Cell phones have been around for a long time now, they keep getting better and better in therms of efficiency and smartness, they're like small computers we carry in our pockets everyday, they're not just cell phones anymore. Here's a billion dollar potential money making strategy here. Invent a better battery that will last longer than half a day  Any genius out there ready to made a fortune? Invent a longer life spam battery. Am I the only one who thinks about this??

I was just thinking the same thing the other day. Mobile devices seem to be improving exponentially in terms of processing power but batteries only marginally.

I guess this is the trillion dollar question. Thankfully the industry is huge and advancements are constantly being made in the lithium ion industry. Hopefully we will see the day when we will only have to charge our cell phone a couple times a month and our electric vehicles once a week.

The iPhone 4 battery life was a big improvement over the 3GS in many tests but also new features like Facetime drain the battery quickly.

It sounds like you have an Android with LTE or Wimax. I had an Android before with Wimax and had to return it because the battery wouldn't last a whole day.

LOL And still half a battery... thing rarely gets used but still... that's pretty impressive!!! lol

Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature!

I know that scientists are doing continuous research in trying to improve battery life. The current lithium ion technology is limited by the material that goes in it (I forgot exactly what metal it was) but I've read a few months ago that they might have found a way to improve it significantly. It probably is being tested and will come out sometime.

Yes flyinghammers that's what I have..an Android, I have found that when I clear all the background running, the battery lasts longer, but still not long enough to my liking
Someone could make serious money with a better life spam battery.

Yes PatrickC I have heard about this too last year, I think they mentioned batteries for laptops that would last very very long..not days but months..maybe they're the same people who develop the "electric car" -takes forever to market..lol

I'm glad you brought this up. I got a brand new great phone, I love it, but the battery is going to be useless. No life to it all. I may even return the phone for a different model.
As others mentioned, from what i understand there are some severe limits to the technology. We need a 'Steve Jobs of Batteries'!

Two things:

1. I actually saw a documentary or something similar on wireless power and they believe it possible and we will see it one day. It's something they are already testing. Imagine sitting at home and just like your phone picks up the wireless internet connection it also picks up the wireless power - no batteries needed. Imagine being able to get rid of all those ugly power cords hanging out the back of your TV and PC.

I'm not sure exactly how it's even possible or how it can be safe but that's for them to figure out, right?!

2. Simple things like this often get overlooked because most of us just take them as the norm and don't think twice about it. One thing I can't believe, with all the HUGE advancements in computers over the last 10 years, we still have to wait 2 minutes for our computers to boot up when we switch them on. Imagine how much better it would be if you could switch a computer on almost as instantly as a television. One of the main reasons I always just 'Sleep' my computer as opposed to shutting it down is because I don't want to sit through the few minutes it takes to load up.

I do believe that batteries have maybe improved more than we think. It's just that the others aspects of phones have improved even more greatly, and most of those advances have led to applications which use up a lot of power. This means that there are simply more demands made of batteries.

Tesla began experimenting with wireless power transmission in the late 1800's. Unfortunately he died shortly after starting these experiments and no one else continued his work. Its cool to hear its being worked on again.

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

Will, get a solid-state drive (SSD) installed... and hang on to your hat!

They're not cheap but they're very fast.

In my opinion, battery technology has not caught up with the mobile phone technology eg iphones etc. That is, newer, fancier smart phone requires a lot more power to run compared to older phones. Therefore it will no doubt drain the battery life a lot quicker. To put it quite simply, battery technology = old, phone technology = new

True..what you r e saying has some truth to it..but it seems no one pays attention to batteries life spam, the compabillity of the batteries should match with the power consumption of newer phones.

I do pay attention... you keep on spelling it wrong as "battery life spaM" in all your posts here.

Anyways, there was an article few months back that said in a 3 year time frame consumers would get better Li-On batteries that charge about 10 times faster, hold about 10 times more charge, and survive about 10 times more charging cycles Well I guess those batteries will cost 10 times more as well, just to keep up with other specs lol

Let's get serious. They could make batteries that are much better than they are right now. The reason they don't is the exact same reason the pentium 1 came out first, then the Pentium 2, 3, 4 and whatever it's up to now. If you bring out the best technology right away then you have nowhere else to go. They need to be very gradual in the release of technology otherwise they bottom out and they can't sell bigger and better models of things each and every year.
