I didn't know what appcat was earlier, but WOW they present their product in a beautiful way!

I know this doesn't answer your question, but I'm just saying :D

Appcat is $99 for developers license and unlimited site builds. Its not really an app but a bookmarked web page, which is fine for local businesses and you don't have to wait for app store approval. Their claim to fame is that you can build an app from your iPhone.

The only challenge with Appcat is that all their sites look the same (only 2 main templates and 2 sets of buttons), you run the risk of your clients finding out you used Appcat, and their sites are sort of in limbo between the mobile site and app world since you can't view the site without saving the bookmark to your desktop first (making it harder to use for the casual website visitor - and who knows about SEO).

Finally, you may find it difficult to charge for hosting since their sites are hosted on Appcat's servers.

Its still a promising solution.

I believe the creation app is iPhone only. I'm not sure why android phones couldn't see the resulting content since its basically a bookmarked website but if it is iPhone only that's definitely a strike against them. I just read that Android has about 39% of the smartphone market (iPhone 28%, Blackberry 20%, Windows Mobile 9%) as seen here: Android Users vs. iPhone Users - The Demographics | AnsonAlex.com

Maybe an android user could verify by trying one of the demos on the app cat page from their phone.
Featured Apps. App.Cat - Create stunning iPhone apps in an instant

To me it points to the fact that mobile websites are further up the food chain in terms of marketing than apps.

I just can't see a real use other than novelty or to satisfy someones ego in its current state.

You need an iPhone or iPad to see mobile content.
Android devices users willl see a generated mini-site.
I am a user and it generates nice Apps.

Re: Someone is using Appcat?

So the Android users see the generated webpage and not the actual app as it is viewed by a iphone?
