Folks,

If I wish to start offering SMS to clients I have to select a service provider

and in order to select the most appropriate provider I need to know

what features are either essential or good to have.

What do you consider to be the must have features and why?

Any advice UK specific is welcome.

Appointment Reminders, Message Schedule, Being able to send by date for birthdays ect

I would say the most important thing you need to consider when choosing a provider would be their reliability (are they going to remain in business for the long haul) and just as important as that would be is their system compatible with your local cell carriers (if the cell carriers don't recognize your provider you have to wonder how many of your text messages are really being delivered). After those two things I would look at the features they offer compared to the cost to me of using their service.

.range of coverage with cell/mobile carriers

.message scheduling

.appointment reminders

.ability to send by date
