Of course a smart phone can view a desktop PC, that's NOT the problem. The issue is in usability, speed of access, prioritization of information for mobile users.

That's why several warriors have recommended that you use the non mobile site as a selling point. Show the customer what a crappy job his regular site does when it comes to a smart phone. Then show him how a (sample) mobile optimized site looks in comparison.

You can get anything you want if you help enough other people get what they want.
Losers fail and quit. Winners fail until they succeed.
Indecision is worse than the wrong decision. You can fix a wrong decision, you can't fix indecision.

Smartphones can view all the different kinds of websites however the viewer will have to scroll and zoom for desktop websites and that's why we build mobile friendly sites.

It depends on how smart the smartphone is....not all those who claim can do everything can really do ALL....

Remember that most companies would promise the heavens just to attract consumers. Just make sure you know what you really want to get before getting something in the market. Ideally, don't rush yourself in buying phones during their launching period....get it when there is a consumer review already.

I absolutely agree with Mary, it is very important to see and compare different consumer reviews from different people so that you will know the true reliability of the phone before you make your final decision. It's hard to regret what you bought especially when it's expensive, like smartphones usually they are really expensive.

I experienced using a smartphone, it can view the sites like what desktop/laptops can, but the only difference is, you have to adjust like zoom and scroll. Anyway, it's still cool and very portable especially when you're always on the go.

It depends on what you mean by "ease".

If there was no need for a mobile friendly site (which should be far more fast, much less in size and much more user friendly), none of the major players such as Google, Facebook and Amazon would serve their content on a mobile friendly site for smartphones.

It's also the content and layout, mobile users have different needs to the person sitting at their PC doing a search .
The mobile users want speed, instant gratification, useful immediate helpful information that helps them NOW and not 5 pages into the site

I think the best way to go at this is to have both mobile and desktop/classic versions of the websites enabled ...so smartphone users can have the option to view either version depending on their preferences...

I never use ANY "mobile" site on my smartphone.

Really irks me when they load automatically sometimes.

There is a BIG difference between the mobile user who is just surfing the Internet and someone who has a specific goal. If you were walking to your car trying to order a pizza online I don't think you would be complaining about the fast and easy to use mobile site. If you were locked out of your house in the pouring rain looking for the number of your local locksmith, I don't think you would be complaining about their mobile site that jumps up on the screen and has a button you can hit which instantly calls that business. If you were broken down on the side of the freeway trying to get hold of your mechanic, I think you would appreciate the fact their mobile site jumps up and loads super fast.

My point being that you WOULD actually appreciate mobile sites, you just haven't been in any circumstances where you have needed them. That's doesn't mean others don't...

The fact Twitter, Google, Facebook, Wikipedia, eBay, and the like all have mobile sites, just goes to show people do appreciate having them.

I have no idea which mobile sites you've visited and didn't like but your comment makes me think that you've come across poorly created mobile sites up to now. Because, I think if a visitor (such as you) doesn't prefer the mobile version, it means that the mobile version failed to do its job.

but even with the most powerful smartphones today, you would still need to scroll left and right as the screen is simply not large enough....if you zoom out the content would too small in size and thus not click-friendly......

the whole purpose of mobile sites is to make it easy for you to navigate and look for the most important and relevant information..

If you want more detailed info, you can always view from your tablet/laptop/deskptops at a time more convenient for you , unless you do not mind zooming in and out ....and scrolling left and right....
