I would say it all depends on what type of website it is. Some I could see it being beneficial and others I couldn't see very much use for it. It's really a case to case basis.

It is most beneficial.

Send a link via SMS to your mobile website! You NEED a mobile website!

16 million (UK) consumers accessed the internet from their phone in December 2010 viewing a total of 6.7billion pages of 4.8billion minutes! Source: Reuters

Get this, in 2009, 104.4 BILLION messages were sent!!

97% of SMS messages are opened within the first 5 seconds of the customer receiving them too, compared to email where you are looking at approx 2/3%!

So, SMS is where it's at and yes it is beneficial! :-)

Hi Hemacute,

Are these restaurants located in the US or Canada?

This is why its important to work with a true short code provider. You can report that spam and ultimately if enough people do the same the license for that short code can be suspended or revoked. SMS is a permission based or opt in system. So you "should" be only getting texts from companies/individuals that you have opted in and want to receive info from. Obviously I realize its not perfect but I do believe it is much more regulated and a better marketing system compared to email. Thats why we still have a 97-98% open rate on our messages with SMS compared to 20% on email if we are lucky.

There are huge benefits to it for websites. In fact, I've seen benefits both for online businesses and offline ones.

To be 100% transparent, I own the www.MobileAutoresponder.com service and as such, I've seen a TON of different uses for it. Here are a few examples that I've either used myself or seen other clients use:

- For sending limited time deals and coupons (both online and offline)
- For sending appointment reminders (like at a dentist office to send it before your visit)
- For sending webinar or teleseminar notices and reminders (this works very well)
- For billing reminders
- For high end sales follow ups
- For normal promotions
- For notifications of new events and meetings (like a church group alerting members to a new meet-up)

And literally tons of other things. It's true that the open rates in e-mails typically suck, while the open rates of text messages are insanely high, but in my opinion text message marketing ads yet another way to contact your leads without the high costs of direct mail.

And these days it's not like you have to invest thousands of dollars like you did several years ago to start getting into mobile sms marketing. Feel free to hit me up if you have any questions.

SMS marketing seems to be one of the best possible way to market any business but here database plays a huge role as message to irrelevant web numbers may prove annoying to them.

SMS is the way of the future. People don't read mail anymore. Direct advertising will be known as simply as SMS marketing fairly soon.

Hello nomaziz,

Certainly, SMS Marketing is really worth but we have observed SMS Marketing effect for our few online business website and we have found that there is conversion ratio only 1% to 2% in our campaign. However I would like to tell you that your niche products are quite interested or useful for other peoples then you can go trail SMS plans and get the own feed back about SMS Marketing.

If you are interested to promote your website on asian countries then I think it's not good strategy. the reason is only that as compare with mobile user, internet user community is very low. that means if you are promoting your website on sms. mobile user just read the message and delete it. They never visit your website.

Right now I'm using sms marketing for political candidates in 4 States. As Brian stated earlier, the possibilities are endless. For those of you who would like to jump into this hot marketing bed in your area, Look at the following Facebook page I built and imagine how many candidates you could do this for where you live in the next 2 weeks. Now is the time to sign them up and they have campaign money to spend.

What a fantastic idea for local elections!! I hate politicians too, so milking some money from them would be great!

On the contact page there is an sms subscribe form for followers to sign up for election news direct from the candidate.

It would be beneficial if it takes place in right way..
Because generally is user are busy then they cannot pay attention on messages from new no or unknown identity. And asian country like India where TRAI (The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) dont allow messages afteer a limit any more. So would be quit difficult to do SMS marketting..
