Mobile is surely the next big thing, as penetration of mobile increases, its going to be increasingly important for new businesses. There is a lot of scope in terms of providing services over mobile platform. Mobile may be uniform medium for everything we do over internet today.

Mobile Marketing is really opening doors for those who are into this industry, I see so many postings that it doesn't work, but unfortunately I can't say the same , specially with all this APPS being launched everyday, and now this brand new one coming up that is expected to be bigger than whatsapp, pinterest, faceebook and instagram together.

I've been into thee wireless industry for quite long time and I have seen Google went Mobile, Apple went Mobile.

Mobile is Definitely the next big Thing (No doubt), 85% off the people nowadays
use their mobile devices than their laptops.

Smart phones technology can't be compare with just another wireless gadget. People are more into mobile applications and prefer wireless internet rather than using desktop for checking emails etc. Mobile application Technology is getting bigger each day and soon is going to share the biggest part in the marketing world.

As i said in another post from my own marketing ratings m-commerce explodes daily with one obstacle ahead. People are still afraid to do big money purchases through their smartphones. When this obstacle is passed, and that will happen with much better mobile security suites then the purchase fear will go away. Then we will be talking about a multi-trillion $ industry.

I agree that mobile is important to understand because of it's implications in a number of areas including how best to present content. However, I'm a little skeptical about "mobile websites" being a must-have for businesses and marketers everywhere. I think responsive design is as important as the next guy, but, mobile devices are getting to the point where they are more desktop alternatives rather than something that needs too much special catering. I carry an Galaxy S3 and a BlackBerry Z10 and the latter browser's HTML5 support is better than Chrome on my desktop. "Reader" mode on BlackBerry 10 makes almost any website easy to read. At some point, I just wonder whether people might be better off focusing on making sure the traditional marketing elements are strong a little more than worrying about mobile presentation.

In regards to all the SMS/TXT schemes and push messaging and such, I think we'll see legislative and technological barriers erected very soon. The mobile space is a lot less "wild west" than it seems...

As a Web developer and a smartphone user, I'd go for responsive every time.

I hate most mobile sites with a vengeance! They are usually a very cut-down version of the main site and as such lose much of the attraction. Yes, it's done for a purpose, faster loading, less data cost, etc. but I always feel cheated! At the very least, mobile site owners should have a link to their main site, which should be responsive. Very few do.

Responsive sites that I build display much the same across all devices and screen sizes and as a user, this is what I prefer. I always optimize images totally, to reduce data usage for everyone, not just mobile users, but as the cost of mobile data usage falls this won't be as imperative as it is at present.

As for users doing everything on a mobile phone? Well, if you're young and have amazing eyesight and dextrous fingers and want to be forever zooming in and out and scrolling side to side, then do it all on mobile, but I like to see everything properly and listen to music on a good sound system with a HUGE bass and watch videos on a decent size screen.

My 2 cents!

I'd be curious to see which industries in e-commerce have most effectively made the switch to m-Commerce. I would expect that services more than commodities would be what people tend to purchase via their phone, but have no proof.

In the US, are their payment processing systems that allow you to have a charge billed to your phone bill?

m-commece will be huge as soon as NFC will be comon in store and more generally in consumers mind. You need to pay with your smartphone anything like ticketing (subways, parking,...), purchase products without the need of a sales person like Google wallet and other credit card supported machines (vending machines, in store products...)...
Now if you are talking about pure online than m-commerce is actually working great for orders, virtual and non-virtual products (ebooks, DVD, books: amazon, best buy...) I don't have stats here but m-commerce is not really adopted by consumers at this time but can see growing fast.
The reason is because smaller screens of smartphones gives less atractive pictures than regular desktop or tablet size screens, when we know a picture worth thousand words it is true! People prefer to wait till they get their tablet, notebook or desktop computer to make a purchase rather than smartphone.

Now what is selling at best are mobile apps of course, you need your mobile to purchase these apps in most case.

I never heard of U.S. payments over the phone like it exist in europe (France, UK....) mainly because of several phone operators and laws and regulations that are different in the U.S. and Europe. Maybe someone here can disagree with me so waiting for your reply.

Mobile certainly is 'the Big Thing Right Now' however, looking around the forum a lot of folks supplying mobile are struggling to sell these services.

Remember, a lot of these biz owners need to be educated on the benefits of having a mobile friendly site, especially biz owners in the restaurant business, any biz like this needs and should have a mobile friendly site for obvious reasons.

Anyway, if you are a warrior struggling to sell your online services to bricks and mortar businesses check out my link in my signature, that may sound like a promotion, and yes it is..!

However, you have nothing to lose AND you're guaranteed to gain a HUGE amount...

No, .mobi have no value added in term of SEO to Google eyes. The only benefit will be to make the difference with a .com.

I always use QR-codes and redirect for my clients that have a .mobi but in many case when the standard website .com was designed by my competitor, they won't give me access to the FTP to add the redirect code, so I suggest .mobi to my client.

Absolutely. Businesses who get it already know that most consumers use primerely their smartphones to access the web. If they can put an icon in front of the customers on their phones the chances are much higher that they will use their services. Also push notifications have a much higher opening rate compared to emails.

mobile has really boomed and will continue w/ the larger screen phones. my old iphone3 not so much, my new galaxy note2? much more mobile based for me. I can't believe Apple is so stupid not to roll out larger phones to compete w/ the droids.

As critical mass builds for mobile, accumulated education of people on using mobile will just further its reach.

it'll get even better as user input methods improve such as voice to text and voice command. The note2 voice to text is quite accurate as I rarely have to type anything in anymore.

Lol... you're exaggerating things! 30% is not to belittled as it is still a huge market to get sales from.

Mobile marketing, video marketing, they all are the next big thing! BUt it's still an unknown terrain and it would take some times or years before we finally accept this truth.

That's a very good question...I actually use mobile marketing to generate leads. Howwever, it can be very expensive. You can burn $50 in just minutes. On the other hand, if you want to market a local business in a big city, it can be very helpful. Not many businesses know how to run effective mobile marketing campaigns and you can use this as a competitive advantage...

I just read this today:

"And with the smart phone and mobile app BOOM
now in full effect, there could not be a better time
for you to profit from what you are about to learn!"

I've been hearing about this mobile 'boom' for years now, it's not new. Though is it somehow more fully boomed today than it was a year ago?

just keep in mind the number of people who use mobile phones, they almost have it in their hands all the time.

We are betting pretty heavy on it. It IS the best way to reach customers. Everyone has a cell phone handy in NYC and most other metropolitan cities. Its applicable to a LOT of different verticals. The only question is how to do it BEST !

I think you are absolutely right. Most mobile phone screens are too small to do much except quick searches and updates. Tablets and laptops however are increasingly popular and it is they which will replace PCs for sheer convenience.

With more and more people using smartphones, it's fast become one of the most effective ways of marketing. I don't utilize it do much right now, but I've tampered with it in the past and it's quite interesting. I think in a few years from now mobile marketing will be extremely popular.

I believe the present round of stats are proving that more people are surfing the net on their smart phones than their PCs. Yes mobile is absolutely the future and with respect to marketing, right now it is where IM was in the early 2000s, remember all the millionaires the golden age of the IM had made So if you are an early adopter you really are being smart with your money. There are TONS of opportunities that no one is looking into - apps, mobile specific CPA and mobile PTC (Paid To Click)/GPT (Get Paid To) offers to run with here.

I agree with you on this, mobile demand will continue to grow especially when the networks can provide a better network coverage and faster speeds. It won't be long before we are already there and moving onto the next stage.

But I use my computer still..... lol

I don't think mobile marketing will replace any old form of marketing. Just add to it. Mobile marketing is a powerful tool definitely but newspapers still work..... hahaha

All you need to know is that there are over 1 billion smartphones in circulation worldwide and that number is expected to reach 3 billion in 2015, according to "Digital Age"

I'd say, yes it is. They way mobile market has grown from last couple of years, it has set a benchmark for app developers and advertisers. Nowadays, it is one of the hot topic in every forum. I've seen people browsing on their cell phones while they watch TV or listen music. And stats of last 5 years gives brief idea on it.

I stil prefer computer over mobile, at least at this time. But do feel that mobile will be the next big thing in the near future! Not all mobile apps have all the tools available to do what you need to do

Mobile usage has exploded and is growing at such a rapid rate it's insane! It's such a fragmented market and basically the wild wild west. Starting now you can still get your foot in at the ground floor, the amount of volume out there with the ROI's marketers are able to generate is really impressive. International offers are the way to go.

I agree that a lot of people use their mobile devices/iPads for searching and watching videos on the web. It definitely is quicker than pulling out the laptop all the time. But with that being said, doing others things like working a business that's using a lot of cut and pasting and typing the pc's are still the easiest and quickest way to "move around" from one application to another. But that to will probably change in the future . . .
