Here's what I DON'T get about Mobile Marketing ...

I just don't understand it ... (clearly why I'm not making any money on it), despite buying what is by far the best WSO in the area by aussie Will. (Go very-helpful Will)

I have a Droid. Mrs Me has an iPhone.

Both smartphones happily call up any webpage, for any business, anywhere. No need for a particularly mobile-enabled site at all.

I spose if a business had a flash-enabled site, or one with video, my LG would struggle (dunno bout the iPhone), but other than that, no problem.

If I had an offline business (which I sorta do), with a non-mobile-enabled website (which I absolutely do), and someone came to sell me a mobile site, I'd walk out in the street and call up my business url on my LG and demonstrate how my current business website was fine for mobile phones.

Sooo ... what am I missing ...apart from the money?

Sure, your phone will call up any webpage.... but how does that webpage look on a phone vs. a mobile "optimized" page? Can you view everything without having to stretch and scroll? Does it all fit on the phone screen?

Here's an example....

NON optimized site:

Same site, OPTIMIZED

See the difference? Which site would you rather have your customers viewing?

Sure, I'm reading your reply on my phone now.

On my LG Optimus One, if I click the links in the post, there is no difference between these two sites linked to above.

I want there to be a difference, but there isn't. I get my 17 yo geek daughter to check my eyesight, she sees no discernible difference.

If I go back to my laptop, and open the links however (one to a .com and one to .mobi) there is a clear difference in the phone simulator as shown on the laptop.

Sooo ... now, I'm more confused, but thanks for replying. There's something to learn here for sure.

The phone simulator is pretty damn convincing tho ... let me look at this some more.

Ooook, now that's something.

My LG was initially going, not to Jimmy O's pizzeria (mobi or otherwise), but to Cascade Mobile Web and that is the same via either link.

If I bypass that and go straight to Jimmy O .com (non mobile) and then Jimmy O's Pizzeria (mobi version) ... NOW, there's a difference.

That's nice ... thank you, I appreciate it.

I put a redirect from the .com to the .mobi for phone users. the emulator page is designed to be viewed on a regular computer

ugh. I just tried my website on that simulator. I really really really need to mobile optimize my page. I can only imagine how frustrating it is with a thumb...I almost barfed and I have a mouse. lol.
