Is Anyone Monetizing QR Codes?
Share on:

To see what the are: QR code - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I was thinking of offering some of my offline customers the service of creating QR codes for them. They can create special offers on their websites and then link to them via the QR code itself and then promote those qr codes offline.

But then I realized that not many people know what a QR code is let alone would actually use their smart phone to scan one.

Any thoughts?

Wow. This is something new. You can always try, but it seems to be something you "add-on" or include free for your clients.. well, that's what most webmasters do.

However, even if you do sell it, how much do you think customers would be willing to pay?

I didn't get it. How exactly you would like to offer such a service? I mean do you wanna sell links to online QR code generators (e.g. QR-Code Generator, QR Code Generator - create QR Codes online [business card, t-shirt, mug, 2D barcode, generate QR-Code] - goQR.me, QR Code Generator. Make a QR Code. Create a QR Code. QR Code. Generate QR Code. QR Code Tracking. - Delivr) or something else?

Sorry for s stupid question.

Well say for example you have a client that uses both print and online media. They want to place an ad in a paper or magazine but they only have limited space. They write the copy:
Jeffs Outdoor & Camping

"Check out our SEXY new ladies snow boots"

Simply Scan your phone over this code <Insert QR Code Here>

But unless everyone A) is aware of what these are an B) have a smart phone and C) have the qr reader app, then this wont work. Drawing at straws here, but still and idea that needs expansion.

I will be implementing QR Codes with my mobile websites very soon.

Even though they have been around for many years, I feel with the explosion of smartphones that they will start being used more.

For some clients I would have them use a loss-leader product or service, and along with a printed QR Code, put underneath "Special offer ONLY available when you scan this code". Then maybe put quick instructions on how to download a code reader on your phone.
If the offer is enticing enough, consumers WILL figure out how to scan it!!

Then my client could change up the offers every so often and by then, existing customers will now know how to scan it!

QR Codes are being used by many Major Companies and big and small businesses and even though you can get free QR Code creators as with all things many people will look for the easy option of having one or more created for them so creating them for your mobile website clients is of course a very good idea.

And giving people who scan something extra works well too as we are still in a situation where we need to educate people to scan.

That's why whenever you use a QR code you should ALWAYS have a text version of the url below or down the side of the QR code. Leave it out and you are wasting a lot of your advertising.
