I've seen websites where you can type your website url into a little finder box on a page or a post and it shows you what your website looks like on a mobile phone. (Usually there is a nice image or graphic of the phone, which frames your website.)

Sometimes it takes you to a separate page within the site that has the search box and emulator.

I'd really like to know how to do this. I have searched for it, but am probably not using the proper search terms, as I always find mobile phone emulators, but no scripts or instructions on how to set this up on a website or blog.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

You need to goto addons in wordpress. From that position, search addons term 'mobile' 'iPhone' 'android'

Here is a link for one of the addon mobile sites. If you want the site to auto forward to a type of mobile device - there are add ons for that too. Simple pimple.

Thanks CottonKing, but that's not what I'm looking for. I don't want the site to render or forward to a mobile device, I want to test the existing site on a mobile simulator.

I would like to have the options for iPhones and Blackberries, and iPads, if at all possible.

They are not called emulators Val but simulators.

Emulators are mobile viewers loaded onto your computer like Mobilizer. They emulate a mobile website and functionality which is great to check if a site is already mobile friendly.

Simple iPhone Emulator for Windows

I use a iphone emulator - I believe the source is open and would not be hard to put on web for others to use. I assumed you wanted a mobile page LOL ASSUME = Ass...of myself.

When I clicked your last link, I see the purchase link. However, I have no idea as to what to do with the thing when I purchase it? I don't know what 'creating mobile websites using the Mobile Website Tutorials' means?

I also don't know what this means:

Are they using the same script you are selling, as that is the script I am looking for. Would it work on a .html page added to a Wordpress blog?

Also, the offermobi link checks websites in several phones. Is there a script that can be purchased and installed on your own site that can do this, plus be used on Wordpress?

if this is what your are looking to do then you need this package by Quentin:

to make it look the same as the other sites layout you would need to customize Quentins package to suit your requirements, it is fairly straight forward though if you are familiar with basic HTML - currently it does not work with Wordpress as a plugin

is just the script that they use to detect if a visitor to the site is using a mobile device or not... this script handles the redirect to a mobile version of the site... and will not do what you are wanting to do

I was looking to do a simlar thing within my main business wordpress website but ended up using my own custom version of Quentins fab simulator outside the wordpress platform itself.

I display my mobile designs in a wordpress page as images, when a visitor clicks on an example iimage (or link) they go to the respect simulator pages for that design outside wordpress so they can see a live, working example of that design. All the simulator pages link back to the main mobile section of my website so it's pretty seemless in oportaion.

for wordpress mobile site, all you need is a wordpress plugin called mobilepress. there are many more. do the search through the big G.

I get exactly what you you are trying to do....not sure why most people responding here do not. I am looking to do the same thing. Neil B. seems to understand what you're looking to do...did his suggestion work? If I understand what he's suggesting...it'll work....but not exactly how I am envisioning the ideal set up would be. I want my visitors to be able to go to a page on my Wordpress based site, see an image of an iphone (or other smart phone) enter a URL and within the screen of the image see what their site would look like on a mobile device. I know there are lots of really basic sites out there that offer this....so why can't we find where or how to add this to a WP based site? Seems like a good idea for a premium plugin!

Well let me know if you found a solution. I may just try Quentin's product....but sounds like its not the ideal solution. Have you tried it yet?

I have a solution for installing this mobile simulator into a wordpress site.
Go to TweakingWp.com select the mobile simulator tab. It works great for me.

Yeah thats my simulator but you still cant send a url to it as the get function does not work but if you just want a simulator it will work fine

TweakingWP.com and any other simulator does not do what I am looking for (unless I am doing something wrong).

Every simulator I have looked at is simply a window, looking at the top left of the full size page, + scroll bars. Whereas a real mobile has no scroll left or right (except when the user zooms in).

Thumbnail services nearly offer what I want but they all offer the wrong aspect ratio ie will only fill half the screen of an iphone.

Would be keen to see if Quintens simulator will do what I want. The link in this thread appears only to display one pre-set page.

Any other pointers would be helpful.

Simplest way to do this is using an open source iphone simulator available here

https://github.com/rioleo/web-iphone-simulator

you just add the files and pass an argument to the url so for example hosted locally

http://localhost/iphone/?url=example.com

that will then show the site within a frame the same size as an iphone.

Embed this url into a page in whatever way you see fit. iframe or whatever.

I offer sim for boh WP and non WP. You will have to edit (replace url) in the html file. Before you buy any simulator check Warior forum and compare features, ease of use.... some might have less features but are free if you google it.
