*newsletter
*push notifications (like text messages with no fees)
*blog
*fan wall
*events
*testimonials
*products
*and more

His download analytics are slowly rising (currently at 36 for local) but I think a few improvements we can do to promote his app are:

*adding app QR codes to his website (already done on Carpet Wagon - Los Angeles Carpet, Flooring, Laminate, Hardwood Floor, Check Special Offer in footer)
*email marketing for his app
*add QR to facebook page
*add to twitter
*add QR to his postcard & direct mailing campaign

What are some other methods?

Here are his QR codes

All backgrounds, buttons and styles can be edited via the online app builder.

Super simple service to add for your offline clients.

If you really want to help your customers out. Do not put them on Google first. Put them on Yelp first. Then drive traffic to them. Also make them offer a low end coupon on Groupon. Wait 1 week. Then go to google places and add them with the YELP link as the homepage. This drives GOOGLE crazy! They are at war with Yelp. The rank will climb FAST to take away from YELP.

Nice work Jerry.

Just out of interest was this something that your client asked for something you pitched to them?

I pitched it to them, he likes the app, now I have to increase the downloads.

I think adding the qr codes that link to the app will work if he adds it to his direct mail marketing campaign. Mainly because its local.

this is pretty cool but you have to actively tell the existing client base to download the app. With a straight up mobile website people are searching for something on their phone in google and your clients 'well SEO'd site' pops up, they click on it and re-directs them to the mobile site for easy contact. You are limiting the entry point for mobile customers.

Yet on the flip side this particular client probably doesn't have customers driving around in their car searching for carpet dealers either.

True and I do agree he will need a mobile website soon. However there are a lot of functions that an app can do that mobile websites are limited to.

For example, with an app he can have a "check in" tab where customers can "check in" and post to fb or twitter while unlocking a special coupon.

Same with a QR code, with an app he can have a limit of scans set before it unlocks a special code. For example, a customer scans a QR code at the register, however it records the number of scans, so if its set to unloc at 3 scans, the person will have to visit the store 3 different times and scan the qr to unlock the coupon/deal. You can also set the time the person can scan the QR, like once every 24 hours etc.

Also, a fan wall feature where users can interact and comment about products or food.

And the biggest selling point is push notifications. They are like SMS with out the fees! You can send unlimited messages to app users both free to the user and business owner.

I do agree that businesses need mobile websites however there are some businesses who can benefit from mobile apps. Mostly restaurants, bakeries, coffee shops, and some retailers.

I'm also going to start targeting bloggers with apps because of the cool stuff you can do with them.
