5 Easy Steps to Fail in Mobile
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

1) Give your product or service away for FREE

In most cases, if you ask for nothing...nothing will be the perceived value. (A free product bundled with a paid one is an exception)

2) Jump on the "Mobile Bandwagon" without educating yourself on the industry, products, services, and sales strategies.

3) Print your Sales Collateral and Forms off on your Inkjet Printer

Presentation is half the Sale...at least half!

4) Don't Diversify your Offering

Mobile is more than just a Mobile Website...or a Text Message!

5) Start Tomorrow!

Every Day, Tell yourself you will get on the phone and set yourself some appointments TOMORROW!

I'd agree with you on all points, except this one (although you did preface it with "in most cases"). I started out giving a few sites away, but in high traffic establishments, for the exposure and word of mouth. It resulted in a couple paid jobs, which in turn has resulted in referrals to others as well. I think it's all in how you approach and frame the conversation with the business owner, that results in the perceived value being offered.

I do voice over work... here's a SAMPLE

Bartering & discounting for referrals, or providing a donated site for the purpose of obtaining new business are obviously all legitimate strategies.

I put that in there, tongue in cheek, addressing those who give the sites away and just charge for hosting as a normal business practice.

I do mobile and don't give anything away. If the owner
can't se what I bring to the table, next. I have the
blueprint to take them to the next level.

You have to value you services. Nothing is free that
is worth having.

I don't go into their place of business and expect anything for free.....so they shouldn't either..
Nothing is free and I hope folks on here can embrace that and charge what they are worth and not be afraid to ask for the sale. Worst they can say is, "NO"....and that is when you kindly move on.
We have got to get a grip on giving things away. It is only going to hurt us in the end. We all have bills to pay. It is ok to make an honest living. Profit is not a dirty word....
Wish you all well in 2012!

I couldn't agree more with this statement, the amount of extra work i get when i offer my mobile service is significant... I use mobile to get my foot in the door and have the business owner come to know and more important come trust me. that is why i charge on the low end of the price tag spectrum.

When you have proven yourself more often then not business owners will ask you what else it is that your doing besides mobile marketing, that is how i get my ROI and i would suggest new marketers to be ready for that.

Anther tip would be to create a professional looking website where you have all you other services, so people can find out what other services you have. could be SEO, Fanpages, Google Places, Lead generation etc etc.

You have to think broader then just mobile websites, if you really want to make money you have to become their go to guy for all their online needs and also sent their friends and relationships to you.

That is how you build a real business that will provide you with a good living

Ahhh...the "P" word! ........LOL!!!!!
so, so true my friend!
There are folks that I really think believe this otherwise they would value their time and effort a little more and realize it is ok to charge for things!
You made me crack up on that one!!!!

3) Print your Sales Collateral and Forms off on your Inkjet Printer, Presentation is half the Sale...at least half!

Good points. Thank me I am learning lots here. Are you saying: 1/don't print your sales stuff because competition will see it? Or, 2/print your sales stuff to look more professional in front of client?

Stay tuned for my new 5r gig: "me so horny, me love you long time 5 dollar..."

Choice 2...

Inkjet ink is not as vibrant and the minute it gets even remotely damp it will smudge and run...
