Just wondering for those of you in the trenches...how many messages are your clients sending per month and the types of businesses on both the high and low sides? Thanks, Kevin |

My clients only send out 2 messages per month tops. So a 500 subscriber list costs only 5 bucks per message with Twiilio. So 10 bucks per month for 2 broadcasts. I charge 10 times cost per month so there definitely is profit to be made in SMS.

Yeah, I want to hit SMS pretty hard but was wondering how many messages the average business sends and how many subscribers they have. I'm on Chick Fil A's (a fast food chain) SMS list and they send about eight per month (but I don't know the size of their list). |

Chick Fil A most likely has a larger ad budget compared to a local business. They can send a quick message out to hundreds of thousands of customers around the US and have a good ROI (return on investment) when people come and get upgrades after their original sale offer...do you want fries with that? For businesses starting out using SMS, this grows with them. As they send more messages, they do more business and get more people to join, which brings in more business and the cycle continues! |

I don't think that finding an average is really going to help. It differs so much from one company to another, from one business type to another that you may find yourself shooting yourself in the foot if you use what's working for one business in a campaign for another. I generally use how many opt ins the business is getting to gauge how many messages I am sending out the next month. Most are around 100-150 opt ins a month and I recommend to my customers not to send more than 3 messages per month. On the flipside, I have a couple clients that generated over 500 opt ins in a month and we send one a week with a week or two getting a second message sent out. This all being said the amount of messages that you send WILL NOT matter if the message is not enticing. This is the most important part of sending the message. Make sure to make each message of value to the consumers. Put yourself in the place of the consumer (ie Are you going to eat at the same restaurant two weeks in a row because they offered you a free appetizer? or Are you more willing to if it is a free appetizer one week and buy one meal get second free next week?) Best of luck to you, b |
