QR Codes Versus NFC ?
Share on:

Hi,

Today they launched a trial with NFC payments in the largest supermarket chain here.

I was just wondering: Will qrcodes become obsolete because of the upcoming NFC wave ?

What do you think ?

I would like to see the results of the trial with NFC, but for me the advantage of QR codes is the cheaper price and easier application. NFC does however have a much higher security level.

I think this will be a long and interesting road....

Would you happen to have a link to the story?
IMHO, what sets the 2 apart is NFC is more costly like RFID, and also a question of proximity, NFC is only a few cm, whereas QR can be done freely and communicate to a more massive consumer base from a further distance.
QR codes just need a reader - NFC requires a chip.

@KCNL below - true, but the phone has a chip, and the tag is similar to an RFID tag, so there may still be a physical application to the product, unlike a printed code.

I think there is room for both applications.

Well it gets even more exciting because they use stickers instead of chips..
And i believe that the costs of NFC are decreasing by the minute, but ofcourse qr codes are free, if you don`t buy them from one of us that is, hehe

Here is the link to the story: Dutch bank and supermarket test NFC payments
