I have created with my JV partners a few apps for the Android market over the past few months. I wanted to share with you what I have learned and observed about ranking in the Android Market. There is no science to this, just my observations from split testing. You will also find there is not much on this subject out there. 1) Keywords are important. You need to put them in your title and your description. They even help if someone writes them in your reviews. I try to put my focus keywords in the description at least three times. 2) Download numbers. On the Android Market, contained within the description of the app is the number of downloads. They are posted in different groups (<10, <100, 100-500, 500-1000 etc...) Whenever we crossed into a new bracket, the daily number of downloads increased by at least 15%. 3) Reviews: The biggest game changer. If you want your app to get the most exposure, it needs to be GOOD! On days that we received positive feedback on our apps, we would see download numbers increase by up to 40% that day with a residual for a few days afterwards. In our charting we saw the biggest spikes in downloads on these days. If you are an android developer, you should try to incorporate functions that encourage the user to rate the app. 4) Icons: They need to look professional and really catch the users eyes. We split tested a few icons and it really makes a difference. In the end it all comes down to popularity. If you have a lot of downloads and great reviews you will rank high in your categories as well as for your keywords. |

Additionally you may give then trial period or test a free version, so that they can access it thoroughly and recommend the game to others. Your main skill should be very attractive , elegant and functionality should be user-friendly.
