Are you an expert in creating mobile websites?

Hey Warriors! I joined the forum a few weeks back, but been lurking for awhile. I have been weighing my options for what services to launch my business with, and mobile websites seem to come out on top when compared to other options. So here is my dilemma. I have NO IDEA, no to create one of these. My plan is to sell a package to a business, which includes a mobile website, and a QR code directed to the site they can use in there print media, business cards, etc. I looked around the warriors for hire, I see nobody offering mobile sites? Can anyone, who is an expert in this field, either help me out in the process to learn them, or maybe message me and we can come up with some sort of joint venture here? Appreciate any replies, I am very motivated to get this started. I have 6 years direct sales experience. 3 of those years were spent going business to business selling products, so cold calling is no problem.

To get there go to my profile on the WF > contact info >home page, then 'contact us' at my site.
Otherwise, feel free to send me an IM through skype.
    Kind regards and talk soon.

hmm, I did not understand this at all. I think the gist is google how to create a mobile site.

However, for those who have not been contacted by others yet, if you do google it, you find that deep down there are a few sites with free templates (all html of course) and if you simply do a search for jquery mobile, you will find tons of resources.

The fact is that you can buy mobile templates everywhere, and cheap too.
Not to burst anyones bubble, but you can get them for as cheap as $6 on themeforest. And then you decompile it (well, use any html editor-notepad, wyswyg, old frontpage, new expression, dreamweaver) and BAM Baby, you can develop your own new templates.

I would feel worse if I never try at all, than if I do my best and fail.

What you will find with 99% of all the templates or plugins you purchase is that they only skim the surface of being truly made for mobile. Funny how mobile validation and offering a truly mobile experience goes out the window when people think they can make fast money... It's the end user and the client that loses out, right now it's like the blind leading the blind when it comes to mobile.... Same thing with the deployment of qr codes, great potential but being ruined by bad implementation and deployment.

I like your enthusiam but good luck with reverse engineering templates from themeforest I hope for the sake of your future clients you do a little bit more research into mobile web development than just that, especially if you think jquery for mobile is the answer...

At OP where are you located?

Im located just outside Toronto Ontario Canada.

I got another person on board as well, with sales experience , that wants to run with the idea once I explained it all to him. I think I can make some good money with this .

I got a few pms, and a few guys off kijiji that have contacted me in regards to design, so well see what happens.

Im planning on putting together a sales book, with some stats, graphs, etc, to make a easier sales pitch. Any tips? If anyones in the mobile website selling business right now I would love to chat a bit.

I was thinking $249 set up, and $24.99/month....this includes the QR code, hosting, maintenance, their own .mobi, and 1 free update per month.

Anyways, let me know if your in this game I would love some tips to get going.

I would sign up with a good hosted mobile content management system that offers an agency-type account (where you can manage all sites under the same login, and also see/download the stats on visitors and conversions as it is a BIG selling point to your clients and the reason they want the mobile site in the first place). There are a couple out there that do that, and this is what my company does (I'll send you a direct message with a link).

In general, a couple of things to look for in these mobile CMS systems:
-- how much "code" is required to create a truly custom site? (many solutions are promoted as a "no programmer needed" platform, but few actually do that well. (A common issue for many CMS)
-- are the templates- cookie-cutter, or can you customize them (again, without having to pay a programmer and a testing solution to test across thousands of devices)
-- does the platform work for smart phones only? There are quite a few people out there with basic or not-so-smart phones, and you can't ignore that crowd just yet.

Also, many of these mobile CMS are targeting small business customers. Your typical small business guy is suffering from info overload and is often lost as far as what all they are supposed to do with Web, Mobile, Social, SEO, google places, yelp, reviews, etc.. add to that print advertising, QR codes, newsletters, SMS marketing, etc. Many would gladly offload some of this burden (especially mobile) to an outside marketer who knows what they are doing. And I am speaking from experience here, as we used to offer small business plans, and found out that many small business guys would gladly pay us to set up ("design") their mobile sites so that they don't have to mess with it.

Clearly there is a growing demand for what you are doing. Congratulations : )

Contact me any time if I can be of any help.

    Thanks for the replies

I obviously need a nice website to begin with I think at the minimum, although I already have a designer creating 2 mock ups for 2 business' I contacted earlier on today. We will see what materializes there. I am still looking for any designers though, as this guy is the first try, and you never know....

Again, I think my pricing will stay at $249 + $24.99/Month that includes domain name, mobi, qr code, and a re direct script that either my programmer, or there web guy can install.

Another question I have now though, is that these first 2 business I am talking to are through email only. Not local. What is my best option to show them there mobile site once completed? Should I just send a screenshot of the mock up, or is there a way for them to be able to see it inside there email?

Such a newbie here, but i believe this system will work , I will learn as I go.

Ps. anyone that pms me please leave email, I can not pm you back yet!!!

I can recommend a good mobile website company that has an easy icon based mobile website format. Very user friendly and first 30 days is free (I think) and then eight dollars a month to host each site. Good support too. You could do a nice demo for clients since everyone is used to icons. getgomobi is the company. I think you can even white label it for free.

I'd rather host myself, but this is what I used when I was first getting started.

When getting started the obvious thing is to do your homework.

If you really want a good business then making your own sites is imperative so you can customize the sites for your customers.

Also there are different systems you can use for different customers so I like to have a few under my belt.

I use a HTML system for doing small sites and coupon sites which are probably the majority of my work.

I use Wills PHP script for customers who require validation and a little more speed.

I then use WP as a full cms mobile solution for big sites and a lot of my own larger projects.

In the new year we will release a template site that will be white labeled for you to sell customer generated site. I dont really like these but there is definitely a market for them.
