That must have been my brothers wedding. Even in his video which was over 2 hours long he was only featured in the "I D0" portion. Had he purchased a mobile invite site as least his picture would have been featured ;-)

To be more specific...GIRLS WANT IT ALL!!!

So why not in combination with? Fancy QR on the invite since there is only SO MUCH SPACE on paper!!! And after the wedding there can be a VIDEO, PHOTO'S, THANK YOU PAGE, QUESTBOOK, etc. the works.

Just like the "I DO" till death and beyond unless internet dies.

Little tricky if they get divorced do

Already purchased the domain INVITETO.nl so its not only for weddings

I agree and it's the same feedback I have had from many girls.

They see this kind of thing as cheapening their wedding day experience... and I can totally understand that.

There are some things where technology is just not needed.

One selling point would be that all the guests will have all the info they need with them at all times. From out of town, click on the location page to bring up Google maps for turn by turn directions to the wedding / reception. Whip out your phone to see where the gift registries are. Or if they want list the gifts they want on the mobile site.

Sure some will consider it to be in bad taste. Some will love it. That's why some people get married in a cathedral and some get married by an Elvis impersonator.

You can get anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want.
Losers fail and quit. Winners fail until they succeed.
Indecision is worse than the wrong decision. You can fix a wrong decision, you can't fix indecision.

Update - Here's someone who provides "Instant Candids".

Instant Candids! - Lehigh Valley Wedding Photographer | Jenn Roberts Photography

She charges $499 for 2hrs of snapping Candids. The photog then makes all the shots 4x6 and puts them into a CD.

Now...why couldn't you....
1) set up a Mobile Site for a wedding
2) place a QR Code (plus the URL) linking to the site and print the Code on the back of Printed Invitations

Charge the Bride & Groom $499 for 2 hrs etc?

Hmmm I guess it will depend on what women you are dealing with as most we deal with have actually loved getting rid of the whole paper invitation thing or have just sent paper invitations to the older folk.

Of course if your mum is involved and comes from the old school you are correct but things change and lots of young women are looking for convince and community over tradition.

Some have used QR Codes to link to a specific facebook page so everyone can upload their photos and videos.

The thing is there are no absolutes and every time you try to make them you will limit your possibilities.

We women means you however there are a huge number who do not think like that.

I like the idea, but I think it would have to be in conjunction with paper invites for sure. You could have a small QR code and a web address on them for those w/o a smart phone. They could then scan the code or go to the site for more information on hotels, gift registry, directions, the ability to rsvp and more that would be seen as a help to the guests of the wedding. I don't see the bride seeing something like that as "cheap".

I also would not charge them for the service, but instead like others have suggested charge a small fee for the places listed in it, such as hotels, the reception hall, the catering company, etc. So now it doesn't cost them anything to be more helpful to their guests.

You could also build up a list of auto opt-in businesses that anytime someone has a wedding with anything to do with them they are automatically included and you can just send them an invoice with the link so they can see they are in fact included in that wedding site.

I don't see it being a replacement for invitations, but an added bonus where you could put all of the wedding specifics in one place for the guests.

Here is a easier way to capture these potential wedding couples.
Build a free mobile site for them with all infos they want.
The good thing is that as it's free you tell them that you add amazon and other affiliate link for gifts that their guest will buy on your mobile site for them. You earn comission and I can tell you it can go $$$ fast because when they love a friend they usually spend $$$$

Now they have the option for no affiliate link and will be fee.

Hope you get it!

Re: Weddings Go Mobile

I've just discovered this thread, and done a mock-up of my own.
I've done it as more of an information sheet, rather than a straight substitute for the traditional invitation.

Header image came from Tyrabelle (post #103) Hope she doesn't mind - if so, Tyra, pm me and I'll delete it.

Template came from Quentin's WSO (Premium blue, from memory)

I figure I could do a deal with a hotel for the "accommodation" tag.
Gift registry would link to an affiliate site, provided the couple agree.

I'll use Don's idea of taking it to a jeweller's shop - offer them, say 50% to promote it via a brochure with QR code to the mock-up url.

This is only my first attempt, took me less than 20 minutes, so I'm happy to accept feedback, criticism etc., as I know it isn't perfect.

Yes, but at $99 sell price, I would not entertain it, it is too much work for too little reward. Even if you got the upsell for both iphone and android at $199, I wouldn't look at it - however......

An option could be to get the store that gift registry is located at to pay for their link say $99 and the location (hotel) $99 and you could even get the photographer to pay $99 for a link to their site....now we are talking! $397 upwards.

Not sure about the invitation thing. Weddings are still traditional, that is the very essence of why they still exist.
BUT, I do like the idea of having a mobile site for a wedding (you could just host it on a sub domain temporarily on your own site). Good way for the guests to get all the info, date, location (Google Maps), and as others have mentioned, the gift registry etc. You could also charge the suppliers to advertise on the site (photographer/caterers etc.)
Wouldn't brides (and even grooms) jump at the chance to have their very own wedding site?

Sponsored by whom you may ask? How about from the services the couples engaged.

Since the mobile wedding site will be going out to a lot of people, friends and family members, these wedding services might want to promote their products or services in-front of these people. What better way then to co-sponsor the mobile wedding site.

Eg. You can charge $100 for each sponsors. Just add links to the navigation menu and create a simple one page for each of them.

Or, just include one navigational link to the sponsor page and put all the sponsors in that one page.

Example of co-sponsors, and imagine the possibilities from just one mobile wedding site. Maybe a good target is a minimum of three co-sponsors and you will already make $300.

Photographers - $100
Videography - $100
Caterers - $100
Floral - $100
Musicians - $100
Salon - $100
Limo - $100
Hospitality - $100
Jewelers - $100
Realtors - $100

I was thinking of a win-win situation where everybody benefits.

1. The bride and groom get to have a mobile wedding site with no money out of their pocket.
2. Wedding services get to promote their products/ services to hundreds of people for very little money. Is $100 affordable & reasonable enough for them?
3. And you got paid for your services, and maybe more!

Think about it. If you were to just sell one mobile site, you will profit from only that one sale of maybe around $300. But if you get a lot of co-sponsors, you might make more than that.

Here's an idea for an upsell..

A neat trick would be to have a free link to their company's website.

Once the couple's wedding site is done, contact or email the sponsors and briefly mentioned that their standard website is not mobile-friendly. From there, maybe we can upsell them a full mobile site.

What's your take on this? Is it possible and will it be accepted by all party involved?

I love your idea!!!

But I would combine it with Don Alm's idea to contact the jewelry stores that sell the engagement rings first.

Then I will offer to give the jewelry stores free advertising on the mobile wedding website if the jewelry store will give my contact information & flyer to the future groom and bride.

Then I would proceed as you had suggested above and offer the service free to the future groom and bride and ask the different vendors for payment to advertise on the wedding mobile website.

You and Don are both giving me food for thought.

Thank you to you both!
