Need your advice about SMS marketing
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hey everybody! I know it's my first post but I've been looking around and never had the chance to participate so here I am!

So I'm currently in the process of getting my own shortcode for SMS in Canada and me and my partner are debatting on how to price our service?

So my idea was to make 49$/month for the first keyword and then another 29$/month for the second and more.

Then for the text message they would buy it in "bulk" like in package of 50,100,250,500 etc... and the text would never expire too, till they use it.

So does this sound good or should I change my pricing method?

Hope you can help me and I thank you in advance!

Hey I live in Canada, and have been wondering about providing SMS services to my clients as well. What company do you use?

Sorry for hijacking your thread, but couldn't resist asking this question since we live in the same region.

Do your research. Depending on your local market size, there are many options. The more sophisticated your market, the more sophisticated your program needs to be. There are plenty of options for small business marketing. Pricing will always determine profitability. Not everyone drives a Lexus or a Mercedes. The reason some do is because they can afford to. When you are marketing to a local business, ask questions that will clue you in on their budget. Are they in the yellow pages? Do the advertise in the local paper? Then ask the following question that almost always gets a NO response. Are you able to track your advertising programs to see which ones are getting results?

My thoughts are your selling two different products that need each other to work! I would recommend joining them together as plans so that you only have to sell once! (e.g. 1 key and 500 messages $79.99 or 2 key and 500 messages $99.99) This may help you on the sales side so your not selling them a keyword at $X and then have to sale them again their messages.
Hope this helps,
b

Also, I've sent you a PM.
The true expense in any SMS marketing program is the per text charges. I've seen companies charge as much as $0.05 per text and even more with text package plans.

On just one of my local lists, if I sent one text message per week at $0.05 per text credit the cost per month for that list would be well over $900 for the month.

Per text charges will wipe you out faster than you can say "STOP"

Sure... but doesn't someone have to pay the per text fees?

I thought the only way to get around that was by using SMTP instead of true SMS?

Yeah I've talked to them. Their platform is ok I would say. I think it needs more polishing on the design side and maybe one or two good features.

And to all the others thanks you guys for helping me find a good pricing point! I'll keep you updated with my decision soon!

Yeah but in Canada using SMTP you do not join all the wireless carrier so you loose some customer. But my goal is not to go cheap, I want some robust and with a clean design (like trumpia does)

Pricing is completely up to you. Let me offer up some food for thought. I would try to keep the per-keyword charges lower and build the money you need into the monthly package. The reason I say this is, you don't want to discourage someone from running multiple campaigns by charging high per-keyword per-month charges; you want to encourage them to run as many campaigns as they'd like and perhaps find them bumping up to higher text packages.

At least that is my rationale. Either way you decide to go, best of luck with your venture.

Yeah you came with a good point! I didn't think of that part, will certainly add it into consideration.

Thank you
