SMS Marketing Messages

Hey guys,

I'm new to Mobile marketing and I'd really appreciate it if you guys could throw a dog a bone here and point me in the direction of some message templates perhaps to be used when contacting local businesses about your SMS Marketing service?

I mean you have the obvious one like "Hi, my name's Dan. I currently offer a SMS Marketing service for clients in the area of X and was wondering if it's something you've though about? I will be calling you tomorrow at X if you'd like to discuss this more or alternatively you can call me at X between the hours of 9-5 Mon-Fri.
Thanks"

Too pushy on this one? Anything you guys would do differently?

I would rather go like this:
    Hi
Have you opened this sms immediately after you received it? If yes, you are doing what more than 90% of mobile users do. So why not target these mobile users through our sms marketing services at cheap rates and get your business a big boom.

That message is assuming you are prospecting for new SMS clients via SMS which is not a great idea. If a business owner gets an SMS from you without requesting it then they are going to think that's exactly what you are going to do with their own customers.

      Bad idea.

      Spam????

      244 characters and no disclaimer?

How many messages sent to each phone? 2 without the disclaimers. 3 with disclaimers. Boy if I were a business person and received 3 unsolicited messages, I would be pretty p****d.

Not to be harsh, but learn from the posts in this thread. Do your homework. Research. Search and Research. It takes time but it will be worth it.

That's brilliant mate! Would you not also add perhaps a link to your site to show the rates rather than just allude to cheap rates?

Set up a demo of the sms service that is specific to their niche. So if you were targetin restaurant owners, you could set up something like "text buy1get1 to "shortcode" to receive 1 free appetizer with entree purchase..."

If you are targeting real estate agents, set up a mock home for sale demo. Text "homeforsale" to shortcode, and they would get back some details or a real estate listing.

This demo is very powerful because it let's the business owner see for themselves how this sms marketing works and they'll immediately start thinking of ways they could implement this with their own business.

I have had success with taking this type of approach with direct mail. You don't have to cold call, and businesses call you back after trying the demo for themselves. Even if they try the demo, but do not call you, you will have their phone number in your SMS subscriber list, so you could then be proactive and call them to follow up. Now it wouldn't really be a cold call because you could lead with, "Hey I saw you tried out my sms service the other day. What did you think? etc"

Yeah I wouldn't text a prospect, because that definitely feels like spamming. But I do like the general wording and may use something similar

Find out if you can make a presentation to a large group of people. That way you have their full attention. If you do this you can show a massive group the all the benefits of SMS marketing.

We've done this and had great results. We approached a owner of a Social Media Breakfast franchise and ask if we could talk to that group about SMS marketing. She was more than happy to allow us to do this because they sometimes have a hard time finding speakers for these event. Also, where mobile marketing is still somewhat knew she was intrigued with what we had to say.

Long story short we've gotten a bunch of SMS account from there including an affiliate to product our services to her clients.

It's worth the effort to make this happen.

      Hey Sean,

Thats a great and creative idea! I have been looking for the best way to leverage my time with speaking to groups. I like the fact this is a social media based group. Since my sms platform is integrated with Facebook and Twitter I will have them all pull out their phones and text in the keyword to our shortcode during my presentation and then they will all receive a mobile image coupon to their phones. Not only will they see how quickly the system works but how the mobile coupon pushes out to their Facebook wall also. The kicker is the actual mobile coupon they get will have a discount offer for my services which they can use to redeem.

      Thanks Zen

    Hey Daniel,

For starters, do a quick search of the WSO section and you'll find some good PLR materials (reports, articles, postcards and flyers etc..) you could use to help sell sms marketing to businesses.

Like anpharmd09 said, consider setting up a demo and also consider offering prospects a free trial of your sms system.

We know all the stats about how effective and great sms marketing is and you can try to get someone to give you their time to educate them, but there's nothing better than a free trial where you can show them first hand and prove to them how well sms marketing works.

    Cheers,

    Steve

I like the demo idea, I think what it comes down to is just talking to people, some will say yes, some will say no just talk to some business owners and you will sell your services.

That's one of the most important lessons to be learnt in any type of sales. Some people will say yes and some will say no. The more people you contact the more people will say yes, and the more people will say no. It's just a numbers game.

I email and also when I meet people, tell them to look at a couple of videos I did about how to grow business the right way. Social media is all hype, everybody has a mobile phone, mobile marketing is accountable - and I will help them. I wouldn't try doing their job without help, give me a try!

Try this it works for me:

I noticed you recently did a daily deal and I am writing to you in relation to it. Many small businesses do not make full use of the new customers they are getting from these offers. Having spent a LOT of money putting out the offer you really must get your return on it over time.
"The customer you have is the customer who knows you and is the customer you should work on to get more business"

Nothing works better than texting done correctly! Social media is all hype. Everybody has a mobile phone and provided they are not bombarded with texts they are more than willing to hear from you.

I would like to meet you and discuss this futher, I have been doing mobile marketing over 4 years and have example to show you of customers that I work with.

Provided the price is right, I am the sort of person that likes to get someone to do what they do --- rather than me doing my best to try and do it as it saves me time and makes my life easier. Are you like me?

Why would you tell someone social media is all hype? I would never make a negative claim to any potential client no matter how I felt personally... risky... they may like social media. Also let me ask, do your text messages go viral... I think not! Social media marketing is fantastic just like text marketing is. Both just need to be done correctly!!!

Sorry Adwizard, but SMS Messages are, In Fact, WAY more Viral than Social Media will ever be.

In fact SMS even has the ability to integrate with Social Media to increase its effectiveness.

I agree that bashing other mediums is not a good idea, but it would seem that you don't have all the facts on SMS either.

Of course there are times when you have to "Believe the Hype"!

(Sorry, I couldnt resist the opportunity to slide that one in there! lol)
