SMS Contracts
Share on:

Good Afternoon!

When a customer signs up for an sms marketing campaign, should there be a minimum when signing a contract?

I don't want to scare away the client with a long tedious contract, but my thinking is it takes time anyways and it's more of a guarantee. Maybe a 3 month minimum?

Thank you for your help!

It all depends how involved you are with the clients marketing efforts. We don't do contracts and offer a 30 day money back guarantee. It works because of our price points.

I've seen others offer 30 days free to prove that it works.

Most providers don't tie you to a contract so if things go south with your client then you're not on hook for a long time contract with your provider.

A business owner would most certainly be at ease to know he is not tied to a contract.

However, I'd think that if you did things right, then they wouldn't have the need to cancel.

That is going to depend on your business model. Most providers simply go month to month but there are a few that offer discounts for longer commitments.

The thing is, people don't like contracts. Just take a look at how people regard contracts for their mobile phone, their satellite TV, etc.

There is no need for business, to tie customers in for contracts. If you provide a good service and price, they will not leave. There would be nothing worse, as a business to have clients, wanting to leave your business, and you telling them they can't go.

I recommend the month to month model, which offers flexibility and a feeling of not being tied into a contract.

It depends on what you want to include in the contract. Personally, I think month to month is the best way to go and I agree that if you provide exemplary service, the client will stay with you. Now, after having said that, I also think that a short, everyday English (or whatever your language is) Agreement will go far with a client if only it states:
---What is expected of you
---What is expected of of the client
---Is favorable to both parties
---When payments are due and what will happen if they are not paid on time
---What will happen if your the provide don't live up to your expectations
---Etc.

Just make the Agreement (notice I didn't say Contract) not leagaleese, but very simply worded and I think the client will appreciate the fact that he knows not only what is expected of him/her, but what is expected of you as well.

YEaaaaaaa!!!!!! now I can pm.

I always pitch month to month with not commitments. As well you should be careful of giving a discount for paying 6 months in advance ect. Especially if you are a start up on a tight budget. If you spend that money that you received up front and they decide to quit after a month, you will be in a bad situation. Even with a 6 month agreement in place you will only be able to charge them for services rendered if they quit early and you will owe them. The best you could do is charge them your normal monthly rate for the time you provided services and refund them.

Sorry if I was rambling, its really late.
