How did I create a $5k monthly income in exactly 9 days, and why am I sharing this??? Greetings, Warriors It's been a while since I've created or replied to a thread, but I've kept my eyes on the good ol' warrior forum closely enough to stay in the know per se. Anyway, as the title says. Yes, I recently created a $5k per month income stream by way of local marketing. This is not some precursor to sell you something now or later for that matter. I don't create products in the IM space, so worry not about being pitched. I simply wanted to share this story for 2 reasons. The first as a caveat, and the second as a means of direction and inspiration. Now, before I share the goodies, I just want you guys to know this. I've been marketing online since 04, and I do have experience. I fraternize with some of the most prominent, well respected marketers many of you know. I don't name drop, so don't ask. I say this because I don't want to mislead you into thinking I sprouted out of nowhere and magically created this additional $5k monthly income, and I'm some whiz kid with all the answers. NO, it didn't happen that way. It took 9 days after the 7 long years of learning how to become an effective communicator had taken shape. It's a result of what I call "blocking my skills", and it's a method I've used all these years I learned from a true marketer indeed back when I first started, the late great Corey Rudl. Basically, what that means is. I didn't jump from one technique to the next because it seemed to work so great for somebody else. I didn't care about who made $10k in a day, because of this all new method of acquiring customers, or purloining somebody elses traffic, etc. What I did was learn the essential business skills I knew would forever aid me in every facet of business no matter how shiny the object being dangled in front of me was. Here's the point of this thread, warriors. I made sure I learned the principles of communication and selling first. I built upon my skills in blocks at a time. What do I mean? I didn't look left, right, or any other way for 30 to 60 days sometimes at anything but effective communication. Once I'd felt comfortable and confident in learning that segment of business essentials. I'd stack that block in my mental utility shed for later application. Then I'd move onto the specifics as to what ever it was I'd be engaging in. Whether it be speaking at a conference of an audience filled with financial sharks or, selling high end coaching memberships, donating significant money to a campaign/charity, etc. No matter what it was. I would focus on the essentials needed to totally be the absolute best communicator in that particular endeavor. Inevitably, doing such practices over the past several years has allowed me to pretty much go into any venture and garner results so many struggle with. And boy let me tell you...people struggle from the neglect to master the basics more than any other reason at all. Offline or online, it doesn't matter, folks. The bridge between you and the income you desire by way of local marketing, IM info marketing, webinar marketing, etc. Is all contingent on your level of effective communication, period. Since this is the mobile marketing forum, I'll be specific. As of the recent...Ummm, 18 months or so. It's been an emerging trend to hop on the bandwagon of local marketing and cash in on the modern day gold rush as it's been touted. Here's the thing though. Each and every single major successful man or woman teaching you these things are darn good communicators who didn't just happen to get into local marketing. You'll find that they did their homework in learning the language to speak, the angles to take, and the methods necessary built on marketing principles that would entice prospective clients to BUY. Yes, it was easy for me to go out and acquire the 5 clients out of the 8 I'd spoke with about utilizing my company for their local online marketing. Easy from the standpoint that I didn't read a system, script, or hyped up email telling me to hurry up and do this, say this, send this to local clients before it's too late. No way!!! What I did was operate from principles, and use the advent of technology to my advantage. Because in the end, the people we speak with have not a clue of how vast the internet goes. And if you walk in there to present your internet hot local mobile deal in the language they don't speak....You LOSE, period. Instead, work on your communication more than anything, folks. Learn to speak their language, and what works well in their world, and then tie in what our world can offer them if done correctly. I promise you, if you do this, you'll be less inclined to operate from a place of fear loss as though business are going to run out, and you'll operate from a place of perpetual abundance like you wouldn't believe. Because in the end, the person who wins is the person who's most understood by the business owner, period. Now, as a personal note. I've challenged myself to create a $10k total brand new income stream by my birthday which is Oct 2nd(this coming Sunday) I have no doubt I'll do so with flying colors. You guys feel free to ask me any questions as to what I'd suggest you do in going about building your local business or any type of business for that matter. I've done it, and I'm living proof that no matter what comes along. Mastering the basics is what makes you rich. Not "secrets" as you're told constantly in our world of IM. Ciao, and I hope this made sense, because I just did this on a freakin' Ipad...lol. |
I'm pretty cool if I say so myself...lol, and I know my stuff, folks. I'm 31 years old and I'm full, full, full time on the internet. No part timing around this way...I'm here because I simply enjoy spreading as much love & light as I possibly can. Quote: "And if you walk in there to present your internet hot local mobile deal in the language they don't speak....You LOSE, period. Instead, work on your communication more than anything, folks." Thanks for articulating what I'm running into. How do I sell consulting services rather than products? It does seem to work better when I can show a step by step program that I'm going to follow for clients rather than a " Enhanced Google Places listing" or a shiny new mobile web site. Thanks! Looking forward to your response. |

Great post, ktlasm. Unfortunately this is a reality in the offline world that most of us online fail to see everytime. The message is clear - it is not what you sell or what "new" technology you bring to local offline businesses, it is the person you are and what you know that could add value to businesses and contribute to their bottom line. Trust is gained from the value we add and the contributions we make. Not websites, mobile sites or QR codes. It is the sum total of the campaigns we can come up with given the skills, industry knowledge, business sense, expertise and experience each of us has. Thanks for keeping our feet on the ground. |

Great post! Communication with the client is THE #1 THING!!!! I run a small pool company and my IM career is blossoming out of my ability to merge my day to day knowledge of working in small business and technical internet marketing skills i have picked up along the way. The reason i feel confident is not because I have used SEO and IM skills to bring my company from ZERO web presence and struggling to having our best year ever, but because every day i communicate and talk to clients. I have been building that skill for 10 years now, selling on the floor, talking on the phone, and via email correspondence. I am not saying I'm not nervous about calling business owners or walking in the front door because I AM. But I feel once I get over the fear of taking action my communication skills will take over and I will be able to gain some business. ktlasm: I would love to know what your foot in the door product is? As this is the mobile site I am making assumptions but $1,000/mo per client has to be more than a mobile website. SMS campaigns, SEO? |

Great post. You bring up a lot of great points. The ability to communicate well is an essential skill in many fields, definitely so in marketing. You also illustrated how important it is to stay focused and get good at one thing at a time & then building on that. You sound like a man of action so happy birthday to you. All that hard work over the years means you can give yourself that 10k income stream as a birthday gift to yourself |

Joe, Thanks bro. I own several online companies, bro. If you go to my fb profile you can see all the URL's to them there. I didn't want to get into specifics, boss. Just share what was on my mind at the time ya know. That's why I said if anyone has any questions. I'd be glad to answer them privately. Thanks again, my man |

DS Marketing, It's quite a few books I've read over the years, but the absolute best training I've ever had relating to communication has to be that of Carol McCall of the listening institute. I became a avid follower of her teachings when I first began in business. And the things I learned from her have led me to this point in my life and business. It's beyond powerful what you can say just by listening. People have asked me what my secret is many times, and I always say, it's listening. It's a fortune in it, boss. Thanks so much : ) |

Terry, Thanks for you compliment, boss. I really appreciate it. To answer your question as best I can without sounding confusing. I'll let you know one tid bit that has yielded me significant contracts, and some even in the 5 figure category from single clients per month. Not for mobile marketing, but much more robust. I don't want you to get the wrong idea. But, my point being this. You sell neither my friend. You don't sell "your" consulting services and most certainly do you go into a meeting selling your products. Instead, you sell them on their profits which can be earned by way of your advice, period. How? Simply put, what I do is take a look at what they're currently doing overall in their business. Find what's worked the best, and knowing what I know from a marketing standpoint. I'm able to see where my skills will enhance this already working profit stream for them by 5x, 10x, or in some cases much more. I show them numbers, I show them in a pragmatic fashion what can be obtained profit wise. Not sales, profits. You know, the money they can go and enjoy after the bills. lol. I hope that helps, boss. Love & Light : ) |

Michael, My man, it totally depends. I neeeeeever go into a consultation meeting with the idea that what I have to offer is going to blow them away per se. I listen, listen, listen. Sure, I have a staff who can virtually do anything online in a grand fashion, but that doesn't mean this particular client needs it. I take a look at their business from a birdseye view and figure out what will fit for them, and me for that matter. Giving him the entire load of services just may hinder them instead of propel them to increased profits. It's all dependent on what you see, and most importantly what you as the business owner describes their business too you. Ultimately, we must not forget. It's their business and they had a vision of where they wanted it to go before "we" ever came along. We simply tighten up their vision with a little bit of help from our knowledge base. Get me? I hope that helps a bit, boss. Thanks again : ) |

JBroyer44, Thanks a bunch for the good words, boss. My foot in the door is always the same. I always say this, and it's worked for 98% of the time(I really don't know, but I'm hardly ever turned down..lol): "Your business has some interesting things going on. One in particular that you're not maximizing I think you should take a closer look at...I'll show you exactly what I'm talking about." Try it, and you should get your foot in the door, boss. From there, I simply listen. You'd be surprised that once you sit down with a business owner, and ask them how are things going. They will tell you everything you need to know in order to figure what it is they don't see for their business which you can help them in based on your internet knowledge. Get what I'm saying, boss? Thanks again. |

I think that's pretty cool how you start your communications by LISTENING. So many times we think about what kind of angles we should pitch our services to clients but in reality we should always begin by listening. Good work man.

Big information here boss.... I'm just starting out and I think that's my problem the communication sounding like i'm selling something and not consulting setting them up for success. I am going to have to look into them audios from that speech person. one question though. your quote of "Your business has some interesting things going on. One in particular that you're not maximizing I think you should take a closer look at...I'll show you exactly what I'm talking about." is that what your telling them face to face or as a cold call? |

herbaluss, Much love and appreciation for the words, boss. I'm not a cold calling guy one bit..lol. I see it like this. Cold calling is just how it sounds...cold!!! If I don't at least have a identifying link between this person and I. I'm making one before I hop on the horn and pretend to be excited to know them. My reasoning is because it's all coming from a place of "wanting" something from him/her. Instead, throw away going for business and do it the smart way first. The way you'd like someone to make their way into your life. It can be by way of saying hello in a store, knowing a mutual friend, sharing the same interest in cars he/she may drive and you talked to them in person about it. It doesn't matter. You must create a tangible link with that person no matter how small or grand. I have a simple philosophy that has served me well and has provided me with a heck of a living. That philosophy is, "You can't email or phone a hand shake." I "use" technology to enhance clients business, not rely on it. In the end, the age old principle of know, like, and trust will trump any technique, script, or latest software widget any day. If you want them, go get them. It's much easier to call a week later if you're memorable, boss. This is all my opinion, and I don't say this as gospel. But, I will say it's earned me more money in a month than some ppl earn in 2 years. And most importantly, it's provided value to those people who eventually have become my friends like no other. You can't imagine the feeling I get when clients who've become friends, introduce me to their circle as, "the awesome guy who makes me money". I'm paraphrasing there, but you get my drift. It's a darn good feeling knowing me staying true to the principles of good business has created this environment for me to be in. |

Perfect just what I needed to hear. I always thought a face to face made more sense to close more business... but Cold Calling is the quick way...I wonder what the stats are on Cold Calling vs Face to Face... need this boost to get things rolling... I was trying to find that book on that Carol McCall seems like it's an oldie and hard to find... wouldn't mind reading up (even though I hate reading anything non eBook/Website) anything to get me to a level I hope to achieve. |

Being able to communicate is important. Have some posts been removed or edited from this thread? I've read it several times and can't see the part where you tell us how you created the $5k monthly income in exactly 9 days. |

WSOHelp, I never said that I would explain the process in what I did, boss. What I wrote is all I intended to share. From there it was all about the responses I'd receive. Cheers : ) |

Sorry Boss, I just thought that with a title like "How did I create a $5k monthly income in exactly 9 days" you were going to tell us how you "created a $5k monthly income in exactly 9 days". But yes, communication is important.

Bill(WSOHelp), I wouldn't mind sharing, but I also am careful about what I share in respect of the forums rules and policies about being to "sideways" if you know what I mean. I figured those who'd want to reach out would find me through the channels I openly share to access me, boss. Thanks again, my man. |

Wow, please try and use the 'multiquote' feature. If you want to respond to 10 posts at a time it's much easier for everyone if you just press the multiquote button at the bottom of each post you want to respond to and then you can respond to all those people in just the one post. As it stands the thread just gets bloated with your responses.

I just grabbed this earlier today and I don't comment on many of the WSO's I purchase but this guy is serious business. I haven't tried his methods yet but the video's did give me some great insight on creating videos for other businesses to add to my website. I will report back after my 10 days are up. Bucking for that first customer!

I think that you have hit the nail on the head. The key to this business, and any business, is good, ole' fashioned, face-to-face communication. Put yourself in the buyer's shoes. He doesn't want to get sold something, he wants to find a solution to his problem. Going in blind and selling a solution may work some of the time, if you are lucky enough to be selling a solution to his problem, but listening and understanding the problem will allow you to provide a solution to a problem the owner is actually experiencing. It works much better than creating a problem in order to solve problem. Solve existing problems and you only have to do half the work! |

I learned looong ago the "Basic Selling Technique" (BST) I began my Sales Career with Mail Order. Placing ads in Magazines and Newspapers and mailing Sales Letters and Cards to prospects. ATTENTION - Ya gotta get their mind off what they were doing before you entered the scene and....what they are thinking about doing AFTER you leave AND....get them to Focus on YOU and what YOU are saying! This is the "Attention-Getter" I use in my latest program; (to a restauranteur) "I can FILL your seats with HUNGRY TOURISTS!" Then I go to the next Step... INTEREST - I then go into some specifics of HOW I intend to do this so my prospect can begin to "get a feel" for what I'm planning to get him into so he can "see the Benefits" Then I build.... DESIRE - I "paint Word Pictures" of how my program can Benefit him and him enjoying these Benefits. And finally.... CLOSE - "Closing" a deal, for me, is simply "Pulling an Order Form out of the back of my "PITCH-Book"" and writing his name at the top of the page. If he is not ready to "go ahead"....he'll stop me from writing by asking a question or even saying, "HEY! I didn't say I was going ahead with this!" I then stop writing, look at him with a somewhat surprised look and ask, "Oh! I didn't cover some area completely?" He tells me his objection...I answer and continue writing! One of the common objections my prospects give me is, "I have to run this by; My Wife, Partner, Guru!" To which I respond, "Oh! OK...here's what I'll do!" (I write these words on my Order Form; "IF PARTNER SAYS, NO! THIS ORDER IS CANCELLED!" I sign MY name at bottom....hand Form to him....point to the words with my pen....then....hand him the pen and say; Just OK it here and I'll give you a copy!" Works for me, Don Alm....PRO-Sales Guy |
