Meeting With Mobile Client - What Would You Say...
Share on:

Hi everyone

I've done the cold calling thing and have a meeting set up with a client. When I called him, he told me he already had a website. I then explained that he doesn't have a mobile one. So his point was "Why would I need one? None of my customers have compained so far".. So I tried to explain, but I think I waffled a bit.

I told him how on a mobile site, the details are there, they just need to click etc. He told me his details (name, number, address) are on his normal site, too. I explained the convenience factor etc, but, as I said, it was a bit clumsy.

However, despite my efforts , he has agreed to a meeting.
So, I've got a ton of queries surrounding this, but I guess the point of this thread is:

He is going to want me to 'sell' the benefits (as well as/instead of?) the features. So, I'd like some quick points I can shoot at him.

I don't mind if you state the obvious. I do appreciate the information is all over the forum, but I'd just like some bullet-point style answers.

So far, I've got:
  • Mobile sites load quicker
  • Call-to-click (although, I've found on some phones, normal text-based numbers are clickable!)
  • Mobile sites have only the relevant info (I've tied this in with explaining the fact that mobile users are after specific info - not to browse every service you offer, or your company's history)
The company is a hair salon.

So, although the mobile selling point is the main aim of this thread, I was wondering what else you'd advise me to sell to him at the meeting - and how.

I've got SMS - send texts to past customers.
Google Places - get him to claim his listing.

Thanks for all your help.

What does his current site look like on a mobile phone now? Can a visitor to the mobile site easily call, find out the hours, and the location? If not then it is useless. Just show him what it looks like on the phone.

BTW, what customers will complain about a poor mobile website? Seriously, it's not likely to happen. Unless an Internet Marketer is trying to find them on their mobile phone!

If his present site does not look great on a mobile I would build him a couple quick mobile pages as a sample... pull up his site now and show him the problems with navigation left to right... then pull up his new mobile that you just took the liberty to build and show him and bada boom, bada bing!!! WillR does have an excellent WSO powerpoint presentation that will certainly help sell the need for mobile also.

this e-commerce site for a fee:

Also depending on his niche. Some people are looking for information now. They don't want to crawl around looking for it.

Have you checked the Google keyword tool, with the advanced options set to show ideas for mobile devices? It could be that people are already searching for his salon, or "hair salons his town" on mobile devices. So you could show him the figures.

There's also this downloadable report that includes stats on how many smartphone users are searching for local services (a lot!): http://googlemobileads.blogspot.co.u...uarter-of.html
