Anyone using mobile marketing?

I was browsing the net the other day and I ran across this site on Mobile Marketing. The information was very good and I was impressed with the message of the site. I had tried last year using Admod, but I did not make any money from my mobile ads.

A lot has changed in a year and with so many people using their mobile phones as their primary means to access the internet, it make sense to start looking into mobile marketing. I changed a few of my websites to make them more appealing on a mobile phone, but I have not fully gotten into mobile marketing yet.

It seems like the time is now to really take a serious look at mobile marketing, but I just haven't learn enough about it yet. Are any of you guys using mobile marketing and if you are how successful is it for you?

If you are using sites like "Mobile Marketing Magnet" to learn about mobile marketing, what advice would you give to people like me that are thinking about getting into the mobile marketing arena?

IF you were unsuccessful with AdMob which is really marketing through apps, I would recommend exploring mobile marketing through SMS texting. This has a much higher appeal to SMBs and may be a better fit for the businesses you target.

Re: Anyone using mobile marketing?

We have run a number of successful local SMS marketing campaigns. Our best success has been with a local pizzeria but we did well with real estate and also a local gym. I think there is a lot of hype in the mobile market right now because it's becoming clear just how big it really can be but it will settle down into a great market for those who can adapt to the constantly shifting business landscape. There are so many great things going on right now that you just can't tell where the next big thing is until it happens. We're witnessing a convergence of mobile and social now that has more power as a combination. A well executed mobile social campaign has explosive potential.

Mobile marketing is more then just mobile ads or mobile apps or SMS.

Its about combining all the mobile technologies together to provide your clients a turn key mobile marketing solution. Bundling Mobile Websites/Mobile App, QR Codes and SMS text marketing will give your clients great ROI on their advertising dollars.

Once you have your core services together you can take it one step further and manage mobile lead generation campaigns for your client along with mobile PPC. the possibilities really are endless.

Keep doing your research as now is an exciting time to be involved in Mobile.

At present, the amount of users of smartphone is increasing tremendously. And what it seems to me is, mobile phone is going to take almost 50% of desktop's market. That makes the market very much attractive. Now it will be brilliant to go for mobile marketing. Keep in mind that, text marketing can reach to the point and your target people will read the massage for sure. So the probability of success is higher here. As it is a growing market, you can introduce lot of new techniques. So give your time in brain storming besides hardworking.

Yes I think mobile marketing will become much bigger. It's maybe time for me to get on the wagon. Sorry I can't offer advice but will follow this thread.

The hard part is to convince businesses why they need it, remember their heads are too wrapped up in their own business to understand about internet, mobile etc..it happens even with smart business owners, personally I believe the sale is the hardest part , duh!

Re: Anyone using mobile marketing?

I highly recommend you learn about sending mobile traffic to affiliate offers.

I am currently running two campaigns that is doing quite well with mobile traffic (I will not be sharing any specifics on that, I am sure you understand). The key is to track EVERYTHING. I am talking carrier type, operating system, phone model, everything. This is because most ad networks only let you target based on category and sometimes site ID which can be very broad. You need to get every bit of data that you can in order to optimize and make your campaign profitable.

All this tracking can be done through Prosper202 if you have a fast enough server, otherwise it may be better to track through your affiliate network. The reason I say this is that when Prosper does its redirects, that can really slow the load time of your landing page on a cell phone. When this happens a lot of people will just close the page.

The exciting thing about mobile is that there is an INSANE amount of traffic available for very cheap. Once a campaign starts running it is not uncommon to get a few thousand clicks in an hour with some networks (this can be abused to your advantage if you understand overages but thats something for another time).

Ok I got a little excited there so I'm gonna stop. If you have any questions about this type of mobile marketing feel free to PM me.

Hi Prismkuet,

Agree with your statement "mobile phone is going to take almost 50% of desktop's market". Since the Smartphone users are increasing, there are expectations to receive better results from the mobile marketing activities.
According to a research the most popular forms of mobile marketing are mobile websites (70%), mobile applications (55%) and QR codes (49%). One should focus on these to grow their business.

Mobile commerce is on the rise and so is the concept of mobile marketing. Today, business owners and retailers are using their smart phones to promote their businesses, services and products. Similarly, consumers can do online shopping using their cell phones. We must give credit to shopping cart software apps to popularize mobile commerce or marketing.

Business owners are great (well, some are) at running their business. What they are not great at is getting traffic to their business away from the traditional ways of advertising that are dying a slow death.

Showing business owners from the start that they actually have a problem - rather than trying to convince them about mobile marketing is the key.

Do a basic mobile comparison demo of their current site next to a simple mobile site, has a good chance of waking them up.

Also, better to start with businesses that already are currently using some form of online advertising.

Re: Anyone using mobile marketing?

Techniques that tapping the power of mobile marketing.

1. Slow time marketing tool

If the dinner crowd is not yet pouring in at 5 p.m., Kyle may send a text message mentioning a specific menu item appropriate for the evening. He might promote a “cool summer salad” on a sweltering July day. Plus, he’ll offer an incentive for customers to show the text to their servers as a way to track ROI.

2. Special promotions with limited lead times

Mobile marketing has also been useful in solving the problem of selling fresh seafood quickly for the restaurant, since delivery dates are rarely nailed down in time for traditional promotions. But the immediacy of texting plays in the business’s favor. Kyle can alert customers to the availability of soft shell crab as soon as he is sure of its arrival and quickly receives requests for dinner reservations.

3. Piggyback on another’s app

New Town Bistro does not have its own app but has a presence on Open Table’s mobile app, which comes pre-loaded on a host of smart phones. As a result, customers can find his restaurant, view a current menu, and call for a reservation easily. Kyle has been most surprised at how this particular listing has attracted out-of-town guests.

4. Search and discovery, not mobile advertising or apps

Navin at Network Solutions tells me that many small business owners tend to think of mobile advertising campaigns or apps to promote their business when they first consider mobile marketing. But he recommends avoiding those low-ROI techniques in favor of establishing and managing a presence on free local directories and review sites. Focus on major players such as Yelp, Trip Advisor, and Urbanspoon and those ranked high in search results pertaining to your business.

Here’s what to do so that prospects can discover your business:

Claim and verify the listing as the owner
Describe your business, its products, and services
Add compelling elements such as photo reviews

5. Review sites: perfection not required

Through his marketing role with MyEyeDr and non-paid advisory gig with Yelp, Tim Gorin has learned that discriminating consumers do not expect businesses to have spotless records on review sites

What about the quality of the lists ?
Does anybody know good source of mobile nymber list of businesses in UK ?
Tried some sms marketing to test some small consumer list (bought from list broker ) , but it had only landlines (when message is read by recorded voice) and it didn`t work.

I noticed that it mobile is great for building a list and is getting more effective every day.

SMS marketing is great! I have seen some of my clients have great success with this! With redeem rates as high as 30%!

The hardest part is gaining those phone numbers but if you really put some effort into it, you will absolutely see results.

The key is to persuade the business owner of the need. It's so obvious to me how important mobile is and will be, but some people just don't get it. You need to be a true consultant and help them to see the light!

I use mobile marketing on affiliate offers, mainly because the convert is way easier. No need to PIN submit. Just need to enter some details in the app store and the conversion is made...

Re: Anyone using mobile marketing?

I think mobile marketing can be profitable only if you promote real business. I used it once, spent 50-100usd as I remembered .... got nothing. lol.
I know that testing is the key, but that's my conclusion.

I would advise you not do this in the mobile marketing space. You are going to see an abundance of opt outs and complaints immediately utilizing purchased lists. If you were to do this through short-code/true carrier grade messaging their is an extreme likelihood of the short-code getting suspended or shut off.

The most successful way to create a list of permissible numbers is by helping a business create a strong & aggressive point of sale campaign. Create some awesome advertisement that really catches a customers attention, and make sure you use it on every form of advertisement they have, even if it is just a charity ad or table tent. At this point you will build a list of customers who WANT to receive promotions from you & this will significantly decrease your opt out rates, while increasing your redemption's.
