So this idea just came to me. I operate a business that creates mobile apps for small businesses. Now that the infrastructure is in place I can have them made and coded quite quickly. I got to thinking about expansion, as I operate online and offline and the though of providing an app for IM'ers came to me! We all know it is about list building in this industry, and that is what our apps are geared to do, we build lists through social media and mobile integration. The IM'er can easily get thousands of mobile users to download their apps, simply by sending a link or QR code out to their lists/facebook fans/followers. Features that would be beneficial to the IMer are: HTML5 webpage that is mobile friendly, Opt-in pop-up. coupon codes Mobile merchant account (Sell your products to your mobile customers instantly!) and most importantly PUSH NOTIFICATIONS! Push notifications can immediately alert your users of your newest WSO or other product. How many emails on your list are secondary emails that people use to opt-in to offers? Well, this now gets around that with push notifications. Push notifications can instantly alert the user, no matter where he or she is, of your new offer. Pump it up and enough and they will stop whatever they are doing and buy your product! You the IM'er have now entered the world of Mobile Internet Marketing, or MIM. I want your feedback on this warriors, what do you think? What other features or opportunities could this bring the standard IM'er out there? |

Yes, anything that is more 'in your face' (such as sms and push notifications) are going to get you more attention for a while but it's that same attention that is going to be the death of it. People will get very sick very quickly of receiving text messages, push notifications, etc. Now is the time to be doing sms because as it becomes more mainstream and more popular I feel it won't be anywhere near as effective as it is today - kind of the same way email marketing has panned out over the years. The difference is we have our phones on us all day every day so anything annoying us is going to get turned off very quickly. For that reason alone I can see them dying a much quicker death than email has. | |

^^^ SMS spam is rampant in the US. I haven't done much SMS research outside into international sms markets but it's pretty bad. As more and more marketers and services jump on it, people are going to get annoyed. With location based services, Push notifications are ok but again I agree with Will here, I turned them off always. Got to get the goodies now before it's too late |

I couldn't agree with you more Will. I also turn off push notifications. A recent app I downloaded didn't have the option to turn off notifications so I deleted it. I had been reluctant to get involved with SMS marketing because of the annoying factor. Personally if I want to receive marketing messages from businesses I would rather get them through Twitter. |

A good opt in SMS list will be more useful than push because most all of us turn that off. Mobile apps are intersting but for many businesses the cost is just too high and a mobile website makes more sense and reaches more people. |

You are correct about the mobile websites lordauric. That is why we not only provide provide an app, but an HTML5 mobile site that is easily redirected from the main site. The client gets the best of both worlds, and for an affordable price. |
