SMS in Canada - Any problems reaching all cell providers?

After reading so many posts about SMS messaging, I can really see a lot of prospects for this service. However, I have been seeing that many SMS providers only reach the big cell providers. There is a huge number of people converting to the low cost providers (Wind Mobile, Mobilicity, etc.) and I never see any of these listed as being able to be sent a text. Can anyone confirm this?

Are there any other problems with SMS in Canada?

In my opinion the only reason is that those low cost providers are concentrated into one city or two and are not expended across Canada. So most people do not try to get them into Short Code SMS marketing. And another point is that they don't have all the ressources to get you working fast as compared to the big ones like Telus or Bell. That's my 2 cents about this. P.S. : normally small low cost providers are using big providers network so I don't know why Short Code marketing shouldn't work with them.

But other than that SMS in Canada is working great will all the big providers.

I'm in the US so I'm not familiar with the carriers in Canada. However, my SMS provider's short code works for those two smaller carriers you mentioned. Here's the list of supported carriers for Canada:

    Aliant Mobility

    MTS Mobility

    SaskTel Mobility

    Vidéotron

    Mobilicity

    Bell Mobility

    NorthernTel Mobility

    Télébec Mobilité

    Virgin Mobile Canada

    Fido

    Rogers Wireless

    TELUS Mobility

    WIND Mobile

I think Lime Cellular is the best white label SMS marketing platform.

Why would you need a system that works in both countries? On a map, yes many Canadians live in more of the southern parts of Canada. But living in the lower 1/4 of Canada can still be 6 hours or more from the border
I use AvidMobile Canadian short code. Works great, just installed an appointment reminder service in a busy doctors office!

As far as SMS, I haven't found any issues. The smaller carriers piggy back on the larger networks. For example Virgin uses the Telus network.

There are a lot of businesses on the Border that have both clients that are from both the US and Canada. For those businesses its important to be able to reach either... for those businesses a long code solution works great.
