I just got two meetings in 30 minutes

I decided after reading the thread 2 clients cold calling in offline marketing discussions.

I got my android phone and went to my maps application and pressed places, then I did a search for bars. All of the local bars in my area started popping up on the places page. Then it's easy, I go to each place page for the bar or (niche) and then I click on the page and see if they have a website, if they do I click on it to see if it's mobile ready, if not I press the back button and give them a call.

I use a simple script saying, "Hi, my name is Ryan Padilla, I am a local business owner in town and I found you on my mobile phone and noticed you don't have a mobile ready website. I would like to create a sample mobile site of your website and come in and show it to you. (How is this day)(at this time)?

I called 12 businesses and only got 3 decision makers on the phone, 2 of them said yes. All this in 30 minutes

I don't know how the appointments will go, as I am brand spanking new at all of this and still have to buy Quentin's script and learn how to use it.

I have a meeting on Tuesday at 2 and one for Thursday at 11am. I am going to go in and show them the website, but don't quite know how to sell it to them, hoping the site will sell itself. If anyone has any suggestions on this I would really love to hear what you have to say.

Anyways, I hate cold calling, always have, but i had to suck it up and now I just want to say, with this particular thing for getting appointments, it's like shooting fish in a barrel. I think once I up my selling skills it would be easy to have this replace my stupid restaurant job. There are a bunch of other things I am going to do as well. In the meeting I am going to attempt to get an interview with them to do a review on there business in a directory website I am going to build. With the interview I plan on using John's tactics that he mentions in http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...st-3years.html

Somehow after selling the client or not I want to go into the interview questions mentions to gather information and build trust with the business owner and find out what they are doing in there marketing and how I can somehow fit in. There are so many upsells that I am seeing and I basically see it in my head like this.

All we need is a foot in to meet the business owner/Decision maker and to get in and build trust and to give them value by finding out what they are doing and after finding out what they are doing I plan on telling them how they can market more cost effectively. like using google voice for there offline marketing to track results, claiming there google places page, barrying bad reviews by adding good reviews and dealing with there customers before they leave the establishment to see if they were happy with there experience, onsite offsite seo, backlinks, press realeases, articles. I am hoping to give them so much free information that they will just ask me to do it for them. And then when I do a good job for them, I plan to do upsells.

I purchased the ambulance method from Costa's Peppas and found a lot of businesses that need reputation management, these two businesses that I am meeting need it, as I saw right on my cell phone when I was searching for businesses that need a mobile site. They need reputation management too, and there are some very ugly websites out there too.

There are also so many that don't even have a website, but I have to figure out how to sell those first before I get into websites. I am planning on outsourcing this stuff to when I get busy so I can solely focus on marketing and generating new accounts for my business. I have not made any money from this, but the warrior forum is really like a college. I've earned more from this place than my 5 years in college ever taught me.

I'm so excited, and the WF provides a wealth of information, I am just on information overload and currently in the process of taking everything that I have learned here in a matter of weeks to bring it all together. I am trying to somehow take everything I learn from here and put it together.

Thank you WF and thank you everyone on here.

Ryan

    Hey Ryan,

Great that you are taking action, i hope it works out for you.

I`m also trying to get all of this together like you..

But i have to find a good va to outsource too because my mind is to explode already with all the information and tasks that come with providing services..
Making websites, facebookpages, facebookshops, google places, mobile websites, qr codes, video`s on your own is hardly possible...if you still want to get some sleep now and then..

    Good luck...

      Hi KCNL,

Yeah it's a lot to handle for sure. I can't wait for the day I can outsource something or even do it myself. I am going to make this work, got to go make some more cold calls, but I am excited to here if you have any results. Let me know how it goes.

      Thank you,

      Awesome job Ryan,

Your story sounds like mine from Wed. I called a few places and with the first two I got appointments but the other ones I couldn't get a hold of the owner.

I like your Google places to find leads idea. I'll have to try that one.

Also, I had a quick minute to myself while picking up the kids from school today so I called a local diner (the place is set up like it's in the 1950s...pretty cool). Anyway, their website is terrible so I called and used the same type of script you did.

He said for me to come in next Wed at 2:00. So for now I have 3 appointments for next week and hope to set up some more on Monday.

This weekend I'll be preparing various promo literature and a mobile website contract. I also want to set up some QR Code magic to show them some stuff with that while I'm there.

My goal is to mainly sell the mobile website and hopefully convince them into working on their regular one as well. Sell it as a package deal at a good price. Then after they get comfortable with me (maybe a month or two later) I can hit them up with new ideas such as videos, SMS, etc.

But like I said, the goal for now is to just sell the one item. I don't want to scare them away with too much information.

Mike, so glad I read this! I have this exact plan, but I'm yet to take action on it fully.

Would love to know more about your future offers of upsells! A mobile website alone does not bring risidual income, so I suppose it all depends on upsells as to the success of these ventures.

It was your post mrcouchpotato, that inspired me to take action! So thank you for that.

I am going to try and upsell them on being there marketing consultant and bringing them more business, by finding out what they are currently doing with there advertising and recommending different things to them. While maximizing the customers and followers they already have, through sms text messaging, email marketing, etc.

How exactly do you right a contract, I'll have to google this. I still have to build the sample pages, I bought Quinten's script. I hope I spelled that right, it seems like a bit of a learning curve for me as i don't really know how to read HTML or webdesign language, but it's okay, I hope I can make it work, I'll try my best.

When I call these businesses it's amazing how easy it is to get them to agree to an appointment. The second appointment the guy asked me if I could come in that day. Still have to make the sample, but damn the response is unbelievable. I never thought it would have ever been that easy. I am going to devote my whole day Saturday and Sunday to focusing on learning how to set up the samples and see if I can make the sites really nice, if not I will outsource it in the future, but the point is I am almost scared to set any appointments until I have learned the script. I will have it learned by the end of the weekend.

And then come monday I am on the phone for 3 hours a day to fill up my time with meeting business owners. I think it's also important to find other ways to get the foot in the door, hopefully after I have enough money from mobile sites or consulting I can start to hire someone, and then it's on to creating new ways to get business. That's another thing, I bought Costas Peppas Ambulance method and I implemented that I starting sending out emails instead of direct mail though because I don't have money for direct mail. I had two business owners call me back, I lost the sale because it took me by surprise when they called, but I have since finely tuned what I do when they call back, I sent out 22 emails and got two calls back and two emails, that's pretty sweet odds if you ask me. I have since been working on building value in the script and outline of my services for that one method alone. What i think it's about for me so far is just finding new ways to create contact with these business owners and using that as a way in, and after providing them with value and delivering on the services, I have then proven myself and will have my foot in to create a lasting business relationship and having them gladly hand over there referrals. HOPE!

I know that I am getting way ahead of myself here, but the point, is that I hope everyone see's the potential in themselves and in being able to create there own way of making money. Seriously I've been around the warrior forum for about 4 weeks or something not sure and too lazy to look really. I learned about it years ago, but I didn't pay any attention, that was dumb. This place is a gold mine, literally. There are so many creative ideas, and it really sparks my mind and gets the creative flame burning to a point where I am starting to tie things together and come up with my own money making ideas. it's about trying new things and finding the ones that work and keeping them, fine tuning them and at the same time developing new ways to create new business, new ways to get ourselves in front of business owners to offer them value.

And we are offering them new ways to market there business or whatever it is that we are offering. Correct me if I'm wrong about that somebody please, I am in no way an expert, I am brand spanking new to this, but my point is that if you apply the stuff the people that are actually successful and making money on this forum are saying, you will make money. If you don't then it's impossible for me to believe that your trying your hardest.

If you want this you can get it, and I think knowing that is half the battle, knowing that you can and having that in your mind. That at least has lead me to believe in this, and I know that I can make a business out of this and create wealth for myself. If you have that desire and confidence in yourself than how can anything bad come out of it.

Things might get frustrating and hard when you aren't getting new business and I know because I'm still working at a restaurant for crying out loud, I have no furniture in my apartment, my girlfriend and I sleep on a memory foam pad because the cat got on to the air mattress and popped it, i don't have any choice but to make this work, because nothing else is cutting it for me, I have to make this work, and trust me getting turned down by a few businesses and having people think I'm crazy for trying to achieve this doesn't %&*$&#* matter, because finally after searching very deep and learning I know that this is something I can do, and anyone who believes in themselves can do.

I'm sorry if I have gone off on a tangent and gone off subject if that is annoying to anyone, you maybe saying this guy is new, he doesn't know what the hell he is talking about, but that's the thing I'm trying to say, it doesn't matter to me, all that matters to me is that I want a good life and I am going to stick my kneck out there and offer services that I know are good for small businesses, too many people are hurting right now, and I know I can help them, and I also have something to offer to those that are thriving. i can help them get more customers, I know I can make there business endeavors more fruitful no matter how successful they are, and that is what I am seeking to do. No matter how successful they are, I am almost 100% percent sure there is something that a business is missing in there marketing efforts, and if I can get that message across to a business that is already thriving then that is grounds for making the big bucks.

I felt inspired to write this and I hope it was not too much of a bore, but anyway, thank everyone so much on this forum that has helped me and thank everyone for giving such valuable free information.

God can you imagine what my posts are going to be like when I actually start making some money.

          I shush now.

          Thanks

              Cyberoptic:
I am going to try out different pricing options.

I have been working on some up-sells to so I will need to integrate that as well after the initial contract is signed and I have a check in my hand.

I am working on the contract as of the moment I finish this post.

The pricing I am going to be using is
$350 a year if hosted on my server
$500 if they want the files to upload on their own servers.
$525 if they want me to upload it for them.

I am finding a ton of people that don't have websites as well.

I called a coffee shop today and figured out he is looking to build a new website, I am putting together a sample for him and then going to send it to him. I said I would have it ready in a few days. Then he would like to meet with me next week if he likes what I come up with. He doesn't even want a mobile site, but I am going to create a sample just in case because of how easy it is.

Also a lot of small businesses websites are not very good, so I would like to look into the quality of there existing websites and work out a package to do upgrades in addition to mobile sites.

And again I mention reputation management due to the fact that some of these businesses are hurting from their bad reviews and if I can show them the value of them letting me help them then I'm sure there are a lot of upsells there too. Reputation management is pretty big right now I would assume, especially because of the fierce competition. And when a business has bad reviews eeryone can see them, and they can also see them compared to the other businesses that pop up above and below them. It doesn't make there business look very good when they have bad reviews and the businesses above and below them have goodreviews. WHO DO YOU THINK YOU WOULD WANT TO DO BUSINESS WITH? The business with good reviews or the business with bad ones.

I have my first appointment tomorrow, I have one on wednesday, and thursday too, I just finished my mock-up sites for the first two appointments. I have to get the contracts and invoices printed out and prepare for my meetings. I make sure and generate a qr code for each business so I can take my smart phone in and say, "here is your existing website on my phone, here is the sample I created for you, I then will give them my phone after I open the qr code reader and say scan the barcode. Then it will lead them right to the site for them to browse around and see for themselves how cool this stuff is.

I also want to try and get them to let me do there sms marketing and email marketing for them. I haven't figured out my prices for that yet.
And I haven't figured out how I am going to try and get them to let me be there marketing consultant, but if you do the research you can see that a lot of businesses marketing is outdated and they need our help. It's just getting the message across and building trust.

I will let you know how each appointments goes and update everyone on any problems and successes I run into.

I am very excited, WISH ME LUCK please!

Thank you for all the nice things that you are saying, I hope this has inspired someone to get out there and try this stuff. Now I haven't made any money yet, but all I can do is keep trying.

              Patrick
You are right, that is why these leads are so hot right now, because a lot of smart business owners know they need one. I am also finding in my calls that a lot of businesses don't even know what I mean by mobile friendly.

One guy said, "the website comes up on my phone just fine, it works."
I explained to him that it doesn't fit the screen and you have to scroll around and zoom in and out to find things which can be confusing to the users on a cell phone.

Oh quite the opposite. A mobile site will bring in residual income if it is sold that way initially.

          1. If you host it on your server
          2. If you market it with ongoing maintenance ie, , email customer list building, monthly newsletter, weekly coupon management, etc.

This is just the tip of the iceburg when it comes to offering true value for your services.

I am planning on selling them a website and a mobile site, I am devising a plan on what to do for that, but honestly the leads for businesses that have a website and not a mobile website are burning hot!!! Because a lot of them already realize the importance of having a website, and mobile sites are still generally new to many, many, many businesses, not to all of them, but it is new to a lot of them. And the business owners a lot of times are going to want to keep up with the times and make there site mobile ready once they see the difference on a cell phone.

If anyone has any input on selling a website to businesses please chime in and give some advice because I also would love to know how you go in cold to sell a website.

I am not just focused on mobile, I am focused on everything, like I said I have information overload, and I am just trying not to get the cart before the horse. But there are so many things we can offer a small business.

The main thing I am focused on is developing new business and finding something to get my foot in the door to gain trust from these business owners and make money while doing that. For example getting a business to let me come in and meet the owner is what I am trying to do, and I am trying to create several different avenues of achieving this, mobile websites being one way to get in, reputation management being another one of them. I saw a post for contacting businesses about there groupon ad and offering them a way to capture a lot of that flood of new customers through text messaging and email marketing, by getting the customers contact info when they come in for the groupon offer and when new people just come in in general, and then offering there own deals after capturing peoples info so they can make offers to that list and make all of the profit. I shouldn't try to reexplain this, just look for this and it explains it in detail. http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...new-shoes.html

So i hope I am clearly making my point because I am not the best writer in the world, but the point is, I am finding as many ways as i possibly can to get my foot in the door to offer my front end products and then upselling to them in the future things that will cost a monthly fee. And growing at a rate I can handle so I can handle any new business that come from this. I listened to offlinerockstars.com interviews and learned so much. One of the main things I took away in one of the interviews was making a plan and to only take on as much new business as you can handle. And making sure when you grown to a point that you can't take on anymore new business to use that new money to put back into your business to make it better and finely tune things to handle what is going on and to get ready for new growth so that you can prepare it to grow more and handle more clients.

Ive seen quite a few posts that say the same thing you are saying here in the MM section. It just goes to show that if you cold call for ANYTHING, you will find there is still a HUGE market for websites... and to think they say that market is saturated. Heck you run into a ton of biz owners that need a site ACCIDENTALLY if you just cold call, even if its not for websites.

Although I think mobile marketing could be a better door opener than a standard website pitch, and maybe open some people up who wouldnt admit they needed one if you were calling for that reason.

I may run a test next week on that and let you know the results.

I think that's more than just a straight up cold calling since many (if not all) small business owners truly should have mobile sites nowadays. You don't need some sleazy selling tactics to trick them into purchasing that since it is a clear need. Good work!

I would look at Google there is a tool to search places for the same type of business in the same area. It provides a list and you can cold from it.

    Hi,

I have heard that a lot also from 'potential' clients:
    {the website comes up on my phone just fine, it works.}
They don`t see the problem with scrolling and fiddling around with the screen..
I even had restaurant owners tell me; yeah but they can download the menu pdf, haha
some people just don`t get it
I will have to make a website that really shows them how they are losing customers or a free report for them to download with all the benefits that a mobile website offers..

And i thought i was stoked, i love your drive man, i`m sure you will get sales in the next few weeks.
Keep writing about your progress, your action taking is inspiring...

    Thanks,

I like that free report idea. How would you get that in the business owners hands? I am looking into writing a simple book outlining all of the internet stuff a business should focus on, like google places optimization, mobile sites, seo, websites, internet marekting, etc. And want to start a meet up group. I have read a lot of stuff about doing meetups and speaking in front of small business owners and that it's a great way to get people to trust you and do business with you. A lot of people are getting lots of business, and referrals from these meetings.

Anyway i like the free report idea.

Is anyone using direct mail or anything? so far the best way I have found is cold calling, but I would really like to know if anyone has different tactics.

    congratz Ryan!

overcoming your fear of cold-calling was your first challenge, check-off list.. now go invest a day playing with Quentin's WSO.

i bought it, and his videos/the script will help you get started building sites, and from there is just just "practice, practice, practice" to become proficient/confident in doing it. he offers some good resources for graphics/templates as well.

best wishes to your continued success.

So I have my first appointment at two chicago time. I have one tomorrow and one thrusday as well.

I finished the first two mock ups and generated qr codes for both I can't wait to see the wow factor when I ask them to scan it with there smart phone or mine if they don't have one.

you definitely get better with practice. My sites are looking better and better

I am working on building my website as well for marketing consultant. I am dong some seo and backlinking for it and really trying to get it to be a killer website so I can start emailing people and letting them take a look at my portfolio and website before they decide to do business with me if that's what they want and I have been finding that it is what a lot of businesses ask for.

Allyways, thank you for the kind wishes.

I'm a bit nervous, but I really think the product will sell itself, and I certainly hope that is true, I will let everyone know how things go.

So I went in today and talked to the director of marketing and pr. she loved everything I had to offer. She loved the site and was amazed when I told her about my directory idea along with sms marketing and email marketing.

She can't hand out checks, but she is the direct contact to the person that makes the decisions and she is going to discuss with him everything and hopefully I will have a meeting with them. Anyways, I didn't sell anything yet, but the meeting went very well. It was short, but it was sweet.

I sent an email detailing what I will be doing for the mobile site along with additional services including sms and email marketing and a gem of an idea I got from one of Don Alm's posts.

This business is basically headquarters for everything Irish in my city and I proposed a directory website, lisiting businesses that are irish related. And they can hand out a link or qr code to the directory of irish businesses to their patrons. I will go out and charge a fee for these irsih related businesses to advertise on the directory for $$$. I will charge a yearly or monthly fee, but I haven't worked that out yet. Got to figure out what makes the most sense for all parties involved. Anyways I offered to give the irish headquarters a percentage of my advertising profits just for handing the directory out to all of there patrons and She loved it.

This could be great to generate more revenue for them.

That's all I got. She didn't have any objections and didn't even really say too much, she just simply said I love the idea and I will be bringing it up to my boss. I will follow up with them later this week. Probably friday. I Already sent the email and left a voicemail stating that I sent the email.

My fingers are crossed, but for now I got to focus on my future meeting.

How is everyone else doing, does anyone have any ideas they wish to share that could help me and others out?

        This is so fun!

I can already feel my new bed coming and furniture and a refrigerator full of all my favorite food and snacks.

        Can't wait!

        Thanks everyone!!!!

      Thank you everyone!

Okay so I had a meeting today with the president of a corporation that is in the coffee selling business. I try not disclose the clients I am working with just because I don't want to risk losing them. Call me paranoid, but oh well.

Anyways, I met with the president and she was blown away by the site.

She showed up about 30 minutes late, but it's okay because the meeting went so well that I don't mind her tardiness at all. I went into talking about her website and showed her how it wasn't user friendly at all on a mobile phone, I then had her scan the qr code to the site I built her and she was amazed. She looked at the new website and was really involved in looking and browsing around. She was amazed at the tap to call and tap for direction features. She just couldn't believe it and she was so excited that she grabbed one of her managers and told him to have a look. Shen then went on and asked me if she could keep the qr code so she could bring it to the office and show everyone in the office. I of course gave it to her.

She decided that she wanted to take a look at the contract that I had written up and she wanted it to sink in for a day and that I can call her tomorrow. She said I want to do this right now, but I have to let it sink in because I don't want my excitement to get the best of me.

I told her that the contract is just something I bring in to go over with you, but I am willing to work with you on the contract if you see anything you don't like and she was really happy about that.

She informed that national coffee day is next week and that the company just purchased a vehicle to drive around the city and hand out free bags of coffee and she wants me to set up a page for the company with a special promotion in honor of national coffee day. She wants to put a qr code on all of the free stuff that she gives out, and build up a little mobile page on the mobile website promoting that special offer. She just kept going on about all these things she thinks that this mobile ready stuff will be good for in the future of the company.

She then went on to ask me if I do anything special for her if she gave me referrals. I said yes of course I will work out something special just for you. She went on to add as an oh by the way that the clients she would be referring are very big and successful companies. One being The Chicago Trump Tower. Holy hell!!!!!

I also discussed the existing website and it needs a lot of work, she just kept going on about how ugly the site was and how it wasn't user friendly at all. She possilby wants me to do a redesign of the website and also wants me to fix some problems in google places that I found when I was just looking on there. First of all the google places page still direct to there old website. And they just had a new website built, but it is quite confusing either way, so hopefully I get commissioned to build a new site as well.

I am amazed by this meeting. I thought she was the marketing director, but she told me that she was promoted a little while back to president. So without even knowing it almost the whole meeting until she told me, I was sitting with the president of a big corporation talking and having coffee.

Haha the whole time I'm sitting there thinking oh god please do this, I got to buy some damn furniture and rent is coming up soon, and I am running out of groceries.

I have another appointment tomorrow, got to get on the horn early in the morning and call more businesses to fill up my next week. I am trying to hire an appointment setter as soon as I have the money for it. Hope that happens very soon. And I have about 3 more more poeple that I know that want me to do this for them. I am building a website for my business and yes of course it will be mobile friendly. I can't wait to start marketing through direct mail and setting up more marketing for my company.

I hope I am not boring anyone by sharing this stuff. I am only sharing it to let you know that you can do this if you're new and you're wondering how to put it all together. I am new too and I have never done any of this until about 3 weeks ago, but it is possible to make money on your own. And one day you could be sitting in your apartment not knowing how to pay the rent, with no food in your fridge and no furniture except a foam mat to sit on, and the next day you could be having a meeting with the president of a major corporation drinking coffee and talking about doing business with the trump tower of Chicago.

Not trying to brag, but come on that's pretty fu%$*&% cool lol.

I will add some screen shots to my sites as soon as i figure out how to do that.

I can't remember where I got the idea from damn it. But anyways I got frustrated because I have run into a bit of a slow streak with the cold calls and setting appointments which I know is to be expected. So I called a funeral service today and presented the owner with the idea I got from one of the posts on this forum and thought it would be great to try out.

Here's the idea, I saw a video about qr codes on grave stones and having them link to a webpage that leads to the deceased persons memorial website, and honoring the memory of that person. So the job is to basically build a mobile site and website that is dedicated to the memory of that deceased person and put the qr code linking to it on the grave stone so anyone could scan it and bring that persons story right on their phone. What a golden idea! Wish I could give credit to the person that gave this gem to the warrior forum. If you read this thank you.

Anyway, I called the owner of a funeral service today and presented him with a short version of the idea. He said that it sounded like something he would possibly consider. So I asked for a meeting with him to show him a sample and talk to him about the possibilities. He is meeting with me on Tuesday.

There are a ton of funeral homes out there and what better way to honor your family then making the memory of them virtual. I would definitely want to honor the memory of my deceased loved one with this and when I go visit the great what better way to scan through the past than having there story right at my finger tips.

    Anyways I have a question.

Am I allowed take this idea and use it to make money for myself??

You just have to find someone to do the metal print.

Just google metal print. Find a company and call them to work out some sort of deal with them, once you have a few funeral homes that you set the deal with tell the print shop that you would like to set up a wholesale deal or offer to build them a mobile website for a break on the cost of prints.

I just offered my improv school a mobile website for free classes. Haha. She said she would think about it. Out of all the companies that probably do this, I'm sure you can find someone to give you a deal. And think if you could build them a site and get referrals from them. Print shops have a lot of small business clients I would assume, so while I am typing this bam I found another way to get more clients. Set the print shop up to do all of prints and start bringing them lots of orders from the metal prints on the gravestones. And also ask them for referrals to all of the accounts they have. Now you have a relationship with them and referrals for more small businesses that need a mobile site.

PS just a fair warning, I'm no expert or anything, but you should probably look twice about sharing stuff or photos even that might give away private details since-- you could get in breach of contract or a zillion other things. Not trying to scare you, but contracts may do stuff like that, etc. When in doubt-- especially if you're just starting, take caution, since it can come back to bite you later when you've got a whole business.

Mobile web sites are awesome and very easy to sell, especially if you have a smart phone and can show them business owner or marketing director or whatever right on the spot!

Anyways, were you able to collect a check? Coffee is for closers remember... CLOSE the deal and get a signature and a check before you give away the house.

The coffee shop has not called back. I called and left a message for the president and basically said.

"Hello, Its Ryan, and I am calling to follow up to find out if you are interested still or not in the mobile website. Either way if you could give me a call back and let me know at (my number). I will go ahead and leave the site up for the rest of the week and if I don't hear back from you I will assume it means you are not interested and I will delete the files. Thank you I am excited to hear from you and have a nice day."

I don't know if she will call or not obviously, but we'll see.

I had a meeting at noon today and I sold a site to a restaurant. We are working out the rest of the details about what he wants on the site, but the contract is signed. Now he just has to pay me. He was super busy the entire meeting so it wasn't the best time, but he said no please lets just do this meeting now and get it done with. I said okay and he signed the contract and now I am having to go back in this week to collect the check.

I have 3 appointments with funeral homes this week to show them what I got and hopefully they would like to do business, and I am sure that they will, because it's a way for them to bring in more profit and it's so easy to tell them about the memorial mobile sites.

I have run into a brick wall with setting appointments for mobile websites, but I just have to keep calling, it's been pretty hard to get the owners on the phone, the good thing is that some people are telling me when to call back to speak with the owner, so I have several places to call back this week, and I am continuing to call new businesses to try and set appointments. I thought this method would be easy to get at least one appointment a day, but a lot of the time I am realizing that it's not. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone, because it's still good, you just have to be dedicated and don't let 100 no's discourage you. Keep calling! that yes will come, and I know once I get some businesses to work with I can start my referral marketing tactic from there. Referrals are the prize and are part of my long term goals for the month. my short term goals are getting at least one appointment a day.

So I just have to keep calling businesses no matter how many damn no's I get. Is it frustrating? Hell yes it is, but anything worth it isn't going to be easy. This is so new to businesses still and it's something they need. Which is why it's so important to get them to sit down for a meeting. This stuff is so valuable and I know if they just sit down with me I can show them why there business needs it.

I will leave an update on the coffee shop if anything changes, and I am also waiting to hear back from the Irish Culture center. If they don't call back and anyone has any advice on what to do in this situation please add.

I thought for sure I had them sold, but now I just can't figure out what went wrong, because they all seem so excited about this stuff, but they haven't been back in touch yet.

I realize they're very busy so maybe that's it, but all I can do is wait I guess.

This is great stuff Ryan and all.

I saw someone ask about price points.

2 examples now - working on a lead here in New Orleans - I charge $500 for a fully customized mobile site.

I'm also working with an electrician - his site was really out of date. There was an opportunity to do both his main site and mobile site - a "twofer." It's really a great situation b/c now I can control the look feel and marketing message as we brainstorm together. For this I'm billing $1800 and instead of a monthly fee for additional work (he's very proactive and invests alot in his marketing) - I've negotiated a $97/hr. rate to work with him and his assistant on their email marketing.

The key is to not sell - as Ryan was sharing earlier - many businesses know there's a problem, they just haven't made the connection. I offer them education and back it up with stats that are relevant to them. Having something they can look at - a mockup is a great idea - even if it's something that you created for yourself.

Hey Ryan, thanks for the update. I'm new to mobile stuff but I have done a little sales. So my tip is to keep the flame at constant temp. Sell the sizzle not the steak right? Well you can't get a sizzle if there's no heat. These guys will be busy doing their day to day stuff. Give them a follow up call and then follow that up with an email.

If they're interested but say they're busy, just turn up. This is when they're slow. Caves, restaurants always have slow times during the day/night.

Get in the ear of the 2ic. Sometimes the decision is made but they have no time, so this will prompt them to delegate.

Keep at it and keep us informed. This is great stuff.

Don't want to go too off track here but I imagine the biggest downfall to this mobile marketing and setting up a meeting is reaching the boss of a company. Do people only attempt to cold call and get hold of the person in charge or are people following up with an e-mail?

Personally I may try the cold calling to speak with the manager first, then if no luck send an e-mail specifying why you was trying to reach him and then call back a few days later to try again and see if he got the e-mail. In the e-mail you can do a simple pitch and specify that you will call back to try to reach him/her again. They may end up telling staff that if such a person calls to put you through so you can have a word.

        Hello All!

This is the best day in a long time!

I called a business that I found on groupon that didn'thave a mobile website and left a voice message on Monday, he called me back an hour later and was very interested. He asked me to come in the very next day. So I scrambled and got the mobile mock up ready for my presentation with a qr code. I met with him at 1100 am Tuesday morning and went over the mobile website. And after that I started asking what kind of marketing he was doing and whether it was working or not. This guy was advertising with yelp and paying $500 a month and said he wasn't getting any business from it at all. I asked him if he was doing any other kinds of advertising, and he said he did some print ads, but the only success he's had with marketing was word of mouth from existing clients.

I basically just found out all the marketing he was doing and then starting giving him a bunch of information on other things he could be doing to market his business. I recommended google places optimization just sharing with him basic stuff (ie adding videos and adding reviews to all of the review sites out there) I said that we could start giving a survey for all of your customers to fill out and we can then take those reviews and put them on the authority review sites like yahoo, google places, yelp, etc. And you can start writing articles and press releases about your business and the specific services you offer and just write articles that have specific keyword in them and link back to your websites. In these articles we will give valuable information and position you as an expert. We have to to get you name out there and start educating people on why they need your service and also give them good tips on what they can do now.

He does injury prevention and sort specific training among other things, but I really gave him a lot of information on all the things he could be doing to promote his business for free. I just opened up about a bunch of things I know about that he could be doing for free to improve his presence on the web and how he could be targeting people that are looking for his service. I got into keywords, google places, adding reviews and becoming a member of more review sites and taking his customers reviews and entering them in for them, but not to do it himself because if he did then google has a way of tracking it and would penalize him unless he knew how to do it without that. He of course said he didn't.

SOrry for the scattered thoughts, but anyways after I gave him a bunch of information he just said I don't have time to do all of this myself, do you do this? I said yes I do, anyways we set up $947 up front which you see above. After this month we agreed that after the month it will be obvious what I can do for his business and we can decide to move forward with a monthly recurring payment of $1000 for me to continue doing his marketing for him. I shared all the things I can do for him, and he just started getting excited and was loving the information I was giving him. He said more times then I can count, "Ryan, I am so glad I met you"

This is great, my first check.

Out of curiosity, what do you do to make up your demo sites that you show to prospects?
Do you do this on your PC, and print off a screen shot, or do you make something up quickly for a smartphone with their company name?
Whatever you're doing seems to work well during your appointments

I create an actual mobile site mock-up with the client's logo, address, and some real pages created from their real website. I then put it up on one of my subdomains. At the meeting I bring up their real website on my smart phone and show them how difficult it is to view. I then pull up my mock-up and they love it.

I think it really helps when they see it with their logo, their colors, their phone number, etc. It's almost like giving them a toy and threatening to take it away from them if they don't sign up

Plus, if you do a mock-up and they do buy it, some of the work building it is already done.

                Awesome stuff Mike

It's like the 'puppy dog' close.
How long does it take you to put all of that together? And is there any particular program, or system you use to create the mock-up?

Also, do any of these business owners get grouchy that you went ahead and did all that without their permission???

I can tell you that I am the biggest noob on this site when it comes to these things and I d/l'd WillR's [WSO OF THE DAY] Your First $297 Sale 48 Hours From Now? [OFFLINE]. I created my first demo mobile site along with a video that shows the difference between my site and theirs. Now, some will say the mobile site looks "simple", I say it's "fast".

Keep it mind, this video was an impromptu trial run, but I think you get the picture. Also, the site I made was a test run using my friend's site to go off of. Took me a few hours on my first go. I needed to practice my chops!

Highly recommend Will's product. Def worth the miniscule investment.

Warren: Thank you for your kind words and support.

I do pretty much the same things mrcouchpotatoe is saying.

I call the business and set the appointment, then I work on the mock up site for about 30min to 45 min. I focus on tap to call, tap for directions, company logo, and setting up a few pages. If it's a restaurant I make sure and put up buttons for the menu and make at least one of the buttons funtional to where they can actually click on the menu button and see the menu. For example I put menu, then under menu will pop up sub categories, like breakfast, lunch, dinner. I then make the breakfast menu and link it to the menu button. I also make sure and put a contact form on the site. Sometimes I'll put a video from there youtube page if they have one and Ill also put up a photo gallery if they have one on there site. You probably don't have to do all of this, but I like to wow them when I go to the appointment so I really go all out, I also put up a map from google maps and link it back to google maps so people can click the map and get directions.

I upload it to my hosting account on my subdomain and print out a qr code that I scan to pull up there site on my phone and most of the time I'll let them scan the code and pull the site up on my phone or there phone if they have one that scans barcodes. It gets them involved and the majority of the time they think it's so cool. I then just tell them why it's important to have one and answer any questions they have. None of the business owners have been mad, everyone I've talked to gets excited. And you already have them permission to make a mock up of there website so why would they get mad. If they were to get mad at me I would just apologize and tell them I will delete it immediately, but I highly doubt that will ever happen.

Godini: Thank you very much! It's support like this that keeps me going on the days I feel like not doing anything, and the days I'm hard on myself for not being able to get any yes's. Rejection really is getting easier to take as the days go by.

I noticed that you said when you leave them a message you mention that you are a small business owner, and the check they gave you is made out to you personally. Do you find when you tell people that you are a SBO that they ask for your company name? Do you just straight up tell them you are a one man show for now?

I ask because this is one of the things I'm struggling with that is preventing me from going after some clients. I don't wanna sound like some hack job living in my moms basement... but at the same time, I certainly don't have this whole business image setup yet (ya know, website, logo, etc).

Love reading your posts, they are sooo inspiring!

Thank you very much smhenrietta! I am glad that it's inspiring and that you take the time out of your day to tell me that.

If they ask I just say I am a sole proprietorship. One person asked and I said that my business is just me and I am a consultant. So it's not rare for someone to be a one man show if they are a consultant. At least I don't think it is. I'm sure a lot of the people on here are a one man show.

I don't predetermine what they are going to think of me, I just make sure that I give the best possible presentation I can, and I go in there with the belief that I have something I can offer them that is going to help them even if I don't get any money. If you go in knowing your stuff and go in prepared It's not going to be a problem. I don't have the website, logo, etc. set up either, but don't let that stop you from setting appointments and going in to give a killer presentation.

Just do some research on there business and go in with the mindset that you have something that can help them. Find out what they don't have (ie facebook page, website, google places optimization, seo, article marketing, press release, etc) And then tell them about it and how it works, and how it can help them. Just tell them, don't even say you can do it for them at first, just educate them as much as you can, and see what happens. Position yourself as an expert in the things you recommend, and if you find things you can't do you can outsource it like people recommended to me. I go in with the mentality that I am going to help these people and educate them as much as I know how.

The thing I've noticed is that when I go into a meeting I don't make it about the money, I make it about helping them and sharing my experience with them for free. Every meeting I've been in for mobile website has been so fun, they really act like a little kid would act if they were getting a cool new toy. I mean every one of them gets so excited and thinks it's so cool. I immediately make it about them, and I just start asking questions about there business. I think is is probably why people do not ask me or even think of what you're worried about.

If you haven't read this yet I highly recommend it. http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...st-3years.html

I go into all of my meetings with this mentality and I use the same relationship building and trust building tactics that John recommends. It works wonders, and in your meeting you'll be leaving with a friend, not just a person that you hope gives you money. A friend that will take your call the next time you decide to follow up with them. It can really break down the walls and get you guys talking like you've known each other for years. That's the one thing I've noticed from reading this and implementing it into my meetings.

I have people that still haven't bought from me, but every time I give anyone I've had a meeting with a call they gladly take my call. I went off on a tangent, but I hope I made a good point to you.

                    Thank you,
                    Ryan

                  Thanks for your tips.
I hope you dont mind, but I'm sure many reading these posts, would love to know what software you would recommend to create the mock up sites, and the QR code? And also where you can learn all this know-how that you have?
(Have you learnt it as you went, or were you fairly clued up on this stuff anyway?)

Also, do you intend charging them for hosting the mobile site?

                  Thanks

I read offlinerockstars.com interviews, http://www.warriorforum.com/offline-...st-3years.html and also costas peppas offline ambulance method. These all gave me the inspiration and drive to get out there and start taking action.

If there is something you can't do then outsource it.

As far as the software i use for the mobile sites. I use quentin's script. It is all I need to create a very nice site and it is very thorough. I am excited for the day I can make enough money to hire a friend of mine that went to college for this stuff that knows how to build mobile websites and websites from scratch, but for now quentin's script is perfect. I didn't know how to do any of it really. And if I don't know how to do something then I just come to WF and I ask, people are so open here. If that doesn't give me enough then I will outsource it. qr codes are free to create and you can create one for any url at goqr.me, just enter the url and wala!

If I upload it to there server I charge a one time fee of $500 with two free revisions and $80 an hour for any additional work, If it's on my server than I charge $397 plus $30 a month hosting. I am working on my different opening packages. I figured it this way, I need at least 5 services I can offer at $350 to $500 dollars, these will be my foot in the door packages. I just focus on things that get my foot in the door to build trust with these people. After I have a meeting I look at what they are doing to see if they need help (ie is there website linked to facebook, are they using twitter, does there places page have vidoes/pictures, are they using youtube to post videos and if they are are they using the right keywords, Does there site look good, is it confusing, is it making a good first impression? etc.) I take that knowledge into my meeting and then after my presentation I go into a conversation with them about what they are doing for there marketing, what they are using that works, what they have used in the past that didn't work, if they are tracking there results. I find out as much as I can. Then I just start recommending things that they can do themselves for free. And there most likely going to be to busy to do it all.

I hope you don't mind me asking but, you say you only started a little over a month ago without knowing anything about html or any of it. What are the services you are able to offer the client and how did you learn to do them so quickly?

I am really wanting to get in on the Mobile Marketing craze but just don't know what else I should be able to offer a client to get their business.

Any advice would be highly appreciated.

I am learning everything I don't know how to do here on WF and on google search. That's it and I'm no expert, but it's getting by so far, and like I said if I can't do it, I know someone out there can that would love for me to outsource something to them.

There are several services to offer people, seo, google places optimization, mobile websites, website, better websites, start putting reviews up for them only if you know how to do it without google tracking you. Article marketing, press releases, backlinks to there website. You can look at somones website and realize whether or not it is putting there best foot forward. I just look in warriors for hire section and see what people can do. I focus on marketing because that's what I am going into is being a marketing consultant, so I focus on services that relate to that.

I hope I am answering the questions well enough.

                    Did that answer the qestions?

This is an old thread but still very relevant as mobile marketing is really taking off.

Good cold calling script, but the rel key is starting out LOCAL, and building the trust - and getting a reputation as the go to guy, in your local area.

    • Excellent Ryan and well done for taking the first step.

Cold calling can be very fruitful if you follow the simply system.

Whoever you are and what ever you do, at some point you'll need to cold call a prospect for what ever reason. Know how to do this part well is one step on the rung.

First thing, I really want to say thank you for all of the encouraging words everyone is saying and for all of the valuable advice and input that you offer.

This has been a fantastic journey and it has been so fun to implement the information that is available on the warrior forum.

Today I followed the advice of Trumpador and JtoneyUK to follow up with them in an email. Literally the minute I sent both emails, both places the coffee company and the irish center got back to me.

The irish center asked me to call tomorrow.

The coffee shop has to go through corporate before making any decisions, but sent me an email asking me for specific details and complemented my presentation. She said "you gave such a beautiful presentation." And wanted me to give her the contract to have the corporate office review.
So they are both still interested.

I am collecting a check from another restaurant this week that signed a contract with me yesterday.

I had another appointment today and we signed a contract offering a new service for every funeral that comes through his (the funeral home owner) doors. I will be creating memorial websites and/or websites for every family that wants one and attaching a qr code to the headstone. When you think about it, it's such a great way to pay tribute to a persons life and now it's a way to let that person and family have more than just a grave stone.

Anyways, things I learned this week are making sure and following up by email and by phone, because a lot of the time email is the preferred method of communicating for busy people. That way you can say everything you need to and they can read it when they are ready and have time.

I just got to keep setting up appointments now.

Has anyone tried this cold calling apporach? If so, how is it working for you?

I haven't set a mobile website appointment yet this week, I didn't make a call today because I was under the weather, but I made several on monday and didn't get any yes's. I will keep trying tomorrow. Not going to get discouraged.

Also is anyone doing anything else to get appointments besides cold calling.

Monicad - that's a great price point! Is that to upload it to there server or do you host the site yourself. If you host the site do you charge a monthly hosting fee? I am very excited to get into email marketing and sms marketing. That's huge for businesses! That grouon idea is going to be a cash cow I just know it! I made the slides for my first video, now I just have to narrate it and edit it and start calling businesses doing groupon and living social and all the other deals that are out there.

Get those monthly fees so I can hire others to do the selling and telling for me.

    Anyways,

    Thanks all,
    Ryan

      Ryan,
You have a great opening line and from my own experience, cold calling is the best way to reach out and meet your target market. The problem with cold calls is that the prospect is cold.
In order to warm them up a bit you might want to email them first (with a picture of their site on a mobile phone if possible) to introduce yourself and in the process educate them re. mobile phone use.
There are some great videos listed by Quentin on this forum and although I haven't watched all of them I'm sure there is one that you could provide a link to in your email that would help educate/sell them. Most small biz owners know that the web is important but most don't know how important the mobile web is these days.
If you find that you'd rather speak with them first, you may want to email all of the people that were unavailable/not ready/not buyers with the sole purpose of educating them. Take a soft sell approach, be friendly and educate. A link to a good factual video will open some eyes and some minds.
      Good luck,
      Jim

    Hey Ryan,

That's a great result. One thing I do to get more leads, is to go to meetups (of target market), seminars, festivals etc. Basically, network and keep networking. There is always, someone who knows someone who knows someone that would be interested.

If you are personable to the people you meet, you will always have doors open for you.

I have to say your enthusiasm is infectious. I know this stuff but have recently fallen into a malaise. Now that I am out of it, your post, this thread and WF itself is great timing. It has rekindled the flame so to speak. So thank you.

I will be taking my own advice on sales

I had an appointment with another funeral home yesterday and they are going to offer the memorial websites as a service to there customers. Just have to wait on that and maybe stay in touch with them to see how it goes when they offer the service to their next customer.

I still have not received any money, not one check. I haven't given up yet, but it's definitely been a slow week, and I am stressing out a lot. I don't have a job anymore because I quit, which was dumb, but I am trying really hard to make these deals close.

I am just following up with the same people trying to get them to do this and they are not jumping yet. Just a lot of, "yes we're definitely interested in this. I got the one contract signed, but haven't been able to reach the guy that I sold it too. He said yeah, lets do it and then signed the contract and said he would have to pay me later, because he was super busy, but I haven't been able to reach him. I will call him next week.

I called about 7 print shops yesterday and presented the idea of doing a joint venture and having them offer the mobile websites to there clients and we can split the profit 50/50. I got 2 owners that I will be meeting with next week about that.

Other than that appointment setting has been very slow and I haven't been able to get any yes's all week from decision makers to meet with me to build mobile sites.

I don't want to sound negative, because I still believe in this, and I have no choice, but to make it work. Because if I don't I will not be able to pay rent.

I am hopeful that I will get a check next week, god knows I need it. Hate to put a negative twist on this, but that's where It's at right now.

Has anyone else been trying to make appointments this way? If so how's it going and if anyone has any advice on how to get people to pay up, let me know.

Here's a new tip that has been working very well for me. Instead of just contacting businesses willy nilly, look for those who are in DESPERATE need of your services - this is going to make the 'selling' much easier.

One thing I have had success with lately is going after those businesses who are using a lot of flash on their websites. Flash is still not supported by the iphone so if their website is built predominantly out of flash then iPhone users will not be able to view or use their website. Most business owners are completely unaware of this - in fact a lot of those I contacted didn't even know what flash was or that it was being used on their website.

It's very easy to get their attention when you can show them their regular flash website on an iphone and they see it does not even load at all. The best ones I have found to target are flash restaurant websites. There seems to be quite a few of them out there and it's so important nowadays for a restaurant website to be mobile compliant - ordering on the run is the whole premise of fast food.

Actually, my Android phone supports flash but I agree that this is a good strategy since iPhone doesn't support it yet.

Yeah, smart phones keep getting smarter and smarter.

So today went well, the coffee shop actually called me back and said that the offices in Vienna are still reviewing the documentation that I sent and the president is awaiting approval.

I talked to the restaurant that signed the contract and I am meeting with him on Thursday to collect the check and get the details for the mobile site.

I then started looking at groupon and living social so that I could find people for SMS marketing, and I took it a step further and looked to see if they had a mobile website too. Well I called 1 business to talk about mobile websites and his voicemail picked up so I left a brief message explaining why I called and that I couldn't really see his website on my phone and that I had a solution to that problem. Well an hour later he called me back.

He was so excited that he set an appointment with me tomorrow and said he has 45 minutes to meet from 11-1145 and is really excited to see the mobile site I told him I would make.

These daily deals people are obviously looking for more ways to get business and if their deal is running then I personally think they are hot leads because they are looking to build there business, so why not help them do that. A lot of the time people are buying groupon and daily deals on there phone and when they try and view there website it's hard to see. So why not make them a quick mobile ready page to get in front of the people buying the deal from there mobile phones and get them signed up for their sms text marketing program that you sell to them as well as the website ad set up a nice residual income.

So many gems on the warrior forum, people are sharing such great ideas that I can use for my prospecting. Take a look around.

          You're right Jtoneyuk:
I am not trying to get my hopes up either. I'm so excited to get the appointments and I know that money is coming soon.

          WillR:
Thanks for mentioning the flash thing, it's definitely something I noticed on here when I was looking around on my mobile phone on websites. So I will be focusing on that as well.

Ryan, excellent news mate!! This will no doubt spur you on bigtime to continue getting out there and scheduling meetings. I guess like many others have said, the mobile website is a foot in the door for further upsells. It just so happened that you got all of that in this one meeting!

From that post alone, you have shown a prime example of some useful tips others have mentioned previously.

    1. LISTEN to the client, build the trust and sell them your services to solve their problem/cater for their needs.
    2. Target people/business already spending for advertising (Yelp, Groupon etc). They are spending money on drumming up more business, so they will be interested to hear what else you can do for them that they are not already doing.

Congratulations Ryan, this is pure inspiration! I really need to start taking action and getting out there with this.

One question, do you have a personal website advertising your service? One which ou might place on a business card, or you can tell your clients to visit so that they can see your service in their own time. Have you had anyone ask you for examples of previous work (obviously if you havent sold any sites you wont be able to give them example sites/happy clients)

      Thank you very much ToneyUK

Exactly, it's all about building trust and offering them something valuable, positioning yourself as an expert. I noticed in this one meeting that if your willing to give them a bunch of free information and overwhelm them with information on the things they can be doing they'll ask you to do it for them. That is the main thing that I focused on in my meeting. Not to overwhelm them, but to give them a wealth of information that would be of use, and at the same time, I was positioning myself as an expert, and showing this guy all the things he could be doing to help out his business on the internet.

I am building a website, but I am just trying to get it right. I haven't really figured out how to show my services in an organized fashion. I need the site to be organized and that's definitely something I am having trouble with. But I am working on it. SHould have something up in the next couple weeks. Nobody has asked me for examples on previous work. So far they have been able to see the mobile mock up I make for them, so there hasn't been much of a need to show them anything else I suppose. Anyways they are not asking.

And you pointed out exactly what I was trying to say so thank you. It's about building trust and finding out what they need and want, and fulfilling that for them. If you're willing to give them information for free that says a lot and it also lets them hear that you know what you are talking about. It's a great way to build a good relationship with your future client. And after that it's just about over delivering.

    1. what was the message you left on his phone to get the call back?

    2. Regarding you helping him with reviews. You said you would be surveying the clients and then adding those to Yelp, Places, etc... don't the clients have to post those reviews themselves with their own accounts?

The message, "Hello, my name is Ryan Padilla, I am a small business owner and I am calling because I found you on groupon and noticed your website is not mobile ready. I would like to create a sample for you and come in and show it to you." I then just gave a brief description of why it's important for him to have a mobile ready website and left my phone number.

I learned from Costa's Peppas Ambulance method that you can collect reviews from the clients in a survey you give them after servicing them is done, and then you can take those reviews and enter them into review sites by creating seperat accounts for each review that you enter and also using a software that changes the ip address which eliminates your computer being tracked by google or any other site. That way you can avoid having the business penalized for submitting there own reviews

        That's awesome. Congrats.

It's amazing how one day you can question yourself and your abilities, and the next day you're walking away with a check. Life's a real roller coaster, isn't it?

I was wondering if you plan on outsourcing some of the work you'll be doing? It seems like this client will take up a bunch of your time utilizing all those ideas. You don't want to turn yourself into an employee of this guy. You want to be able to cointinue bringing in new clients.

Hello Mike, We're doing it man! We're making it happen. I know you are too and congrats to you as well sir. Life is definitely a rollercoaster man, I can't believe these last few weeks Mike, it's just been very scary, and exciting, and fun, and more emotions than I can put in writing. Which is why nobody pays me to write yet haha.
As of right now for this client I will be doing all the work myself because I need to keep all my profit, and when I start to get to the point I know I can't handle any more clients then I will start outsourcing it. I am making sure to put as much time that is needed to get the ball rolling on this, because I am trying to make this my source of income. It is my only source, which is why I can't afford to outsource it. I just made sure that the thing the business owner and I decided to do were things I could deliver on. When I have the money that affords me the ability to outsource then that is what I will do, but for now, I am going to do this all myself. I do have an amazing designer waiting for me to call her as soon as I can afford to hire her, she does amazing work and knows how to create mobile sites without a script, she can do it from scratch. And after I get a few more clients I will definitely be outsourcing so I can make my main focus getting more clients and letting others do the work. That's my long term goal, but right now I am just trying to meet my short term goals of getting some clients paying me monthly.

I am also in negotiation with 2 print shops to offer mobile webites as a new service to their existing clients and when we sell one we split the profit and I keep the monthly hosting fees. I give 3 free revisions, which I am going to be changing to two free revisions and anything after that I charge $95 an hour and that's just for the mobile sites.

The work load is definitely a concern of mine, and I will see what I can do, if I get a couple more checks then I will definitely be looking to outsource I'm sure, because you're right I don't want to be working too much.

Thank you Mike, I know you are having some success with this too and congratulations. I can't wait to see where this takes us. Good luck and please keep me posted.

            Ryan,

Nice work. Persistence really does pay off. Your first clients are your most important so I would not outsource the work if you are able to do it yourself. You want to provide these first few clients with the best experience possible and let them leave thinking they have taken advantage of you. Word will travel very quickly among their business friends if you do a stellar job for them and over deliver.

As you said, it's all about MAKING it happen.

very true and great advice... Its all about being persistent and never giving up.

I agree with you that the first few clients are the most important.. but that's why I think you SHOULD outsource the work to people with a proven track record... By building the links yourself and doing the work yourself, you are really putting yourself on the line... but by outsourcing straight away, you can instantly find someone that will get the work done for you.

Also if you outsource from the beginning then you will never get stuck in the mud with "too much work"... and you will consistently be able to bring in more clients and more profits much faster..

Im sure you can see the value of both approaches.

Personally I started with Will's advice, i did all my clients work for my first 5 clients.. and that's why im SO against it...... It slowed my business down dramatically, i couldn't even keep up, and two of the clients sites failed because of my incompetence..

however when i started outsourcing all those problems went away, so i highly recommend diving into the deep end with the outsourcing... its easy after the first time...

When I say outsourcing i dont even mean hiring a full time VA or anything like that... simply buying backlinks and joining high quality PR networks and things like that is a good way to start "outsourcing"

when you have a few clients, then you will probably ready to start hiring a full time VA, outsourcing the use of tools like senuke and other backlinking tools through a VPS, etc etc...

Josh, sure, I know exactly where you are coming from - whatever works best for you is exactly what you should do. Having said that there are a few reasons why I suggest doing the first few clients yourself:

                1) You don't want to 'test' your outsourcers on any of your clients - especially not your first few clients. These are the clients you want to deliver top notch service to and give them the personal touch. Obviously the aim is to treat all your clients like this but it's much easier to control if you are dealing with the clients directly.

                2) Whether or not you decide to outsource a part of your job, I always think it is important that you understand exactly what your outsourcer is doing. By doing the first few jobs yourself you will see exactly what is involved in the process and this will help you down the track in being able to answer any questions your clients might have.

                3) It takes a little time for you to train your outsourcers so they are producing the quality worthy of your paying clients. I see so many people start these types of ventures only to move on to something else a few weeks later. I wouldn't go through the hassles of setting up outsourcers until you have proven it is a business model that will work for you (make you money) AND you want to pursue.

Congrats on the great news, Ryan. I'm just starting out as well and had my first pitch today (I wasn't even planning to start until next week) and the potential client is really excited about the idea of a mobile site. We'll meet in the next week or so once I whip up some concepts for a mobile site and regular site. These are exciting times.

I agree with the above posters: your first few clients are extremely important as you will learn so much from dealing with them. Continued success Ryan and all reading this thread!

Ryan, I'll say this: good for you. On so many levels. One, to keep everyone posted as I know many appreciate and read it even if they don't comment.

And two, you've found the not-so-secret secret…action. You made it happen, period. No one else can do that part for you and you did. So good for you and congratulations.

    Keep it up.

    Hi Ryan,

Good job on getting your business off the ground and a great thread you have created. Also, thank you to everyone else who is contributing.

I am curious about your offer to host the mobile site. How are you making this work? This is a great idea for creating residual income.

One of the potential issues I see with this are owners reluctant to pay double hosting fees, if not up front perhaps at a later time. If they are not aware the mobile site could be added to their existing service and one of your competitors or just someone with the knowledge has a conversation with your client about your service and they realize they are needlessly paying double hosting fees, you may have a problem.

My thoughts: ask about their hosting service and find out about their hosting costs then offer your hosting discount and include a transfer of their existing site to your hosting service so they get the same (or cheaper) hosting fee and you have all their business on your server.

    Anyone else have a suggestion?

Your answers are great. You are truly a Warrior's friend. I'm sure you feel you get support and help from the forum, but really man, the value you are providing in this thread far exceeds anything that you're getting back.

Great work, great passion, and consequently you'll get great results.
I'd love to work together with ya on something one day

This would only be a problem IF Ryan were only offering hosting but my man Ryan is offering so much more on a monthly basis in his monthly fee this isn't a problem.

The one thing Ryan would need to do is make sure that he words his is monthly fee contract as 'Hosting and Maintenance' instead of just hosting if the client does host with his hosting server provider. Maintenance would be things like list building, coupon management, menu updates, customer surveys, etc.

This way he is bundling in far more services than a normal hosting company does and can justify his Hosting and Maintenance plan without worry or confusion on the part of his clients.

    Hi Ryan,

I've found this thread a little late, but I've been cheering for you all the way. Reading and watching your progress unfold has been pretty cool. I tell ya', the warrior forum needs its own tv reality show except instead of walking away with all sorts of drama like the typical reality show does, viewers would be able to learn and earn after tuning in.

I really like your spirit. You definitely seem to have the stuff successful people are made of.

All the best and continued success to you.

I will be responding to everything soon. I had to take a hiatus for a few days to see the family. But I will be updating everyone soon. Tomorrow I have to appointments in Arizona. So I will let you know. I will respond to pms shortly as well, I haven't reached the mark yet but I am about 3 posts away after this one.

    bryson:
I will explain both sides of the issue to them and let them decide on what it is they want, The client I am working with now needs a new website too, something better for seo and to help his online presence. The message and layout of the site is very scrambled. I need to simplify it for the visitor and help him get a clearer message to portray on his website. I mean it really is not a good website, so after completing this service month for him, I am going to try and let him know why he needs a new site and help with conveying his message to visitors better so he can capitalize on the future visitors.

Anyways, I always just explain to the business person what obstacles we have to go over and tell him both sides of the coin. I haven't really though about this too in depth, but mojo kind of answered that question really well I think. I don't even focus on that and I don't focus on that problem. Thank you for preparing me for it, but honestly I'm not worried about it. I foresee offering clients a complete marketing makeover or something that works in unison with a great system they already have. It just depends on the clients. But if this were to come up i would probably not make a big deal of it with the client. I am going for the monthly hosting and/or maintenance fee, but this is just to get me in the door to offer the client a complete online makeover. Something that is going to put there image so far above there competition and that will set them up for the future and for where technology is taking us. It's really about focusing on the things they need in place, and if the businesses don't have a big budget, then I offer them a few services at a time. Stuff to get them started, and once they see the results from that and start getting more customers then I plan to build upon it. My main focus is to build them a killer online presence. Something that has there name and there brand everywhere, social media, google places, authority review sites, blogs, articles, email marketing, youtube channel, in house review generation, press releases, article marketing, qr codes, interactive media, etc. and have it all tied together. And your list of services for a client can go on and on and on! There are so many services to offer that it's insane, and if you can get a client, do a great job and increase there bottom line, you can continue to work with the client for a long time, and when you recommend something and they are making money as a result of what you do, then of course they are going to want to keep you and continue to pay you. At least I think. Mobile websites are an amazing way to get the client excited, but it's really about being a complete marketer for me, and expanding knowledge, learning as much as I can to be able to offer these business owners effective services for all Eternity!!! haha. That eternity thing was just fluff, but I hope I am explaining my idea well enough.

This is mobile marketing forum so I will not get too off topic, just a little rant, sorry.

Warren Tibbots: lets do it man! anytime. And thank you so much for saying those things, I appreciate it very much.

    Sonic: Thank you as well!

    Trumpador: You as well.
    Thank you

mojo: Thanks a lot man and I totally agree with that very much about the reality show. I really wish I found the warrior forum when I was in high school or earlier in college, I would have dropped out immediately and started working on stuff. Either way, I am glad I found it. What a sweet ass place.

Yes sir, for my current client I have finished the articles and am about to put them on his site, the reviews are coming along as well. I finished his mobile site and completed the mobile forwarding so the site will redirect for mobile devices. That's going well.

The coffee shop is still in process of approval from corporate office in Vienna. But I spoke with the president and she said that things are about to complete on that end.

I made a sample mobile site and have been doing walk-ins today. My very first walk in was a coffee shop, she said she did not want a complete mobile site but wanted me to set up a one page site with a qr code that she can put on some of her promotional materials. I am having stickers printed out to put on her coffee bags and to put on her front window. I charged her $50 and finished the site while drinking my coffee in the shop. Now I just have to get the prints done which I will do at home and buy some lamination to put it in. I got the details for the site all right there and it was as easy as pie. She then gave me 10 referrals of businesses that were within walking distance. I walked into every businesses and showed my sample. This was all within 2 hours so $25 an hour for the day not too bad. I generated some interest and have a few of those referrals as prospective business now. 3 businesses owners gave me there business cards and asked me to create a sample for them, so I will be doing that and following up with them tomorrow.

The memorial website thing is in process, I've contacted 5 so far and they will be offering it as a service. Next week I will be calling funeral homes and putting all of my attention to contacting as many as I possibly can and setting up deals with them.

Other than that, I am still trying to get more clients, and nothing else has really gone on. I am working on my website and going to have some business cards printed soon with a qr code.

I have also contacted a few hotels about mobile directories, haven't put too much time into it, but the two that I talked to said they already had a contract with someone already doing that, but that doesn't mean there aren't any that still have not set this up.

I just put this into each of the pages, I haven't done it myself yet, but I send it to my client's web people.

            <script type="text/javascript">

            document.location = "mobile_url";
            }
            //-->
            </script>

If they want it uploaded to there server that's a different story. I haven't done it yet, but I'm sure you can find the answer on google or in the forums.

No thank you sir. I still get a kick reading your story.motivation comes from anywhere I guess.

By the, another source of leads for you (and something I'm in the process of) is to partner with a charity campaign. Look at a charity that you believe in and who they are going to reach, their current sponsors etc. offer your services for free. You should pick up some great leads, perhaps some potential partnerships with the larger sponsors and most importantly, you'd be helping out a great cause.

Good luck and keep it up

Oh and that reminds me for some reason, I do improv and I am going to talk to the owner of the improv company if I can do a class with the performers and training center students to teach them marketing and promotions for there acting careers and performance troups. I will show them how mobile websites and qr codes can help them promote themselves by sending people to there mobile page via qr code and they can put it on all of there flyers. On the pages they can promote themselves and any shows that they have coming up or performances.

On iPhone so will be quick. I can give you more detail next time I'm on my iMac/MacBook Air

When I go to networking sessions/seminars I always look for the bigger guys who are looking for specialists. These are you tier 1 & 2 type of organisations. Always make good connections with their Business Decelopement people.

I'll give you a current example next time but there are always large pies to be eaten and even the big sharks can't finish everything. They always want the largest pies on offer and will typically consume the most but there will be crumbs. You should go for those.

Eat enough crumbs and you get bigger. Soon you'll be hiring people and forming your own joint ventures. Etc

    Hey Ryan,

Very exciting thread you have here.

A few tips that I'd like to offer.

    1. Niche your services

You will find this advice in many places at WF. People pay more for a Specialist. You may notice how beneficial it is to create a niche for the services you offer AND for the types of clients you target.

Quentin also gives this advice on one of his tutorials and he quoted someone else that gave this same advice. Be the Specialist and demand more. You may even find that some niches only take you serious if you charge more.

I am working a referral deal with a large web design firm that only does sites for Utility Companies. Their minimum fee for a site is $20K. I am working to get referrals for those that can't meet that minimum, but can still pay between $6K - $12K for a site.

This firm chose a niche and is making a killing.

    2. Go after High Ticket niches

Restaurants and Coffee shops are cool, but it takes a lot for them to see a ROI from your services. You would need to drive in tons of traffic to make it worth their while.

On the other hand, High Ticket niches (think Attorneys, Cosmetic Surgeons, etc.) only need a couple of clients from your efforts to see how much they need your service.

These types of clients usually are already spending a bundle on advertising (really important) and have plenty of money. You can show your value quickly and keep these clients longer.

    3. Provide a USP

You need to have something different about your service. Something that no one else in your area offers.

I do Mobile Websites as a lead-in. They get the Mobile Website designed for Free (w/ QR Code) and pay for hosting/maintenance monthly. No up-front risk.

Included in the Package is a 30-day trial of SMS Marketing to get them hooked on it.

Shortly after that, I come with an upsell to a Mobile App. I convert their Mobile Site into an Android & iPhone app with a twist so they can offer certain promos exclusively to app users.

Now, they can send Alerts/Push Campaigns to app users (for a nominal fee) which are less expensive that SMS Texts.

Anyway, I wish you the best! We are all still learning and your posts are truly inspiration to us all.

Ok,am now on iPad so it should be better. Hopefully autocorrect becomes my friend.

Re. Partnering, niac7 touched on it a little. Some of the larger guys can and will only take on projects that meet their minimum. Anything less than that, and it's not cost efficient for them to go after. So as nial7 pointed out, a good relationship with them will see some referrals come through to you, the smaller guy.

Having said that, the bdms at the bigger places will typically keep the relationship.

In the past, I've been doing the JV deal as the biggest fish (I used to work for a very large corp) trolling through supplier, recruiters etc to assemble a good JV entity. This allowed our company to prime the large contracts with a whole bunch of suppliers and sole traders to help win the contracts. Now these contracts were large, typically in tens of millions to early hundreds of millions of dollars worth. This is how the big corporations play. There is a prime (corporations worth billions), then a whole chain of suppliers, right down to specialists. Who were involved and what the JV structure was depended on the opportunity at hand.

Now my point is, I'm now going through this from the other way as I know that this is how it's done. No one org, regardless of size, can do everything. So partnering up with businesses up the food chain is a way to get into the "boys club" so to speak.

Sure, it might be scraps at first, but that's how you get big.

So, I know what you are thinking. Your probably thinking that you couldn't ever deal with the big end of town, but trust me, partner with the right businesses, get to know the major players in your town/state and you'll get there. Present yourself as the expert at these shindigs and they'll lap you up. Few of these guys have a clue what mobile means to their corporation and the rest of the planet.

When you successfully build your relationships with the right bdms, they'll be contacting you as a sole contractor at first, but eventually it will be a sub organization.

Mobile, panda etc now means that the game is somewhat level again and all of us have an opportunity to ride this wave and get big (if you want to).

Restaurants etc are great to focus on, build your cred but ultimately, you will find that you will need to upgrade your customers. The bigger you get the more overheads so there will come a time that you reject customers because their budget is too small.

Anyway, I can't send PMs but I think I can receive them so if you have other more private questions, feel free to PM.

I have found when approaching business owners with the mobile website offer you need to make it clear that your sites are different because....
    1. They can be created to look and feel very close to the customers original site
    2. You have a main advantage over your competition (web designers), your marketing background and attention to customer service. Like you said Ryan - over deliver.

    Great keep it up :-)

One of my first meetings from about 2 months closed finally. We've been in touch about 10 times. I was going to give up on him, but I decided one call back would do. And he said he was ready, he just got so busy that it wasn't on his mind. So finally I got him and he is excited about the website. He payed me $399 up front plus $30 a month hosting, and $50 an hour for any updates that he wants.

We also discussed other services, but this guy is so busy with everything and very hard to get in touch with I can kind of tell he will be a pain to do any work for in the future. i won't keep my mind closed to the idea of it, but I am not going to chase him around my whole life that's for sure. So the way I will do this is just follow up in a month find out how he likes the site and if anyone is saying anything about the mobile site then I will try and set a meeting to get him more business.

Other than that, I am still plugging away, I so far have 5 clients for mobile sites, and 2 for internet marketing. I really want to get into that residual so I will be focusing on making that happen, because I want to be getting paid enough residual by the time I'm 30 to where I can just hire other people to do the selling and work for me and I can just sit back, run the biz and collect.

Anyways, cold calling has been a bit of a difficult thing lately, I am trying to implement some of trumpado and niac7's ideas of going for the bigger customers that are spending money. Continuing to do what works which is cold calling and trying new strategies to scale things up a bit. So far cold calling has been the most successful. It's all about filling the pipeline. I got people calling me back from voice mails from over a month ago. I am fixing an ecoomerce site for this guy that called me today for $500 bucks. And I partnered up with some web designers and facebook fan page designers to offer a mobile site to there existing customers. Things are on the up and up. I am finding a lot of new ways to get clients and you can too, but honestly the best strategy for me personally has been getting on the phones and talking to people. Small businesses with a personal voice mail after hours, sending emails, and cold calling. If you make it a point to do a number of these every single day and fill the pipeline. You will get calls back.

Thank you all for everything you say and all of the support. I've been inactive here do to trying to get out there and make money, but I am going to try and be on here more often. There is so much cool stuff being posted up on the forums that I can always take and try out to see if it works. So I just want to keep trying new things. I can really see this going somewhere. I hope everyone else feels the same way. There is business out there if you want it. AND MONEY TO BE MADE. Lots of it, you just have to find the diamonds in the rough. One piece of advice that I am consistently trying to take is going after the people spending money.

Oh that reminds me, I have been taking the numbers off of billboards when driving on the freeway, and websites, and calling those businesses that advertise on a billboard, but don't have a mobile site. Along with newspaper ads, paper click ads, etc. (people spending money) I am in negotiation with a jewelry store to do a mobile marketing plan and social media integration to maximize on there offline advertising and tie everything together. It's amazing how much money some people spend on things and how ineffective those things are for them. I see how all the offline advertising and internet marketing can all be tied together to create an effective system. And god these people really do need help because they are wasting so much money right now. If they could just tie everything together and make a system out of it they could have such a better ROI. Lucky for us we have that system and can set it up for them. And really help them out.

    Good luck!

Thanks again and Again and AGAIN

I just want to add a little something for everyone.

As I've been doing this I have started to see a lot of things wrong with peoples marketing, and I am starting to realize that so many businesses really don't have things in order. It seems like a lot of people are really just scrambling and fumbling around with there advertising and marketing efforts. And it tells me that they really don't know how much business they are losing because of it, and money they are wasting to do it. If they are going to spend money on advertising it's important for them to have the right system in place so that customers can find them in every possible way, and it's extremely important for that system to be organized and in place so that when a customer does find them everything will be set up.

I am going to rough this out in my writing because my thoughts are a bit scrambled on this, but I hope you can get my concept and understand the vision I have on this.

The system I am talking about is taking all of the tools that the internet gives us and tying them all together for businesses. So that when a business does decide to put that advertising out there they can have the best possible system in place for when a customer decides to take action on an advertisement.

For example, I found the jewelry store on a billboard. I visited the website on my mobile phone, and there was no mobile website (which I noted). I visited the website on my computer and noticed they had no facebook page tied in, no twitter, and no social media whatsoever (which I noted). I then went to take a look at there Alexa rating and noticed that they aren't ranking very well in the search engines and took note of what keywords they were ranking for and what percentage of search engine traffic they were getting from those keyword and did some research to find out who was ranking higher then them. I also looked at their google places page and sought to find out how many free review sites they have signed up with (google places, citysearch, merchant circle, etc.)( Which I noted). There are a lot of them, and it can really help there business to sign up for every single one they can find. I have over 20 that I know of and that I am signing up my client for. Also I take a look at there reviews to see how many they have and if they are positive or negative. I then do some keyword research to find out what kind of keywords they need to rank for and how competitive those keywords are. And this knowledge is the ammo I take into the meeting and that I take into my cold call.

This jewelry store didn't have a system set up, they need so much help and they need something that is going to be user friendly for the customers. So that when a customer comes to the website they can also look at a facebook page, twitter, redirect to a mobile site if they are on a mobile phone. So that they can take a look at some reviews and see what other people are saying, and if they have bad reviews they need to get them fixed and all of this is where we come in. I know, I know I am preaching to the quire, but I am getting it finally. It's the big picture. We really are helping businesses by offering this stuff, because it's a sin for them to go out there and spend money on advertising when what they have in place is incomplete. They need to set up a complete marketing system and that's what's important, and that's where we come in. So that when they do put an ad out everything will be organized and they can put there best foot forward to make the best first impression possible.

Most businesses owners I've talked to thus far really don't have a clue, not to bash on them, but honestly they are wasting so much money. I am sure that a lot of the advertising they do works, but it still doesn't mean that they have every possible tool to help them in place. Every business is missing something and it is our job as internet marketers and mobile marketers to find out what that is, and educate them. Like we need to put our best foot forward in business so do they and if they are not then they are wasting money, and we can help them.

I hope this post isn't too redundant. But I just wanted to share my thoughts and see what others have to say about it.

      TO THE SYSTEM.

Just curious - do you do this for EVERY possible client? I'm sure you can get the research down to a short period of time, but it seems like a lot to do if I found say, 20 or 30 possible clients!

Also, in some of your other posts, it seems like mobile sites are not very prominent in your sales pitch. Do you mention the mobile site FIRST then add on stuff after that (SMS, social media, etc)?

I'm just trying to figure out the best way to approach possible clients without sounding like every other salesman that call them!!

        Thanks...

I normally do this before a meeting, i did do the extra research for the jeweler. But that was while I was discovering something. I was teaching myself how to analyze a business to see how they are doing in there marketing and what they are missing.

But I don't do this every time before I cold call them. You're right that could be a big waste of time haha. Sorry for the confusion.

I do however do it before every single meeting I have. Because I want to go into the meeting to help the client. They will appreciate you for it. If you can give them all that free information that they can implement on there own, they will be very appreciative. And most times they are too busy to do it themselves, but what you're doing by making sure and taking all this information into a meeting, is positioning yourself as the expert. And the more you know about there business, and the more you know about different things they can be doing to help get more customers, the more they will trust you, and know you know what you are talking about. It's a way to tell them about your services. I have proven this method to work, and you open up the potential for them to hire you, and if you overwhelm them with a bunch of free info then most of the time they will be to busy.

When I cold call I focus on calling to offer businesses what they are missing and how I can get them more customers if they would be willing to let me sit with them in a meeting and show them. I do sell mobile website, and if that is what I set up the meeting for then that is the first thing I show them. I started out selling mobile websites, but now I sell a lot more than that.

I set up meeting for different things.
Right now my foot in the door products are
          mobile website
          sms text messaging

These are foot in the door things I use to get a meeting with the prospect.
I show them how either SMS works or Show them the mobile website I made for them. After I sell them on it I start asking them questions about there marketing and what kind of results they are getting.

I use jobless dad revisited interview questions. It's in the offline discussion forum. There is a link to it somewhere in this thread.

This gets them spilling the beans on everything they are doing for advertising and how much money they are spending. Whether or not they are tracking the results, etc.
Then I just go into educating them based off of there answers they gave.
I tell them to get a pen and paper handy so they can take notes on everything I am about to show them.

By the time I have finished with this method I have had more money than just selling the mobile website a total of two times haha. Not that many, but keep in mind I started this **** fairly recently. In this approach I've noticed that it really gets them on your side and shows them that you know your ****. I've made friends with both of them. One of my clients has invited me to a concert, and wants to go see me perform improv. And most everyone I've talked to is still in touch with me, so even if they aren't clients now, maybe they will be in the future. Thing is I am building some great relationships with some well to do people and they can definitely help me if they want to in the future. Either way this my method and it is working. I changed a few things up and have been getting more meeting as well.

Just read what John has to say a few posts above this one and I'm telling you it worked wonders on getting meeting.

Hey Ryan, a couple of great posts there. Sounds like it's all coming together for you.

I know that it's still fairly early days, and you have some clients who are taking their time but have you had any referals from anyone yet?

It's great to see you scouting for more business in new ways though and sharing that with us here.

And your second post is what this is all about. The mobile website is the "foot in the door" to cement the fact you are the go to guy for their marketing. It's a great idea to go into a "big business" (the one spending all the money on billboard advertising) and offering the complete package of marketing to tie things up for them.

      Thanks Jtoney

I have had a few referrals yes. The coffee shop owner referred me to 6 businesses right in the same area. I got 3 clients out of it. And I got one referral for a guy that owns 9 domino's pizza franchises. I am going to get ahold of him at the beginning of next week, after I fully analyze his business and see what all the things are that I can find that he needs help on.

I am just looking for businesses spending money on advertising that may be losing money if they don't have a mobile site or everything else in place. Just kind of analyzing what their marketing set up looks like to see if they are losing money by sending people to something incomplete.

I have been collecting all types of advertising and following links on the ads and checking out what each business is missing. Now I am just trying to figure out a way to offer more than just mobile sites. I want to figure out how to offer a complete package and have a mobile site just be one part of many other services. So far the best thing that's worked for me though is calling about mobile sites. But I am working out the kinks.

I see that you took some action as well.

      Have you sold anything?

Ryan I might start trying to close these over the phone...OR, on another hand, keep doing appointments, BUT I would imagine your list building process is causing you to not get as many dials per hour... It may be easier to just assume they dont have one, and keep using a similar pitch to what you are using, and choose your list based on a different demographic than those you find with no mobile website.

Chances are that ALOT of people dont have mobile websites, and you may not have to target that demographic as closely as you are... In other words...if most of your calls are focused on large corporations or chains... You wont get to talk to many decision makers, even though you are talking to people who you knew ahead of time didnt have a mobile site.. I would focus my list on companies with ten employees or less and go for a broader market; smaller business owners, the kind who are always five feet away from the phone, and can make a decision the second they get excited and pull the corporate checkbook out of their back pocket.

You will talk to more decision makers with less targetting on the "no mobile site" aspect, which may be alot more effective than talking to people who you have that inside knowledge on ahead of time...but who cant make a decision to write a check.

Just the fact that you are talking to business owners who can make decisions can increase your chances for a sale MORE than targeting people who have no mobile site, but arent able to make decisions.

$350 is $350 whether it comes from joes diner or the trump tower. I would do the trump towers for free and use it to tell joes diner that I have some of the most prestigious clientele in Chicago personally, and that I could give him the same treatment more affordable than he might expect.

The trump tower is worth more than $350, but you will never get to a decision maker...Find someone who can authorize you to do it for free that way you can use it as leverage to make more sales with smaller businesses.

Have I been redundant enough? lol

Lets do it again, because repetition is mastery, and something that works theoretically doesnt always work in reality very efficiently, although theoretically speaking your approach is amazing... Still the value of that laser targetted prospect diminishes with the time and energy it takes to get a decision...:

Targeting is good, you are targeting people with no mobile site... But its not getting you through to enough business owners to be worth its weight as far as the laser targeting.

You may be more productive to target decision makers, ie; independent business owners...whether or not you have that pre call knowledge... and still run into a ton of people with no mobile site who are able to give you a decision on the spot. If an indy biz owner is excited , he just BUYS- no board meetings or wasted trips.

Fascinating journey here, many kudo's. Bravo..

Thank you John, I implemented your advice and have been getting a way better response. With the extra research on the businesses that are smaller I have been getting ahold of a lot of "check writers" I picked up a consumer resources guide at my local market and it's published by the BBB. They have a listing of literally hundreds of small businesses. I have been calling through this paper and getting ahold of several owners and decisions makers. So thank you for helping my business. I set up 3 appointments today because of you. And I wanted to thank you. I know other people have made mention of going for lower hanging fruit and I want to thank everyone for the contribution.

      Go for the small businesses!!!

For a regular website? I charge $350 for 5 page standard website.
If they want me to do more I charge $50 a page, and if I have to add any forms to it or pay someone to do anything complicated I play that by ear.

For mobile websites I charge $350 - $397 plus $20 a month hosting fees to host on my server. If they pay for the upfront hosting for the entire year I take $30 off the entire fee for the year.

If I upload to there server I charge $500. And if they want me to do any updates to it I charge $50 to $80 an hour. But first before I charge the hourly fee I'll offer them a $20 monthly maintenance fee that will cover anything I do in the future.

Thank you Ryan , very good information.

I also looked at their google places page and sought to find out how many free review sites they have signed up with (google places, citysearch, merchant circle, etc.)( Which I noted). There are a lot of them, and it can really help there business to sign up for every single one they can find. I have over 20 that I know of and that I am signing up my client for
Can you share those review sites with us.

    thanks

Congratulations to everyone who is doing really well. I really want to say thanks to all those who put their ideas and methods down becuase to be honest, without that, I would not be doing as well as I am in mobile marketing either. I work at home online and I am not able to setup offline meetings but I have started doing webinars with open discussion and it started extremely slow and did not jump off like I wanted it to, but I have been doing follow up webinars to owners and decision makers and I find that there are businesses returning to my webinars and then asking questions. I have not had as much success as others, but I have been having some really great success on my own rating scale, and I have had a couple of upsells. I hope to develop some better techniques with this since I am still new at this type of relationship development, and maybe figure out how to make this less SELL, and more INFORM, so that there is more conversation going on.

      I just googled it.

I just had another appointment today and made another sale. I sold the mobile website for $350 plus $20 a month under contract. I have two more meeting next week and I am trying to fill up the end of the week as well.

      So far I have
6 mobile website clients and 2 of those 6 I am doing marketing for and making a monthly income of $700.

I have to follow-up and do some upsells to my clients next week before thanksgiving, and still stacking up the appointments.

The clients that I am marketing for are reporting back with nothing but happiness, which was my biggest concern, because I want to do an awesome job. I did it on my own too. Which caused me to have to work a lot more, but I got to pocket every cent so it works out, util I can scale things up more and hire some folks.

Quitting my job about two months ago without knowing whether or not I was going to make this work, although I wouldn't recommend it to anyone is turning out to be the best decision of my life, given that I have been able to put every ounce of my focus into building this. I learned how to fish and now I can eat for a lifetime. Haha sorry I'm just being silly, and I'm super excited. I hope people are having success.

I have learned so much and as I know that this is the place I literally learned everything I know about making money for myself, I owe it to everyone on this forum. This has been the best experience of my life in these last 3-4 months. I honestly don't know how long it's been exactly since I started, but man I've have learned so darn much.

My method of making money with business consulting is really working, and if anyone has any questions I would love to help...
Focus on the business that are spending money on advertising.
Focus on the small businesses when you are getting started.
After you set up a meeting, do your homework and find out what people are doing in there marketing to see what they need to improve on.
      Then you can educate them.

I did my homework on my new client today and found the holes in her marketing, and I just told her what she needs to do and she said she's too busy, so I offered to do it. She was reluctant to do it at first, but I asked her what type of marketing she was doing, and I found out that she is paying a company $99 a month to optimize and maintain her google places listing and she hasn't seen any results, it's been 4 months. So I told her to "FIRE THEM". I told her I would do it for free for 1 month if she bought the mobile website and hosting from me. Then after I prove to her that I can get her more customers, and improve her google places she can decide whether or not she wants to pay me $50 a month to maintain it. And there was so many other things she is doing that's costing her money that aren't working, so she is having me take a look at everything to let her know how she can save more money and get better results. The pore lady is a "sucker" and not to offend her, but she really does buy everything from everyone, so I am really excited to help her because she is spending too much money from her retirement income to run her business, and the people she is paying aren't even getting her results. I was disgusted with this. She isn't even breaking even.

Anyways, my goal with her to to get rid of all those companies that she is paying, so she can pay me to get her actual results. MORE CUSTOMERS and Return Customers.

      Sorry for the rant.

I hope that other people are seeing some results.

      Thanks for reading.

Ryan, this is brilliant and inspiring stuff!! I'm having issues staying focussed and treating this like an actual job and this week has been a bit too lax! But I am also getting everything set in place to look at professional as possible. I know a lot of people have a more gung ho approach and wing it, but I like to try to be pepared and want to do things right from the beginning. I've got so many materials for the whole sales process, I just need to get them all finished off into my own branding and getting hitting the phones, e-mails and streets!!

To be financially secure and work as your own boss in something you enjoy doing really is the ultimate dream!! This alone should be my motivation, and everyone else's on here.

      Hi,
I like these kind of threads tracking a process over longer time. The results are not the most important detail of those threads, although, Ryan is to be congratulated for his efforts and his success. This isn't only inspiring but has my full respect.

@JToneyUK: I wanted to ask You, if You think, that when You like to being perfectly prepared for everything, that this will help Youn in sales?

Just look at the beginning of this thread. Ryan was in the topic for some days and just started out (maybe, because he urgently neede to, but that is not bad) and had a success.
Even if he wouldnt have been successful, he would have realized most soon.
Because when You trap into Your field You will soon realize what to make better. This is an old rule, to start and perfectionize later.
I can tell You by ten years of sales experience, in different fields and channels.
And it has been proven well, to start right after You have the idea and the bare basics at place. Extensive preparation is not the thing which makes You sucessfull in sales. Go out tomorrow and meet up people.
      My recommendation.

      Hope that helps.

And Ryan. I am very keen on reading more of You.
      Cheers.

Hi Andre, you are quite right people have had immediate success just by getting out there and taking action. I guess I am just more methodical. However I have been having set-backs and I am just itching to get out and make this work. SO that being said, I am going to start my assault at the end of the week regardless of where I am upto with the foundations of my brand.

This can actually be a great way to get your foot in the door. Just contact some businesses and ask if you can interview them for your website in return for exposure.

As you are interviewing them you are going to find out all the pains and struggles of that business.

"Hi, my name is Ryan Padilla, I am a local business owner in town and I found you on my mobile phone and noticed you don't have a mobile ready website. I would like to create a sample mobile site of your website and come in and show it to you. (How is this day)(at this time)?"

    This is a superb opener.

The strategy of doing a mobile mockup is similar to giving them results-in-advance as they are able to see the somewhat-finished product before purchasing which gives you a leg up on most sales calls where the client has to rely on only the word of the salesman.

Yes, this is a great door opener, because he puts himself on the same level as the person being coldcalled.

I am going one step further with my mobile system: I give a basic mobile website away for free and then sell up.

        Yes that's what I've noticed.

Once I position myself on the same level as the person I am talking to the results of getting appointments has definitely gone up for me.

It really is easy to get through the phone calls this way and take the emotion out of it for me.

If they say no then I just okay them and move on to the next one

There are honestly other things you could say if you just focus on putting them on the same level and saying something simple.

"Hi decision maker, My name is Ryan and I am a local mobile web and applications developer.
I am trying to let people know about my services and hopefully find some interest in what I have to offer. I noticed that you don't have a mobile website for your company and was wondering if you had given this any thought?"

Everyone that I called was very nice and the only reason I didn't get more appointments is because I only talked to two owners. So thus far in talking to the actual person that makes the decisions I am at a 100% appointment rate.

In both appointments I've set they both asked me more questions and asked why there website wasn't good enough on a mobile device. One of them even said but my website doesn't have flash so it works fine. Which told me that he already new that flash doesn't work on phones and it opened up the conversation for me to educate him on why it's important to have a mobile website. So I gave him some brief bullet points and said this would really be better if we could sit down and I could physically show you how this works. Will tomorrow afternoon at 12 work for you?
        YES

        Just ask for the appointment!

Also I've noticed that when I started using mobile web and application developer as my business people have been more receptive, but that's only measuring todays calling so I might be speeking too soon. But people seem to understand that mobile web and mobile applications are important. Business owners are becoming more and more aware of how important this is right now, so it really is the time to position youself by calling them and offering it to people that have it on there mind. It's just a matter of weeding through everyone and finding the golden nuggets.

This has been a variation of the script I use and it has upped my appointments in this day alone. I have called 15 businesses and made two appointments. Talk about a lazy ass I am haha. Just think what I could have done if I called 100 businesses.

        That's my goal tomorrow.
