If you create a QR code that takes you to a website, is it possible to change it so that it takes you to a video or something else instead? Or will you have to create a whole new code? Just thinking about if you printed a large quantity of postcards or created a QR code on a shirt or something, but wanted to change what happens when someone scans it later on, if it's possible. a good question for discussion, CP Well, there are static, and dynamic QR codes...I haven't seen any free sites for dynamic codes... I wonder sometimes what would be easier / cheaper to use. Does anyone just do a re-direct, or is it easier to use a dynamic qr code? |

Hey Mrcouchpotatoe The best way to accomplish what you're looking to do is with a Dynamic QR code. As the post above me stated, there are not many options for doing this without ponying up some cash. You could use a service like yourls.org if you want to create your own dynamic short url generator and then use the short url to generate a QR code. This will allow you to login to the yourls back end and change the destination URL of the short URL at any time. If you don't mind paying a little bit of money per month you could use a service like QRstuff.com to generate and store dynamic QR codes. They also offer tracking and the ability to password protect QR codes. Let me know questions or PM me if you want some help and we can Skype convo some time. |

Just make an empty submenu on your domain like: www.mydomain/qr Then in your cPanel just redirect it to whatever link you want. This can be changed literally within a minute if you want it redirected to another link and you won't have to pay another company. |

I use a free url rotator wordpress plugin, this gives you the option to not only redirect but redirect users to different URL's every time they scan the qr code. http://www.jonathanboettcher.com/url...dpress-plugin/ this technique does have limitations, for example if multiple people are scanning the qr code at the same time, but can be used for showing potential clients potential problems with their current marketing all from one single qr code, such as unclaimed google place listings, local search results for their niche and can show difference between mobile website and non mobile website. the plugin is extremely easy to use and free |

I'm curious about "this technique does have limitations, for example if multiple people are scanning the qr code at the same time," - What is happening in that occurrence? Is there a bit of info I can look at on that, or can you elaborate a bit? The rest of the paragraph is intriguing as well... Cheers, 3M

this method is ok for demonstration purposes, but could pose problems with more than one person scanning at the same time, as it will rotate through URL's , regardless of who is scanning it ( this only occurred to me yesterday ... D'OH ) what is the chance of this happening... probably quite small for most applications. But this could be used for running special offers for say restaurants, scan once for menu, scan twice to access special offer I had the idea to add a qr code to a fridge magnet, and then approach a pizza restaurant and suggest that they could encourage customers to keep the magnet on their fridge by running monthly competitions. I found a cheap source for fridge magnets and sticky labels in the UK. This could also work with newspaper ads etc. give the business a fridge magnet / sticky label, and then upsell the mobile websites etc.

Thanks for the update Phil - The rotating fridge magnet competition idea is great! - you could play it for an "enter daily to increase your chances to win" and rotate the offer...great for coupon testing too! And if you didn't want it to rotate, what would stop you from using the same address 3 times? |

As others have correctly stated, whenever you are using QR codes in printed media you should ALWAYS be using a redirect url so you can change the destination url if you ever need to. That's a must when doing any printed materials.
