The problem is those designs are very graphic heavy. This is fine for people who are comfortable with photoshop or other graphics programs (obviously Neil is) but if you are not then you won't be able to edit much of the design yourself so it won't be very customizable for your own clients.

I really dont see this as a 'problem' with my designs Will, anyone can produce graphics these days with the likes of Gimp etc...sure my designs are a bit more 'creative' than others but any graphic and colour scheme can be used to produce a simpler looking page. As for the rest of the page they are simply coded and easily customisable...

At the end of the day whichever template someone decides to use to create mobile pages or sites they will have to be able to create and add a graphic or two in order to customise it to their clients needs.

Thanks FormerWageSlave

Funny you should ask...I will be launching my next WSO soon and yes these designs will be included....the option to link to the desktop website AND or the full version of the mobile site are already included on each page.

Yes you can use a seperate index page and use these for dedicated mobile marketing campaigns.

Hope this helps...

Hi GooBingYah

To clarify my statement what I meant was I'm not a fan of those companies offering mobilization services who then host the mobile site on their server and charge for hosting based on the amount of traffic that mobile site receives...they are also getting any SEO benifits which should be going to the site owner.

I prefer to host my clients mobile sites on their own server so they have full control and only pay the annual hosting fee...yes I provide the hosting and they keep any SEO benifits...it is their site after all!!!

Hope this helps

Neil, would you say that those landing pages are more CSS or photoshop skills? I've been using templates so far but I think I may need to start looking more into developing them myself. Must take a bit of time to set up each mockup for your meetings though no? Anyways you've got some great work there, keep it up!

Also Neil and Will, I'm very grateful for all that you guys share to the offline/mobile forums. I've been learning so much here and I hope that one day I can give back and contribute to the forum like you guys do.
Hi B and B

Thanks for the compliment bud

Using templates is a great way to get started and learn about mobile page layout etc...if you want to produce high impact mobile pages then a combination of skills is required including grahics, html and CSS.

What I do is I create a live, working example of a mobile landing page customised to the business I'm pitching, then use my simulator tool so they can see a working example on their pc plus I'll demo it on a smartphone THEN I upsell them to a full mobile site...works like a charm without breaking a sweat.

Plus once the prospective client sees what you can do they will sometimes ask you to take a look at thier regular site...I get a lot of this ;-)

Hope this helps

I was just letting the person know that if they got their hands on your designs they would still need to have some graphics experience to edit and use them with their own clients. Those who are comfortable editing such designs would find it just as easy to create them from scratch themselves.

Neil B
Neil,

Sorry, I didn't mean it is as a 'problem' as such, I just know from experience dealing with a lot of beginner marketers out there and they don't know how to edit or manipulate graphics at all. I love your designs and think they look great and by all means people should be just as creative with their own sites if they can... but I know a lot of people can't be.

The other issue is for people to be able to edit most of these files they would need a program like Photoshop which most people do not have. A beginner wouldn't be able to replicate your designs in gimp - it takes a bit of a creative touch which you obviously have. Chances are those who are comfortable editing such designs could just as easily create similar designs from scratch themselves.

That's all I was saying. It's not a problem just letting the poster know the reality. It's not as easy as you just giving them the designs because unless they are competent with graphics, they wont be able to do much with them.

Thanks Will I'll take your compliment as a Birthday pressie as I'm ANOTHER year older today...
but in total denial

I appreciate that it can be difficult or even impossible for 'some' to produce high quality graphics due to lack of skills, creativity, software etc BUT this can be easily and cheaply overcome by outsourcing (to people like me lol) if needed as long as the retail price can stand it...by providing a bit of 'design' the retail price can be pushed up considerably making it more than worth the extra cost.

This is not an advert for my services as I'm sure there are plenty out there who could offer this service, it's more of a pointer to a solution for those who feel they just cant do it.

Hi Elis

Ok...there really isnt an easy way to layout everything you need to do in order to fully optimise a design for mobile plus we all have our own ways of handling it but personally I control pretty much all of the layout via CSS and all image resizing for width and screen rotation is also CSS controlled.

Sorry I couldnt be of more help but it would require writing a full tutorial on the subject and I'm sure there must be plenty out there on the interweb or maybe checkout WillR's WSO or Quentin's course both excellent in my opinion.

Hope this points you in the right direction...

What if they already have a site and it is hosted somewhere else. You are not going to move their main site to your server just so you can make the recurring on the hosting?

This is what I am struggling with as the most I think I can get away with for a simple jquery mobile site is $500 but if I am setting it up on http://m.companydomain.com I am not getting the recurring income which is huge in this biz.

Guess you have to get creative and upsell them on SEO or google places on the backend.

Hi JBroyer44

You should definatley upsell any additional services you provide that can be useful to current or prospective clients...that's the name of the game!

If they already have hosting then I am always more than happy to setup everything on their current server with the view to a possible switch over to my hosting as and when their contract term runs out...I never put down someone elses services in order to grab a bit of hosting. However if their current solution isnt up to the job then I will recommend they upgrade with the company they are with now OR give them a deal to switch to my services.

I'm not sure why you have set a maximum price you 'think' you can get away with....create the NEED for you product or service, Price Condition your prospect correctly and charge accordingly....works for me!

Will,

I purchased your mobile websites WSO and am looking forward to the new templates. Will you provide the new templated to your former purchasers or will you do another WSO?

It might be better to have a mobile showcase for each month. This has turned from a showcase of mobile websites into more of a thank-you, question and answer thread.

I was going to mention the same problem - this thread is getting massively derailed.

This thread was created for the purpose of sharing mobile website examples only. If you like a design you see then hit the thanks button. If you have questions about a design then pm the person who posted it. If you want to sell designs then do so in a wso.

Let's get it back on track. Share your designs and if you dont have any to share then please don't fluff out the thread with other info - it helps noone.

Is any one doing any mobile campaigns for Optometrists / Eyewear Stores?

Also - how are these examples rating on the compliance scale? I am not sure how to look at that sometimes - I was checking one client site for a build, and it came up 79% - pretty high - but it was hell to navigate, and had some flash - so what should I glean from that?

Other sites that might look good come up 0%...

Should they all validate 100%? - who's a *MooRoo on this?

Is there a better quicker way to validate?

These all look awesome!

So, lets say you show them to a client and they say "i want it" and hand you cash...what are the options for building it for real?

So far I understand you create a sub directory called "m" or "mobile" and add a redirect script, but what are my options for building it for real?

Sorry if it has been answered, I am stuck!

Hi Anthony,

That isn't my design in the example. It is a big UK company, but the design looks real simple and could easily be replicated using the template Neil, Will or Quentin offer.

@MoneymagnetMagnate, thanks for the nice reply I use DudaMobile. I use different methods when I design these guys, but the top left one is the only one that came from a pure flash based website and while many builders don't work with flash, I built it from scratch. Unlike the others, that one costs pretty much the most on account that Duda automatically updates your mobile when you update your website. Unfortunately, with flash, I have to go in and manually do things. It's not a hassle though, she hardly ever touches her website. If you ever think about using their platform, just PM and I'll help you get started. Thanks again for the comment and have a great Friday

I am not sure if this is meant for me or not, but all I really do is design and export my design to whomever is handling the account. I have some full clients of my own to where I fully handle their account and also receive the residuals but in most part, it's designing and that's all. As far as coding and so forth, Duda pretty much takes care of the rest.

I use Photoshop to create the graphics, but as far as templates, I use them sometimes and then I tear the templates down and add stuff that our templates don't offer like a Social Media Control Panel. Most of what I work with is a simple drag and drop method. I have coined them "Social Media Control Panels", but honestly they're nothing new. You can see them on standard websites everywhere, and barely on mobiles. I really love them as I can design different icons or buy some that I like from other people. The best thing I like about them is that you or your customer never have to physically leave the site and then check in go find the Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare, etc. If the site already has a SMCP, all you have to do to visit one of their social channels is just press one of the icons.

The only thing I would mention for the second site is maybe trying a text color that is in more contrast to the background color. Remember that a lot of mobile users are going to be people on the move, out in sunlight, so the easier you can make it for them to read the content, the better. I think some people would have a lot of trouble reading that text in really bright or really dark situations.

Just a thought.

hi Will,

Thanks for the suggestion!

Actually, the text color is sharper and more contrast on the smartphones than the screenshot. For some reason, the simulator doesn't show the true color.

I like that soft pink. Makes my eyes feel good. BTW, I use to live in Raleigh for 5 years, near the Rialto and frequented Mini City much. My mother use to work for the state. Great city you live in!

If you're a pure Tarheel then maybe I know you, haha. I went to Daniels Middle School and Broughton High.

Hi All,

Great Showcase BTW... I haven't heard anyone discuss mobile squeeze pages. I have put one together I am now selling on fiverr. Thanks to Quentin - who taught me all I know about mobile website building. Thought this template would be good for our im niche…

Bit over seeing all these Iphones though, HTC is king in my books - sorry folks I know it's a bit off topic ;-)….

Note: At the bottom of this squeeze page is the auto responder code to capture your leads…Whoohoo….

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink....What if you can't find the water? ;-)

WillR,

I checked out Grimaldi's site on my phone and it asked me for my location (to find the nearest location) how did you do that?

Funny stuff. I had to totally re-record all my tutorial videos the other day for a new template I am about to release to my members. I always just choose a business at random to use as an example and that was the business I chose. I had no idea they actually have a mobile site. Well I'll be damned...
