How To Approach Mobile
Share on:
fb share twitter share gplus share more share

Hi guys,

I have learned the process surrounding mobile websites in the last month and am starting to search for clients. I see different styles of mobile marketing in this forum, between mobile websites and SMS.

I'm curious as to the proper approach to mobile, as a beginner should I be just be trying to sell my service as a mobile website builder, and then later upsell on SMS marketing? Should I sell my service on SMS marketing and throw a free mobile website in as a bonus/incentive?

I'd just like to know what your guys' approach and most converting tactics are when it comes to this.

Please let me know, any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Darrett

Do you have prior experience as a mobile website builder? Can you show potential customers/employers a portfolio of mobile sites you've developed?

I think you'd need to show people what you can do before you can sell your services as a mobile website builder.

I have done a few free ones for people but sorry if I was vague that's not what I meant. I meant that should I be trying to work on selling them the service of me building them a mobile website, and then try and upsell SMS later? Or try and find clients for SMS marketing and throw in bonus offer of free mobile website.

Thanks for the reply

First I would sell them on the notion of new customers, which shouldn't be too hard for them to accept.

What I do is typically go after businesses that already have a good ranking in Google and don't have a mobile website. Then I explain that their customers aren't getting the important details from what they're seeing.

I show them the mobile site, and then I show them the button that their customers can click to get deals sent to their phone. When it comes time to closing I explain all the fees, design and monthly SMS.

Hope that helps.

Try both and see what succeeds better for you. The key is to get out there and take action. It seems you're not sure if you are "ready" to start. That's a hurdle you need to get over. Don't worry about rejection, go do it, and it will get easier with time as you find out what approach works better for you. If you believe in what you're offering, and are confident that it will benefit your target business, then that's half the battle right there!!

Mobile Websites are just one aspect of Mobile Marketing and quite frankly, without other services are pretty much next to innefective.

Don't panic...I am by NO means saying a business shouldnt have a mobile site...

What I am saying is without promotion of that site, thru Mobile SEO and/or Mobile PPC, that Mobile site that you sell them is going to be of very limited benefit.

The best approach, BY FAR, is to offer a suite of Mobile Marketing Services.

SMS Marketing, Mobile Websites, and Mobile Website SEO and/or PPC, or a combination thereof, is what is going to significantly benefit your clients.

Selling someone a Tire isnt going to get a carless person where they need to go...you need to sell them the whole working vehicle for it to truly benefit them.

When I do a website, I try to optimize it for mobile. However, I do try and let the client know there are other mobile only features that can bring in better customer retainment and gain!

Well said Ron! Competence breeds confidence! My only advice would be to try to keep it simple to begin with. The more spokes you try to add to that wheel at the start the more complicated you may make it for yourself, so try one thing at a time...and good luck!
