Do you really think I am going to download apps for all my favorite local restaurants, bars, my plumber, my locksmith, my dentist, my mechanic, etc, etc? My phone would be full of these useless apps I use once in every blue moon.

A MUCH more sensible AND cost effective solution is for small business owners to have mobile optimized versions of their website. This way we need only bookmark our favorite sites and we don't need to download a separate app for each and every business. We can then easily access their website whenever we need to.

Besides, when I (the typical person) am looking for a service provider in my local area do you REALLY think I would go to the app store and search there? Of course I would not. I would go to Google and do my search. What am I searching for at Google? A website!

Sorry to say but websites are definitely where it is at for small local businesses - there is no denying it.

Let's not get off topic. This thread is for mobile website design examples.

Will will you have new templates available for your existing customers?

Do you offer them a landing page site for free (or at a discount) just to prove that it works....and then hit them with a full mobile site once they're hooked?

If not, do you think that would be a good strategy to get customers to trust us that mobile marketing works?

Oh, and in the Hair Design landing page, what happens when you tap the Touch Here To Book Now button? Does it just call the salon or does it go to some sort of email or contact page? Basically how do you track that leads are coming from the landing page?

I want to try this with one my customers

Hi Mike

If you've caught any of my other posts you'll no my feelings about giving stuff away for free, the ONLY time I'd even consider it is IF they go for a package over a couple of grand and then it would only be a single landing page...so basically I dont give anything away.

On that particular mobile marketing landing page it calls the client salon...

Hope this helps

I agree completely, Neil. I've never offered any product free to a client as a lead in.

When people do it with me I'm (quite frankly) immediately suspicious. My grandmother always told me that very few things are really free in life, and she was right. (She was also very wise.)

My services and products are worth the prices I charge for them. I don't expect a business to give me anything for free, and would never ask for that.

I may offer to add something to a service package I'm doing for a client if we already have an established relationship, but I never ever lead with "free".

I really like what Jason Fladlien said in his WP Pro "sell-inars" - if you need to it's ok to start with a reasonable price for your mobile sites ($500). Get 10 of those under your belt and you'll begin to see that they are worth more, and so are your services. (That's my paraphrase - but the essence is there.)

You've got it Kate!...By going in with a free offer straight off the bat you immediately make your services AND expertise worthless...people associate price with quality which is why 'price condition' clients during any presentation is absolutely essential.

I personally like simple themes. They perform better on older phones and you can always complicate things later. Something like these:

Guys with fantastic work, do you have any issue with mobile browsers compatibility? I started to build website from the scratch using CSS and HTML. All thanks to you for such great inspiration. I found that Safari have no problems at all, but Opera Mini and Skyfire on iPhone have two issues:
1. in landscape mode letters and everything is usually bigger, right? and this is what I see when I turn my iPhone. When I go to another page in landscape, it shrinks, but still match the whole page. It`s not bigger anymore it supposed to be. When I turned back to vertical mode, page didn`t shrink, but rather stayed the same and I could move that page from left to write, up and down as it was PC website not mobile. Interesting is that when I went to another page in vertical mode, it resumed to normal mobile size. I played with all kind of changes with CSS to try to fix it, but no success.
2. in Opera Mini, "header" never get stretched to the end on the right side, even though is set to 100%
I know is not support forum here, but please at least let me know if you have the same issues. Thanks
Adam

Christmas Themes Anyone!!

Has anyone thought of approaching businesses with a Christmas themed mobile site.

Last year people went crazy for Fan page Christmas themes, so i thought I would make available some Christmas ones if there was enough interest.

Below are 8 of 34 Christmas themes I quickly put together. You can create hundred if not thousands more with switching out the logo, icons and creating a new color theme.

Give me your feedback and thoughts.

Hi Ron, Love the look and layout of your templates, could you maybe PM me with pricing of them?

On a different note, when I check out your sig link on my HTC Wildfire your template looks squashed and awkward (Now I'm not sure if this is something to do with the settings on my phone). When viewed in landscape mode everything looks great, but not so in portrait. The logo is difficult to read, the tap to call feature drops below the home button, the wording on the five wide icons becomes shortened, and the about button drops below the other 3.

Please don't think I am being critical as I love how it looks in landscape, just thought you should know... and you did ask

Funny that I have a HTC wildfire as well and did notice that the 5 wide menu doesn't look too crash hot in portrait.

I am and will be dropping this down to either 3 or 4 wide.

With my more recent templates i have opted for the icons as my menu and only going 3 wide like in the above images.

The logo I have been playing around with and again I am leaning towards a more central and smaller logo with a separate background image.

I dont have 50 posts yet so can not PM you.

I totally agree with you Quentin and that's why in my new thread I am releasing a step by step video on how to turn 1 simple template into as many as your heart desires.

I have removed this link to my thread on jquerymobile as a moderator has closed my thread. Don't know why.

All by simply switching out the logo, icons and css theme. It is really very simple when you get the hang of it.

However there will always be a place for premium templates. lol

It is done using CSS3:

CSS Image Opacity / Transparency

Note that CSS3 is not currently supported by all browsers but it will be soon. You can still use it, it just means on those browsers that do not support it, the transparent feature will just be solid not transparent.

Hi Harimon,
Thank you very much for the compliment. I guess I was too late to answer a question was directed at ME, but yes, I did use CSS3. Feel free to PM me if you have any direct questions to me. I would be happy to answer them for you.

No offense intended Mobileco, I was just looking for the answer from anywhere at the time...

I like your presentations - great stuff, and any tips or tricks you can share in that respect are always appreciated...for instance, I'm trying to figure out that app button look, as exampled above...nice look for an auto dealer site or similar application -

Keep up the good work!

I have to tell you though, my holiday cards sending are always usually belated...they usually end up arriving around Valentines day...(or Easter)

@MoneyMagnetMagnate thanks on the compliments and no offense taken. You did nothing wrong, you were only searching for knowledge. I must admit, my knowledge of CSS or HTML is very limited and my skills have majorly been in the design area. I try to keep things as simple as possible and use space effectively. I know on this transparency trick, which a few friends showed me how with CSS, it didn't look as nice without it. It just ads a dynamic element to it. You can actually go into Photoshop instead and create your buttons and add the transparency that way and then bring them into the area you want it at (which is my next area of concentration with design). Good luck; Keep searching for knowledge and looking around for answers. I never stop.

This is exactly why the world is facing a major problem of pandemic proportions. I sure hope you don't tell people this stuff as advice.
Here is what is really the case with this APP business

81% of users prefer a mobi site over an app for researching prices
79% prefer a mobi site for reviews
63% prefer to use a mobi site for purchasing.

source-google's GOMO initiative.

APPS are NOT what people need nor is it what the consumer is using. So please understand what you are saying and realize this is no joke either
Billions of dollars were lost this year and the problem we are facing is worldwide and of Pandemic proportions.
By the way Will, nice idea!

Mobile Web in High Resolution -
Bringing half pixel borders to high resolution devices.

I'm not sure if my mobi brain can fully comprehend this yet...but I thought it might be a handy tip some of you could use - and perhaps display some other examples...it will improve pixel resolution and not add download time -

Mobile Web in High Resolution

Cheers

@bonn
Nice templates but texts are really to small, I don't think it's easy to read it.

I like the tropicana one, do you think icons are better than menus? Any ideas?

Bonn, I totally agree with you! 80% of Mobile Apps are only used once...

Small Businesses not only don't need Apps, but they don't have a sufficient customer base or returning customers, to justify the investment.

Selling a Business something that is not in their best interest is just bad business.
