Hi first post here from a total newb on this great resource. I have an idea.. let's say i registered domain names of major tourist areas / citys etc with the suffix "mobile" such as parismobile, lasvegasmobile, newyorkmobile etc with the main goal of creating mobile sites for them. 1) Would SEO confuse this with mobile / cell phone sites? 2) I'd like to have buttons such as -- order pizza, order mcdonalds, order a massage, order taxi to airport etc 3) Would an app people pay 99 cents provide better income than a mobile site? I agree a mobile site is more accessable to the public as something i read WillR mention before and agree with.. but i fail to see how money can be made through a mobile site where people order food and taxis delivered to their hotel room unless a deal was done with the suppliers of those goods/services. Please tell me where i went wrong. 4) From what i can tell, the main advantages of an app compared to a mobile site is that i could have a translator built in such as google translate which would be specific for that city and i could also have fast loading maps. Sorry for the rushed post.. the more i tap it out, the more i realise a mobile site is probably better but still don't understand how the revenue side of it works without advertising. DO i have to make a proper webiste as well or can i just stick with the mobile site? I think most guys here are interested in selling mobile sites to business owners but i'd like to create a site/app for tourists visiting a particular area who would like to order food and other things delivered to their room. I could promote it with artistic QR codes in tourist maps and coasters in bars etc. Many thanks, sorry for all the questions but any input would be appreciated. I will also refine my thinking :p |

You're "close" but "no cigar"...yet! (That's an old saying) Most cities of 100k + size...."city"mobile.com has been grabbed by "directory" promoters HOWEVER....most smaller towns of 25k to 50k have NOT been taken...yet. Now...let's say you grab "dubuquemobile.com" (Duguque, Iowa has about 60k pop) (It's OPEN right now! Dec 27, 2011 at 8am Pacific) Then....you make a Directory with the first page with Clickable Links to sections; Where To Eat - Where To Shop - Services - Attractions ...etc Then....for ex: clicking on "Where To Eat" brings up "Clickable Links" with restaurant cuisine in alphabetical order (Chinese - Greek - Italian - Mexican ...etc) And...clicking on any "Cuisine Link" brings up participating restaurants for that cuisine (Chinese; Chings - Fongs - Hong Kong - etc) And....each participating biz pays YOU a Monthly Fee to participate. Your job is to advertise your "Mobile Directory". Ex: Run small display ads in local paper - place Cards in Hotel rooms On each of your Ads you place a QR Code and it's address so those without an App can just type in the URL on the phone (www.DubuqueMobile.com) and....whala....up comes YOUR Directory... right there....right ON their Phone! Now....to sell this you can hand out Cards with a QR Code...to restaurant and other biz owners, that takes prospects to your Sales Site. Note: Dave Offen has a great WSO that includes his Card design for getting sales. Don Alm |
