Hi,
I recognized through a TV commercial, that 1and1 now offers mobile versions of the self-created website.
I checked the german 1und1.de page for this feature. Went to the references on the different industries and tested some.
The pages are not switching to mobile view.

In the description it only is written, that the mobile website will work, when it is created new, I think from now on created pages will have this feature.

On the american 1and1.com there is written, taht You have to set the funciton for mobile view to on.

So, we have two facts.
The already created pages are not on mobile view.

Either in Germany, they have to be new created pages (if this is the truth, what those people write) and in the US, You only have to pull the trigger.

I didnt find a single page mobilized.

I think the chance is now:
If any new prospect has such a page made with 1and1, You could tell him to start use the mobile page for marketing, easy client.
And later upsell him to a good website (BTW, I think the mobile versions of 1and1 are much cooler than the desktop versions).

Or, If they from 1and1 didnt tell the truth about the option simply to switch it to mobile, You could right away, tell the prospect 1and1 is not working and why not take a mobile page by You, so real quality will happen.

But anyway, this is kind of a public proof, that mobile is really hot!

I have a problem now, to see if this is a chance really, with these clients most of the time only on a hunt for a bargain.
But... when anybody buys 1and1 stuff, You can bet, he has no clue what he is doing, so now You can sell the bargain.
Give the mobile page away for free and the webpage and only sell the marketing. Plus hosting.

BECAUSE: Will 1and1 now care for all the clients, who didnt use it as mobile?
Probably not!

So, this could be a chance, because You simply need to browse the 1and1 page and find the leads organized after industries.

One could alo go over and make their ugly 1and1-page mobilized and then sell marketing.
They will see You as a specialist and start working with You.
Later on, You can cure them from 1and1.


As an info, I dont know if everybody knows, but 1and1 is german. They are based here in Germany, and are a total discounter. Not very famous for their support. And the quality of their products is somehow disarranged.
The stuff where they could be really good in (if they only wanted) but are not, is too cheap and breaking prices.
And the stuff where they are expensive at, is abolutely overpriced and they are far from good. Forums in Germany are full of complaints.
So, bring away the client from there and he might be more happy soon.

Okay, You can have Your own opinion, but everytime a customer comes around the corner with them, I hide in the trenches.

What are Your thoughts on this offer?

I thought about that too,
but as they are normal websites under a domain, I guess: No.

Just like finding sites created by any other firm or organization, there's usually a Google search that can be done for it because of a footer link.

Try searching "hosted by 1and1.com". You'll find a lot of people complaining about hosting problems, but you'll also find quite a few sites that are more along the lines what you might be looking for. Hope this helps.
