QR Code - Flamming Fun!
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

So, FYI, I am bias towards QR Codes. I have extensive experience in Direct Mail Marketing and Selling Print Collateral. So yes I am a fan boy.

Im seeing all these negative comments about QR Codes. And I wanted to take the time and point out some of my favorite trolling comments.

Putting on flame retardant suite**

1) No one knows what QR Codes are, only 6% to 10% of smartphone users use them.

Lets see, 600K Android phones activated each and every day. Let's split it and work with 8% of smartphone users using QR. So we can assume that 48K at the least are aware of them and know how to use them...daily. That comes out to 1.4+ Million people a month that are at least aware and know what to do with QR. Remember this is just the Android market. And we started with 6%-10% are using and I'm giving you 8% that at least know what they are and know how to use them.

2) It's such a hassle to use QR Codes. first you have to pull your phone out of your pocket, unlock your phone, scroll through pages and pages of apps to find a qr code reader, press the app icon, wait for app to load up, then hold my arm out, wait for the lenses to focus, once the code read, I have another button to press, then wait for the page to load up. I mean I rather just type in a website.

OMG, really? Why can't you preset the app right next to the app you use to access the internet? Let's break down the process of just typing the address instead of scanning a QR. first you have to pull your phone out of your pocket, unlock your phone, scroll through pages and pages of apps to find the browser app, press the app icon, wait for app to load up, then hold my arm up to my face, then look over to the ad with the website address, remember it (lets hope it's not a funny word I've never seen before like "Meyowza" or I might have to look twice to make sure Im spelling it correctly) then type it in to the address bar...wait each letter is button, damn. Oh and sometimes I have to use both hands to type the domain name faster which requires me to bring my other arm up to the phone that is next to my face, then I have another button to press to launch the website, then wait for the page to load up. I mean I rather just scan a QR code

Just because you have had a bad experience with QR Codes or you don't have the ability figure out how to market them creatively. Doesn't mean that it's not a serious contender in the Mobile Marketing Industry.

I am a fan of QR codes as well. Let's hope that many more marketers hold on to their negative opinions of QR codes though.. I'd rather that than have everyone jump onboard and have to compete against multitudes. The less of them marketing QR codes, the more business I take..

First world problems.. it used to be a chore to get up from the couch to find the remote and change the tv channel and now people have become so lazy that opening an app with just their fingers and minimal thought has become a somewhat huge chore just describes the world we have become.. lol.

So true what they say about the information age quickly disappearing into the attention age ... in fact, did we even have an information age? lol

Qr codes are awesome and most companies do NOT know how to use them! They continually drive their qr code to a "desktop" website or facebook (fb mobile does not show applications) page. tsk tsk tsk

They NEED mobile sites...
