Someone who has done SMS for restaurants
Share on:

Hi there,

I'm trying to get a nice package deal going for local restaurants, where we can show them about the usefulness of QR's, mobile landing pages, and SMS.

Can anyone here who has sold these services to a restaurant tell me how they presented it? My partner will be approaching the restaurants for face to face, most likely opening with the QR's and scanning to mobile sample. But I'm curious if immediately talking about the power of SMS would be better. Also how do you guys calculate in a good charging rate for SMS.

Would appreciate any feedback,
Thanks

The restaurant owners I have talked to don't really care about QR codes (they are not really in everyday use here in the UK yet)

I would say sms is a much better pitch if you can help build a mobile list for them and get customers through the door this is what they want. Too many people on here are getting hooked up on the technology and tools.

1. Help them build a mobile list (Text in to get % off, buy one get one free etc)
2. Assist them with creating campaigns to send to that list.

We also send booking confirmation texts (this is a great way to build a list of opt in buyers)

Okay Darret, If you want to get a "stupid amount" of opt-ins you had better capitalize on the NBA Finals. I see your talking about QR's and thats just how I did it for the Superbowl. I used a custom QR one that looked like the Pats and one that looked like N.Y, but you don't necessarily have to, they just look way better. Just post them up and ask the restaurant goers their opinion on who is gonna win then BOOOOM! sneak the lil message in offering value and their sure to join the list. If you act fast you could possibly capitalize on the eastern and western finals but they start soooon. I promise you will wow your client. DO IT!!!

You might want to consider a "package" that includes a mobile site, mobile coupons, and an SMS marketing system all in one. Do a mobile site/coupon mockup, along with an SMS demo so they can try it out as you are sitting there with them. Keep it simple, and always gear things towards getting them new business, not the technology itself.

Ask questions.... Say "what is the best performing coupon you've ever ran?" Then explain that with SMS they can send that coupon as a time sensitive offer to XXX customer's phones and they simply bring their phone (which they carry 24/7) in to redeem it. So always refer to things that they already know and are familiar with.

One thing I notice with some restaurant owners is the high cost of running coupons in those mailers where there are 100 other businesses drowning them out. A half page ad in one of those things is $200+ per month and often the ROI is just not there at all. SMS can cut ad costs AND increase their revenue at the same time. Hone in on those 2 things and you'll get their attention.

What would you guys charge (after the free month) to broadcast a weekly sms coupon campaign? Start up fees? Do you supply the table tents, signage, etc...? I like the idea of 150$/month to start and 199$ month after 1000 people on list.. What do you think about that?

I am getting so much useful info about this from you guys so thank you.

Well, I sell a managed service. And I start at $297/month. That takes them up to 1000@4/month =4,000 text. I supply tables tents and signs.

If they do not want me to manage the campaigns, it is $297/6,000 texts.

No set up charge, I always give it free. lol But, that first month is $297, so I get mine.

Thank you guys very much for all your responses, they are very helpful.

The package is a great idea and exactly what I'm trying to do, I don't want to make it seem like I can do this, or that for you. More like how they all support each other and together build a great mobile campaign for you.

Rymico would you mind adding me on skype? Would love to talk.

Thanks again everyone,
Darrett

I love Trent@QewaRe's advice on taking advantage of the NBA finals or SuperBowl, these are great tried-and-tested campaigns indeed!!
