I am messing around with generating QR codes to put on a mock up business card. I am going to use it when I go around selling mobile sites. I also want to introduce them to QR codes. Everything works fine if I direct the QR code to a URL, but I can't get it to work when trying to have it send a SMS message. I've tried 3 different QR generators no, so it's gotta something I'm doing wrong. What is the proper way to do this...if someone scans the code, I want them to receive a text message and be added to a list to get future messages. Same thing as if you were to have people text a shortcode where they would get added to the list and get a message right away. Can this be done with QR codes? Or am I missing something obvious? |

Alot of the QR code scanners are seemingly incompetent when it comes to the messaging feature. The hope is that with time, a standard will develop and with the uses of QR expanding, more and more of these scanning programs will move to properly incorporate the features. Keep in mind it can draft you a message with a keyword to the number you choose to opt in, but the message has to be sent by the user.

In the "select content type" I tried both SMS and text. When I scanned the QR code, it gave the info I typed in when creating the QR code, but it did so after directing you to the esponce.com site. It didn't come as a text message. Is that not doable right now with QR codes?? Or did I just do it wrong? javarog - When you got it to work, what did you do when creating it?

When generating QR codes, a "text message" is not the same as SMS. A text message just pulls up the text you wrote, showing a message for the person who scanned. SMS is what you want. Type the short code in, then the message to send (message should be the keyword required to subscribe to your list). When the person scans the QR code, they'll still have to hit "send." Hope that helps! FYI, I use Offermobi's QR code generator. Here's a direct link to the SMS section: Sms | QRCode |

Trued it, didn't work for me. I used the one int eh link you gave. I used the shortcode and in the message section I put in my keyword. Scanned it and got a message saying code found, so I hit ok and it tried to open up a web page but then gave an error. Texting the keyword to the shortcode works fine. But for whatever reason I can't figure out how to get scanning a QR code to work. Very frustrating.
