Here is a simple way you can improve your own conversions (or for your clients with SMS marketing). After stating your offer in the SMS message, simply ask the subscribers to click on a link (to a mobile page) in order to retrieve a coupon, or to get more details. You can use bit.ly for this purpose The thing is, sometimes 160 characters (or less if you add the "STOP" info to comply with regulations) are not enough to let the subscriber understand the value of your offer. So you can tell them more on a mobile page! Crazy simples! Here is the best part: You can run a test with your client to see what happens, for say a week. After improved results it shouldn't be too hard to upsell a recurring mobile hosting => extra cash to buy whatever you want! |

What % of people wouldn't be able to get the coupon because of a lack of smart phone vs everyone being able to get the message normally?

Yeah, this is hooey. Each time you add a step you make the process more difficult to complete and your response rate will decline. If you want to send an image of a coupon, find an SMS platform that allows you to send coupon images directly to your list via MMS |

I disagree. IMO the most effective use of SMS will be simple messages that are the offer or coupon. They are the ones I convert and use. A local fast food place sends me coupons and deal reminders a few times a week. trust me those texts make me think of eating there. I likely eat their twice as often as I normally would because of those texts. |

The thing is what appears more difficult to you may actually be more effective. Now, in real estate and other sophisticated markets this is actually necessary. If all you're after is moving "stuff" off the shelves 160 characters may be enough. On the other hand, if you deal with higher priced items you must establish a relationship and provide information. Think about it this way: you scan a QR code (a cumbersome process for most people) and redirected to a URL. So this is a simpler way to get people to a mobile page - using SMS. By the way, I always tend to use complex marketing models that give me extra edge - I guess not everybody needs that level of execution. | |
