How to record a screen capture video of my cell phone
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

HI,

I build mobile websites and I want to make a video presentation of the websites. For some reason it doesnt look good on mobile emulators.
I searched for apps like camtasia for iphone but didnt find any.

I found one app called ScreenRecorder for jail broken iphone and when I record the video it saves in a location /var/mobile/media/ScreenRecorder/. I am not able to navigate to this location and I dont know how to do it.

Can you please give me a solution where I can video record my iphone screen to show to potential clients.

Appreciate your help.

Thanks
SA

What do you mean it does not look good on emulators? I have recorded plenty of videos using the emulators as have others I have seen, and in all of them the mobile sites look fine through the emulator.

Or on a related note, has anyone found a way to be able to take a screenshot (not video) of a mobile site (the whole index page - even the portion not showing) via an emulator? I know snagit has a feature for capture windows that need to be scrolled but it doesn't seem to be able to do this from an emulator. Just curious if anyone has figured this out.

If you just want a screen shot of you mobile site using an iphone, you can open the site and simply click the home button and the power button simultaneously, it will save a screen shot in your camera roll or pictures.

I suggest you use the free emulator here:
Mobilizer | Springbox

That should solve your issues.

It will allow you to display your site on 4 different types of mobile phones and also take screen captures right from within the program.

Willr has the best solution for the majority of people creating mobile websites right now, however if your building in more advanced features in your mobile user experience you will need to look elsewhere.

The most accurate iPhone emulator I have used by far is Xcode for Mac.

It enables features such as full screen mode, startup screen, desktop icons and more, for most people starting out this will be overkill, however when you expand your skills and take them beyond doing basic mobile sites then Xcode would by my recommendation - downside is you need an iPhone app developer license which cost $100 and it only works on a Mac.

A very close windows version to the Xcode emulator would be One Mobile - I have noticed is unlike Xcode it doesn't handle video. This has a $100 price tag too...

Naturally if you where to use these you would use something like camtasia or screenr.com to record your computers screen.

I would only recommend the above emulators if your doing more than your basic mobile website more advanced developers will appreciate these emulators if they are wanting to video record the experience. For developmental purposes you can't beat using the real thing. But this is not what the thread is about its about recording the experience on video.

On a different note you can actually get audio/video leads that plug into the headphone socket on certain androids that enable mirrored video and audio to be output. I got leads for my Samsung captivate and am able to plug it into my pc using a device called video to pc whole setup cost me around $50 downside I wasn't to happy with the quality of output... Plugged into my flat screen tv it's awesome... So i put it down to the video to pc hub will experiment more over the holidays.

Hope that helps

Cheers

Jay
