Just wanted to share some of my quick success with others. Landed my first mobile client today on my lunch-break from my current 9 to 5 (which will most likely be ending soon, thankfully). Of course, the sale was a little easier since it was a business owner I knew; however, I still had to "sell" him on it. Well, with the mock-up I had already developed, it basically sold itself. Needless to say, he was completely blown away and could see the value in the website immediately. I'm meeting with him and his other partner on Tuesday to seal the deal, get the payment and setup the site on their host. It was that simple, really. During the meeting, I also mentioned a lot of different facts regarding mobile and really focused on showing him the benefits of the site (not just the cool "click to call buttons" or geo-mapping, etc). For example, one thing I pointed out was that there are a LOT of people who use their phones to browse the internet during the day at work (since a lot of major corporations have strict internet rules). That seemed to have clicked with him instantly, and I think it is a good fact to mention regardless, just because it's true. I can't tell you how many friends I know that use their phones during work to look up different things here and there, so it's easy to see how a mobile optimized website would help in a situation like that (as opposed to pinching and expanding the screen to read text or see images). Can't wait to really get things rolling! Trying to build up my portfolio and really kick things into gear. Once I have a few websites under my belt, I'm going to start my cold calling and start setting appointments. The market around here is RIPE for mobile web business. Here's to more deals in the future! |

Way to go - congratulations! The first one is always the hardest so it will get easier from now on. Creating a mock is very effective as you have seen. We also use QR codes to demonstrate mobile websites. We bring 2 QR codes - one that goes to their current site and the second that goes to the mock up we have created. This ads to the wow factor. Congrats! How exciting. I am very happy for you. I am working on a project that includes offering a variety of services for a particular industry. One of the services will be mobile websites, but I will be outsourcing it. What do you charge for creating a mobile site? |

That's cool you're using QR codes. I don't know if I plan to get into QR codes yet or not. Might be a good thing to introduce after the clients get used to the whole idea of a mobile website (as not many have one around here to begin with). That's the plan! He also owns other businesses and knows a LOT of business owners in the area. Referrals are always great to have, and I hope to get a few out of the deal. Can't argue with more leads | |

Congratulations! You did a great job in hooking the client. Telling him the most people used their phones even during their office work hours. That was good strategy. |

It's really fun when they see the value - and the buying signs are really obvious, when they want it.

What an excellent idea to mention the internet block that most companies use. I will certainly be using that one in my next marketing campaign! I myself got my 1st client last week and it was a wonderful feeling :-) As far as referrals go I will be offering a £20 rebate for any referrals who complete a full price purchase. The client I got last week looked quite pleased when I told him he could earn £200 for 10 referrals! |

I had this rebate idea also for referals! I might throw that out to the business owners if they are not saying things like "oh this is great, I know others who might need this". If they're willing to get you referals because of the top notce work you're doing, then no need to reward them for it

Hey all, how do you go about finding potential leads? What type of clients do you usually target, i.e. how do you know that this person might be interested to buy a mobile site from us? I was planning to search on yellowpages for businesses that already have regular sites and then call them to set up an appointment, though I am still not sure what would be the best leads to call? Thanks for any suggestion!!! |

Congrats, the first one is usually the toughest. This will motivate you for future sales and of course you will now have an actual example to show future prospects. Great strategy mentioning the restrictions on internet use during office hours, I'll have to add that to my arsenal. Good luck and continue to share your experiences with us. |
