So, yesterday I visited three of the local non profits which my wife and I like and support. I whipped up a sample mobile site with the button to show them. Since these are charities we support, I made them a good deal. Free one page mobile site, $40/month hosting and a 4,000 managed text program for $225. When I got home, I had three commitments. So, $795 of recurring monthly income in one afternoon.

This is why I chose Lime. I would not have thought of this niche.
4000 texts, is that right? Won't you be blowing through your allowance in no time at all?

Ty, that is the whole idea. The more texts you buy, the less they cost you each. So, each account actually makes more profit than when you were on the lower levels.

When you are at the $297 for 15k level, they cost you about 2 cents each. At the $497 for 35K level, they cost about 1.42 cents each. But after that, only one cent each . So, at that level, the cost is just $40 and I am selling for $225/special. I will do that all day.

But, it takes a little while for them to get to the 4k level. And, once they pass it, their price goes up.

These are all managed packages, so I can control what goes out.

Re: Why I Chose Lime Cellular

I considered Lime too. Today in fact.

I discovered three issues with them that I didn't like, and two of those I could not overcome. Tell me how you overcame them and I will reconsider Lime.

The first issue is that text credits do not roll over from one month to the next. This is not a serious problem because I have enough accounts to use the allotted 30,000 monthly. But I don't want to migrate every account immediately, and I may waste money for the first month or two. Also, business tend to complain when their unused but paid-for text messages expire. I tried that model early on and it's no fun to take these calls when you're out trying to open new accounts.

The second issue is more serious. Their mobile websites can only be hosted as subdomains on Lime's mymobisite.us domain, or something like that. I won't do business like that. When people want to use their own domain names, I want to sell them to them. I'll continue to use another service for mobile websites.

The third issue was the most serious and killed the deal for me. Lime's US short code is 71441. When I texted HELP to it today, I got an auto response from HypeText Mobile Media.

I do not want my clients and their customers to see a competitor's name when they use "my system." And I will not pay thousands of dollars per month for any White Label Reseller program that will exposed my competitor's name to my customers.

I am not satisfied with the white label SMS vendor I'm with now, but I am not switching to LIME any time soon for these reasons.

EDIT to show that my issues may be resolved in posts #54 and #55 below

Since you said the first issue could be worked thru, I will leave it alone. It can be done, just a hassel, I understand.

Issue #2 As I understand it, Lime will transfer the domain name to a domain of your choosing. I was told this was a one time charge of $17, if I remember correctly.

Issue #3 I tried texting HELP, and did not get HYPE as an answer. I did get RYMICO help. I am guessing here, but this is my idea. You texted to Hype at some time. This would have opted you in to his list. Unless you opted out, you are still on his list. And Lime's computer sent help from the last opt in you did. I do not know if you get an answer at all unless you are opted in somewhere. If you call Lime, U.V. or Michelle can explain both of these, I am sure. I am just guessing.

Yes, I did text Hype once a few weeks ago. Thank you for answering and thanks for reminding me.

My sales rep at Lime did not know what was going on either, but he had no way to know something I'd already forgotten. If this is all it is, its a real comfort to know it can be overcome. I'll find out tomorrow.

Back to issue 2, mobile sites are not a large business line for me. But I'd like them to be. Your explanation is contrary to what the rep told me, because their platform cannot run unless its hosted on their server environment. Sure, they'll sell me an $8.99 domain name registration for $17.00. Who wouldn't?

I'm not boasting, but I need a high volume of text credits each month and an absolute minimum number of technical issues each day. I'm getting that from my current vendor, but I would like some additional performance.

I am open to more consideration if I can clarify issue 3 tomorrow.

I did not explain the domain name thing well, I guess. It can be changed to your .mobi or other domain.

I am not competent enough to do it without complete instructions. But, if you send me an email at my address below, I will copy the instructions given on their site on how to do it yourself, if you use godaddy. I use cpanel with hostgator and have not had the time to figure out how myself. I know it is easy, lol. But I am selftaught with all my computer stuff. And I had a slow teacher.

Oh, and try texting stop to 71441. Then try help. If you get nothing, try texting rymico, then help. You should get rymico help then. Then text stop to opt out

After speaking with someone at Lime about the mobile websites, yes you need to create a .mymobisite.us, but you are able to make a custom domain name and point it to the .mymobisite.us. So if you are creating clothing.mymobisite.us, you can point it to m.clothing.com. I hope that helps

Re: Why I Chose Lime Cellular

one issue I have found with providers in the uk is the caller ID, the text marketer system is quite basic but being able to send out sms and the name of the sender appears instead of the shortcode which is great. I was close to going with Trumpia but they do not offer this as an option, they seemed to think it could only be done over smtp sms. Either way to have that personalisation of the sms is great, does Lime work this way?

thanks

I believe I was told that for legal reasons in the U.S. anyway make the sms message have to come from the short code number.

In the U.S., that is what shows for Lime.

I will share my experience briefly; I spoke with a couple of different people with Lime and my concerns weren't related to the technology or platform but more of a trust issue. I asked a couple of questions I already knew the answer to and instead of answering truthfully or saying "I'm not sure, let me get an answer for you" the rep made something up, clearly lied to me, telling me what he thought I wanted to hear. I thought it might be an isolated occurrence and called back a few minutes later and got a different rep (different screen name at least) and aked the same questions... different answers, but still not truthful. I would never do business with a company I couldn't trust. When I talked with James at Avid, he not only knew the right answers but educated me on some things I didn't know beforehand. Very forthcoming and helpful.

That lead me to do a little more research on both Lime and Avid. One of the things I found out was that Limes' NY "office" was virtual and they actually have no physical presence in the US. This matters to me for a number of reasons, I prefer to keep my business with an American company and not with a middle east company with a sham US presence. The only reason to have a "virtual" office is to conceal your real location, much the same reason that home based businesses use a PO Box instead of a home address. An effort to legitimize the company I guess but misleading nonetheless.

In the month since signing with Avid they have generated much new content and marketing collateral and made updates to the platform, not sure I understand your point about Lime keeping up with the technology as they can't have done more than Avid in such a short period of time.

Give Avid a call and you will reach a live body every time, Try reaching someone at Lime, other than via their chat feature on the website. I even have the mobile numbers of 3 different, high level Avid execs. If I have a problem, our 3 hour time difference is never a problem. I couldn't be more pleased with my choice and am actually glad that Lime so carelessly eliminated themselves from contention.

If you really do your research it should be a no-brainer choice. Not to say Scott that you don't have a brain, much more likely that you didn't really know how to compare the two. I would expect that a citizen of this country would have preferred keeping their business and dollars at home. Still time for you to correct your mistake, I'm sure the guys at Avid will be just as gracious and helpful to anyone as they have been to me. Anyway... just my thoughts on the matter. And just so you can check with me if you have the desire, my name is Gary Mc Clure and my company is called HipChime. You can text GARY to 28748 and get all of my contact details.
I find it odd you didn't speak of the questions you asked and the answers you received. I also notice that you called Lime and got a virtual office in NY. A virtual office in NY means you spoke with someone in Israel, which you always referred to as a "middle east" business (which it is but carries a negative image compared to Israel).
With your recent join date, it makes me suspicious of you a little bit. Nothing personal, but are ayou a shill for Avid?

Re: Why I Chose Lime Cellular

I'd love to address your concerns. First of all, I found this forum when researching complaints about shortcode providers on another site. I was vetting Avid and Lime at the time and wanted to cover all my bases. I was suprised to see how much good press Lime was getting compared to my experience and decided to add my 2 cents on the subject. Sorry I didn't get your permission and opinion first!

Secondly, most of the strife and violence in this world comes from the middle east and Israel is certainly part of the mix (maybe you missed the article this week on the American woman who was run over and crushed by an Israeli bulldozer while protesting against further incursion into the West Bank. Oh by the way, an Israeli court determined it was her own fault!) I won't get into a political discussion here, suffice it to say, Israel is a middle eastern country, period.

I guess if promoting a company you like and talking about why you have made a choice of one company over another makes me a "shill", so be it.

I'm on nobodies payroll but my own, I pay every month for the service I get from Avid and have never received a discount, nor have I asked for one. You felt the need to reply to my post just as I felt a need to reply to another, but you choose to question my motivation and call me names. I guess an honest opinion only has value with honest people. Speaking of "Shills", the owner of Lime has been on this thread many times tooting his own horn. How vaild is that "impartial" opinion.

I have no interest in determining your motivation for replying to my honest post as you have, only that next time you have a problem with me feel free to use my contact info to reach out to me directly. I guess it's easier to chime in from the shadows.

I welcome logical debate at any time, that's why my info is provided and your's... not. But please, before you contact me, have a point in mind and a defensible position, I hate having a battle of wits with unarmed opponents.

Wow !!! The thread is called "Why I Chose Lime Cellular"

Normally in this forum we try to respect the thread ...

To make it easier why not create a thread of your own .. Called why I chose Avid ... Or Why I chose Anchor Or Why I chose txt180.

Again this is America and we do have the freedom of choice ... and honestly the better thread for this is Avid vs Lime

That is where people are looking for a honest comparison ...
http://www.warriorforum.com/mobile-m...-cellular.html

Honestly you can just join the forum ... and hijack someone thread ... it looks very suspect so for someone like me who is shopping around ...

They would like to know what are the benefits of why you choose one over the other...

I know you speak about America but everyone who is reading this thread is not in America...

There are people Canada and UK who are actually looking for a platform.

So my friend try creating a new thread telling us Why you choose Avid ... believe you will get a much better response.

This thread was very helpful. I really liked Avid but due to a number of restrictions, we had to go with Lime.

One thing with Lime though - their service is not very personable. Customer service is very very minimal.
Also, they never said anything about upload credits. Apparently, every upload costs a penny.

It's not looking too good.

Your point is well made and appreciated Jones178. I jumped right in when my search turned this forum up and hadn't paid attention to the heading. My bad. I still believe everything I've written here is valid and some of the posts here are from people still vetting their mobile partner choice, so I think varied opinions are still valid and hopefully helpful.

Hi Domino, I'm embarassed to say that I found this forum in a search for Mobile Provider Comparisons and hadn't noticed the Title of the forum when I got here. Your point is well made, but I assure everyone here my intent wasn't to "hijack" the thread. My comments about America where a reply to a specific commenter who IS an American and they were soley directed to him. I apologize if my flag waving was offensive to anyone from the UK, Canada or anywhere else.

On a side note; I have a good friend in the UK who did sign up with Lime and has already cancelled for lack of support and consult. He is now waiting for Avid to move into the UK.

I post the following based on the opinions of a potential Lime user from the UK

I was on the verge tonight of joing but I didn't. Why? Because I will be dammed if I pay the same as my american cousins and get half the amount of texts (2,500 for the basic package instead of 5,000) and if I go over it's 3.8c a text and not 1.9c

Am I being ripped off here in the UK or is there a good reason why it's so much more?
Has anyone found cheaper/more credits elsewhere?

Thanks in advance :-)

If you have seen the thread, you already know that I had done extensive research of the many companies out there offering "TEXT MESSAGING SERVICES" and that I had narrowed it down to between "LIME" & "AVID."

Well, after reading others stories and doing even more research, I finally decided to go with LIME. I just felt like LIME was the best fit for me and what I was looking for in a provider for what I'm wanting to provide to my customers.

I feel like they are the type of company that will continue to upgrade the features they offer and unlike some other companies out there, they do not compete with you.

I will keep everyone updated on my feelings about this decision. I will give regular and honest reviews on what I think about the company, the service, the support and the tools.

I also encourage others to give their reviews on here as well.

I have been working on an easy to use sales/promotion offer for a few months now and was waiting on the right company to partner up with. Hopefully, Lime turns out to be that company.

As ALWAYS, wishing EVERYONE here GREAT SUCCESS!!!

Best Regards,
Scott
Hi Scott,

Hope you're doing great. I've read this full thread as well as your previous thread " Avid Mobile or Lime Cellular?" which was incredibly informative and helpful, thanks! I was wondering if you could provide us an update at this point on how your overall experience has been with Lime since you've had a while to work with it since you selected Lime. Thanks!

I'm not trying to be cryptic or play games. I had a situation with the companies in question that is not flattering. I feel it's unprofessional to throw that kind of info around without some qualifiers. If someone is serious enough to take the time to PM me I'd be happy to relate it.

I chose AVID:
We are new to this business. I did what I thought was good research out there on possible companies to work with. I liked AVID's pricing. We went with one step up from the basic plan which gives a ton of text credits, training, Mobile Web etc.. I don't need to rehash all they do.. contact em they will give you all the details you want.

This isn't my main business, I do credit card processing for merchants but wanted to offer SMS Text marketing as a value add. So as I immerse into this world I am amazed.. I find myself so excited to offer this service I have suspended my marketing efforts in cc biz to focus on this full time. Once a relationship is established with a merchant I will then mention the cc processing side.

Not having a lot of expectations in this SMS Text world, and having only recently started into this mobile business we were surprised and thrilled to see AVID's just released Real Estate Agent's app. It is awesome. I got a realtor I know to text the keyword to the short code and she said "this is cool"... "we need to talk".. I am doing a whole focus on Real Estate Agents.. I will let you know how it goes- New to this forum, looking forward to getting to know folks here.
