gomobi and cpanel integration...
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

So the Gomobi mobile site creator will be integrated into WHM/cPanel

See here - cPanel partners with dotMobi to launch enhanced version of goMobi mobile Web solution | dotMobi

Cant say i am overjoyed or excited about the news since i don't actually rate the gomobi service - i just think that this will cause a flood of mobile sites that all look the same and which actually fall short of an actual good mobile user experience...

What it means is that your typical webhosting that comes with say hostgator will have direct access to the gomobi mobile website creator... am not if this will be at an additional fee to use the service as it is not 100% clear... additionally i am am unsure if they are adding the creator so the sites would be self hosted and without possibly the need of a .mobi domain which would be a better solution especially if you can customize the final output on your own hosting...

its interesting to note that if you do want to offer this service that WHMCS will also be enabling a more automated module for billing and setup

Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature!

Jay,

To be honest, I have never been impressed with anything that works through cpanel. Even though it usually has Fantastico, what you end up with leaves a lot to be desired. I know for a lot of people it makes things easier, but you seem to end up lacking in a lot of things.

Fantastico has never impressed me.

I think there will still be a lot of room to work with for setting clients up with top notch sites.

Cpanel would do better to stay with what they know.

Thanks,

John

i think cpanel certainly does help when it comes to adding a GUI to managing your hosting, but like you said fantastico (which is developed by a third party) has actually caused me more headaches than i can ever imagine, especially when it comes to installing Wordpress and Joomla, whilst a one click install is great... it can actually turn out to be an absolute nightmare when you start doing more complex things and you start getting issues with file permissions, etc lol been there done that! lol

whilst i understand what they are trying to do - i still dont believe business owners have:

a) the time
b) know how
c) patience

to sit down and start learning a new interface let alone build and manage their own mobile site - especially when the end product is sub par compared to what a good mobile web developer can put out

if someone doesn't know any better just like everything else - they will probably thinks its amazing! lol same for mobisitegalore sites which are even worse! LMAO

Sorry, I am too busy helping people to think of a cool signature!

Don't get me wrong, cpanel for managing your sites is... well, I would be lost without it.

But the additional builders, installers, other add ons they end up are more of a pain in the you know what. Even as 'user-friendly' as Fantastico is supposed to be, I still get people telling me what a mes it made of things.

I do agree about the part concerning business owners doing it themselves. I guess they could, but they would get what they are paying for.

It's a nice thought, but I don't see it going anywhere.

Thanks,

John

Most of the cPanels I have used in my time have also had free website builders in them but I haven't seen many people using them. As has been discussed before, majority of the people using the cPanel are not the end-user but someone, like us, doing the work on their behalf. The small minority who use cPanel themselves will never even hear about the gomobi service or just won't use it. Besides, those who are confident enough to be using and navigating around the cPanel are not the type of clients we are really looking for.

I don't see this as an issue at all.

Jay,

gomobi is already part of Network Solutions CPanel (I logged into my Network Solutions account, clicked on "Mobile" link in the top and it took me to an option to buy the gomobi account (I think it was $5.99) or get a free trial.

I know for a lot of people it makes things easier, but you seem to end up lacking in a lot of things.
Gomobi sells a cheap cookie-cutter product through cheap mass resellers. And for themto be able to do that the product MUST be cookie-cutter with limited customization options (to minimize and simplify support, if for no other reason).

I think there will still be a lot of room to work with for setting clients up with top notch sites.
First of all, any company that really cares about branding and unique experience, won't be happy with a gomobi site.

I agree with WillR that this is not an issue. In fast, this may be a good thing as this reminds potential clients that mobile is here and now. But - looking for something better than a cookie-cutter look shared by a bazzilion other businesses out there? Hire a professional!
