Any advice- I am stuck
Share on:

I have already worked out how to make mobile websites using artisteer but i have another major problem that's giving me a real headache.

Once the site is built and i then need access to the customers main site to install a redirect code- this is where i get lost even after reading lots of info on the subject.

I know that i must install a redirect code somewhere(don't know where)and what is the code that is used to achieve this?

Are there any tutorials (video would be great) or courses that explain this in detail, as at this point unless the customers site is built on anything other than wordpress(i use a plugin) i cannot do anything for them as i don't know how.

Many thanks to anyone who can point me in the right direction.

The Redirect Code goes in between the Head Tags on each page of the site.

There are several different types of code that can be used to initiate the redirection once the code recognizes the site is being accessed via a Mobile Device.

Since Artisteer enables you to create webpages in a number of different CMS and Programming styles it's impossible to give you a proper script without that information.

If it was a HTML site, then there's code you'd have to put in before the closing head and body tags that redirects to the mobile version of the site (either a sub-domain or a .mobi). This is usually on the index.php file

Thats the case with just about ANY Site...but the codes are not necessarily interchangable.

If the site is XHTML, or if its ASPX or if it's PHP...you will need a different code for each.

The code doesnt just go on the Index Page. Its always a good idea to embed it on everypage of the site as people may elect to pull specific pages of the site.

If you Google it, there are plenty of sites where you can learn about the redirect codes. Another option is outsourcing that part until you learn it for yourself. But, it's a good idea to learn it for yourself so you won't have to depend on others!

I would love to learn how to do it myself, how will i know whether the site is xtml/php etc?
There obviously is not one code that fits all.

What about Quentin and Willr, you guys sell these courses on how to build mobile sites. Do you also give instruction on how to install the redirect. If you do then i am willing to purchase the course just for this info as i am getting frustrated now.

Thanks for the replies so far, any more

Cheers

I have Quentin's course and it does go over the redirect script briefly. I have the scripts working on a few different sites without any real issues. I'm pretty sure that Wordpress sites just use a plugin...anyone?

Just pull up the site and go to one of the pages.

For instance www.sitename.com/pagename.html would be HTML, if its pagename.php then its PHP, etc.

Have you purchased from any of them? I can tell you your answer is found in them. For building sites from scratch, I found Quentin's program suited my needs more. For the redirect question, Will's is the one I use. Hope that helps
