Hi Do you install the mob site and redirect script on the clients server or do you get their "web guy" to do it The only reason i ask is building the sites is no problem but i do not want to look inept by screwing up their existing site when trying to install the redirect script. Just to be clear, is the procedure the same on every different type of site(joomla, drupal, jquery etc) or does the script go in different places on each. For example a basic java redirect script that is placed before the head tag thanks in advance |

Just use a javascript file to do the redirect. Put the JS file with the rest of the other JS files in the <head>. Best if you can install the code yourself, then you don't need to worry about the other designer. But most often small businesses don't have any of the server login info, so you will have to deal with the mainpage designer. I prefer installing the script myself, because if you go "Hey can you get your designer to put this code in" - it makes you look like you don't know what your doing. |

1. Never let their web guy do it. First of all it then presents them with an opportunity to try and steal your business. It also means they end up with your mobile website template and redirect script so they can then go and offer similar sites to their other clients. 2. If the webmaster screws up something in the process, guess who they are going to blame it on. 3. It's simple. Make a backup copy of ANY file you are about to edit on your customer site. That way even if the worst thing happened you can still just upload the original file and everything should go back to normal. Having said that, we are not doing brain surgery here. It really is a very simple cut and paste job to install most mobile redirect scripts. |

And....rather than using a "Mdot Domain" sub-domain....I prefer using a "dotMobi" domain so "I" have control of the mobile site. Don Alm |
