I bought a couple wso's on mobile site lead generation and creation software but I have a problem, notable the mobile site crusher wso... Isn't the best solution for a client to make their current site mobile optimized rather than build a separate mobile site? Although making a few hundred bucks on a mobile site deal is intriguing, isn't it the wrong thing to do for your client if they already have a site that is ranked? Or am I missing something? Please enlighten me if you have a moment |

Here's my 2 cents. I think optimizing their current site will be the best solution, but it very much depends on your client's wishes. To optimize an existing site, it might be necessary to redesign it completely. If a client doesn't want that, a mobile version on a subdomain would be a good choice.

Thanks. That makes sense. On our salon and spa website I just have a small text link linking to my mobile site. I don't like it because it's not visible. What are the best ways to make the mobile version more visible to site visitors?

You could insert an image of a mobile phone, link it to the mobile site and add a slogan like: Visit us anytime and anywhere!

Could you use a redirect script that loads your mobile site if the screen dimensions are right? Would there be any disadvantages to that?

My 2cents worth on developing a mobile site for your client as opposed to optimizing their current site is simply this. Most Mobile users using smartphones do not use their phones like they do on their PC or Laptop. They want to find the information as quickly as possible as it costs them more money than if they were to surf and search from their home or office pc. So you need to develop a mobile web site that is smaller and has the barest of necessary information on it. And a link back to the main site IF they so wish, then the cost is up to the user and not being depicted by the owner of the web site. Most web sites I code are between 4 and 9 pages. Bear in mind there really is no hard and fast rule on how many small pages within a mobile site you can create for your client. But do try to limit the depth to 3 levels and preferably no more than 7-9 links per page. Hope this helps Ron | |

My two cents: I didn't buy Mobile Crusher so I have no clue what they tell you to do, but the best solution generally is to use a redirect script so that when someone comes upon the regular website using a mobile device they're redirected, usually to a mobile subfolder on the same site (ie- m.somesite.com). You probably should NOT be using a separate site that you have to work on ranking, etc.

That's right. Redirection for the mobile visitor is what is done, when done professionaly. You cannot "optimize" the standard site as some said, what optimization should that be? If they meant putting a plugin inside, in a wordpress blog, that is the same like redirecting to the mobile version, which should be far smaller in content, just as arty49 recommended, as far as it goes for local clients. Mobile look, contact, some nice, maybe shortened, texts, maybe a map (BTW they maps are not W3 compliant, as soon as You use the frame | Didnt try a check with the old maps code so far) and the look should be tight to the original site, generally for mobile pages. I am using mobile crusher (when I translated to a 100%). I will go for a basic version of the clients' site that will be previewed. Simple layout, not tight to the original site, just as they use it in the system. And then simply upsell anything possible and useful to the client. Payment for redirection from my sub. Better, individualized mobile page. Mobile shops. Marketing consultancy. Lead generation. Re-Design to local needs of old webpage. Blabla... Thats the system they mean in mobil crusher. Cheers.
