Why are you charging so low for mobile website?
Share on:

From what I have gathered, most of you charge under $500 for a mobile website. Why? That's way too cheap imo.

Mobile websites should cost as much as a regular website. I assume most of you are using those mobile website generates online that does it for you in
10 min?

Why not create custom mobile websites and charge more for businesses that can afford it?

Discuss.

I agree. People are charging way too low considering these are just as tedious if not more so when creating and redirecting to mobile. I charge no less than $500 (when on sale) and regular price is $997 up to 10 pages plus monthly maint fee which includes updates, changes, coupon drops, qr codes, etc.

It's relative to the market. We charge less if the Client is using other services we offer. We also have tiers...starting at 3 pages and going up. All depends on how much time & effort is required and pricing is different for every project.

What an interesting post! What you've identified is the simple fact that most Offliners don't understand basic sales principles.

Instead of adding value, their only tool is to discount the price. This just teaches prospective customers to chase the lowest price. Shouldn't the goal be a better site for delivering leads?

Prospects need to hear that "Mobile websites look simple, but are difficult to design: so many screen sizes; they need dynamic adjustment (when the device is turned on its side);" etc, etc.

They think: wow, and it only costs $500

HypeText, you're contributing to this! You already have the customer: they trust you to deliver or they wouldn't have already bought from you! Instead of giving them a 'cheaper' price, you could give them (say) 2 extra pages for the same price.

More value for the same price = happy customer AND benefits your own bottom line.

I think you might have gotten the wrong idea...

We are in NO way contributing to the problem of services being devalued. In fact I am a firm believer in building value. We give away nothing, however we do offered tiered pricing as a convenience to the client.

By having a 3 tier pricing model we offer a bare bone mobile site, a moderately priced package, and a full blown "all the bells & whistles" package that will probably be more than they need, and of course make a point that the bare boned package won't serve their needs.

This is a time honored sales strategy that has been utilized successfully for many years in many different market verticals.

Doing it this way means that 90% or more of our clients go for the mid priced package which gives them value for their dollar and turns us a nice profit.

We also have bundled pricing which encourages them to make use of other services.

For instance, they might buy a Mobile Website without Mobile SEO Services and pay more for the site, but if they purchase Mobile SEO along with the Mobile Website we give them a "slight" price break.

I think for you to say that we are contributing to the problem without even knowing our pricing model or strategies is a little bit harsh.

I disagree with your post.

1. not everyone is using Duda style for clients but most do custom design.
2. you can't price a mobile site same as regular for several reasons: graphic, time, content seo of a regular website is greater than mobile.
3. you can do business with a regular site and without a mobile site not the opposite.

I charge 2-300 for a single mobile page. BUT I'm also selling the custom QR first, then coming back to sell the mobile page. To mobilize an entire site for all the formats (unless it's already on the Wordpress platform, lol) I would charge anywhere from 1000-5000 depending on the complexity of the site. To make one from scratch would probably be around the same, maybe more maybe less depending.

Oh and at the moment, I give away all the bells and whistles free to build value.
